Organised gamers are generally speaking a right-wing movement. See: how gamergate turned out. Those guys are all MAGA now.

This is why I "play video games" but would not call myself a "gamer".

[-] jerkface@lemmy.ca 6 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

How is this weird? Yes, it's unfortunate, but it is a reflection on society, not on gamers. Individual gamers have completely random opinions on everything except gaming. Gamer's opinion on dirty companies and genocide are no different than the general publics, which, what the fuck have THEY done about assault and murder?

Trade gamers for red-heads and make the final panel about sun block, it still works.

[-] epicstove@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 hours ago

Well, games are all individual people with their own views and opinions. The one thing in common is gaming.

I'm sure plenty of gamers hate Microsoft for plenty of reasons including that, but in those cases their not gamers, they're pro-Palestinians. Just ones that also happen to like games but that isn't relevant to that discussion.

[-] anyhow2503@lemmy.world 12 points 12 hours ago

Most gamers don't specifically follow gaming news or keep up with all the latest scandals (of which there are too many to keep up with in any case), but they will notice if the nostalgia project they've been looking forward to is suddenly gone.

[-] uberstar@lemmy.ml 5 points 11 hours ago

Gamers will unite to thwart cheaters and staunchly have their demands for balance changes met but will turn the other cheek on racism, sexism, ableism, etc.. with the reasoning being "cuz muh free speech", both in-game and on social media platforms.

Genuinely cannot fathom playing AAA games

[-] ILoveUnions@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

Paying sixty dollars for mid game with as many modern indies exist? I don't get it

[-] Microplasticbrain@lemm.ee 26 points 20 hours ago

Dawg Microsoft has already been on a boycott from me for their unrepairable surface pro 3, I cant double boycott

[-] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago

Haha, you boycott peaked too soon

[-] Microplasticbrain@lemm.ee 6 points 18 hours ago

Yea I guess I blew my cott on that one

[-] RedSnt@feddit.dk 1 points 13 hours ago

Have you tried mancotting?

[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 2 points 13 hours ago

They should serve manicotti at the mancott

[-] bad_news@lemmy.billiam.net 3 points 19 hours ago

In a way, maybe having the IDF use their shitty products as an act of Palestinian solidarity? 5D CHESS!

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 34 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

piracy makes for dead easy boycotts. just saying.

[-] uberstar@lemmy.ml 5 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

whatever you do, do not, BY ANY MEANS, think about visiting this site that, among other things, links to full, pirated, de-DRM'd games that are better experienced in their entirety without an intermediary platform like Steam, Epic Games, etc... DO NOT GIVE THE THOUGHT EVEN A MICROSECOND! This would totally be morally equivalent to "the bad stuff" that good wholesome companies that do mere totally excusable "oopsies".

Never heard about ubi sexual abuse and was about to say did you mean blizzard, but wow it indeed happened there too.

[-] MoonMelon@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 hours ago

Seems like basically every company is covering up crimes that happen on their properties, and lots of those are sex crimes. I have no data, just anecdotally it's been almost every company I've ever worked for and the experience of virtually every woman I've known well enough to talk candidly about this shit. I'm not talking about "nice ass" comments either, I'm talking like, "blow me or you're fired" type shit.

Not an excuse for Ubisoft, but it's kind of like how Covid is now endemic so we're like "oh well". This disease is so common we apparently don't give a shit. There was a brief window of hope with "Me Too" but then reactionaries shut that down.

[-] scathliath@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 13 hours ago

Same, that it didn't even scratch the headlines as much is a fucking shame.

I can't unsee the source as BDSM Movement.

[-] RedSnt@feddit.dk 3 points 13 hours ago

While I haven't played Minecraft for a year, that's probably the hardest to give up.

[-] stray@pawb.social 5 points 12 hours ago

While I don't mean to argue against boycotting, I really don't think it matters in either a practical sense or as a gesture of solidarity whether you play a game you already paid for, especially if it's in single-player. Also remember that corporations own practically everything, and even this banana is probably produced with slave labor or at least terrible conditions. If a thing is easy to give up, great, but you shouldn't make your life less pleasant meaninglessly. Direct your effort and will towards effective actions rather than thoughts and prayers.

[-] RandomVideos@programming.dev 1 points 10 hours ago

Minecraft tracks data. If you want to play it, i recommend installing a mod that stops it

[-] stray@pawb.social 2 points 7 hours ago

If you mean the telemetry info about what kind of system it's running on, mod use, etc, I don't mind that. If you mean something else, I'm interested in knowing more about it.

[-] RandomVideos@programming.dev 1 points 6 hours ago

Thats the info i was referring to

[-] Zoop@beehaw.org 4 points 20 hours ago

I hadn't heard about this or the Ubisoft thing (but I'm not at all surprised, ugh.) Thank you for spreading the information!

my pleasure! 🧡

part of the reason i made this meme was to spread awareness, im glad i could reach at least one person.

[-] slacktoid@lemmy.ml 10 points 19 hours ago

AAA-Gamers are fairly pro status quo, otherwise they wouldn't be freaking out about pronouns

[-] shiroininja@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

I don’t really care about any of it anymore. It’s not like I ever pay more than $15 for any Game anymore, And after steams cut and taxes and everything, they barely are getting anything From me. And after I gave my switch to my ex-wife who demanded it, I just started Downloading Nintendo games because I won’t ever buy a Console twice. besides 90% of anything you buy is from a evil corrupt corporation or They are owned by a corrupt evil umbrella corporation like 90% of food brands are owned by five parent companies like there’s no point In Boycotting because when you buy their competitor, you’re just buying from the parent company anyways.

[-] hamid@vegantheoryclub.org 6 points 21 hours ago

Not being interested in video games has saved me so much agita in my life LOL

[-] LiamTheBox@lemmy.ml 1 points 17 hours ago

Bill gates does what now? Never heard of it, never bought an Xbox.

[-] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 17 hours ago

idk if you’re joking, but bill gates hasn’t been involved with MS for a while now

this is not about him, it’s about microsoft developing AI and cloud services for the israeli military

[-] LiamTheBox@lemmy.ml 2 points 13 hours ago

Bummer, and then people say to pull the plug

[-] GoodLuckToFriends@lemmy.today 0 points 13 hours ago

I'm mildly amused that you think there are any gamers on lemmy that still use microsoft. Isn't it mandatory to use linux to access the fediverse? ;)

For ubisoft, I have no idea. Everything I seem to read around here indicates most are dissatisfied ever since one of the assassin's creed games a decade ago or something.

[-] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 8 hours ago

i mean, i’ve seen maaaaany posts about oblivion remastered (made by bethesda, who is owned by microsoft)

as for ubisoft, yea, no one likes them, but ive seen very few people say they don’t like them because of the sexual assault cover up. for most people, it’s because of their bad games or their delisting of games (which are very good reasons to hate them, of course, but i still wish people talked more about the SA, it’s still a rampant problem…)
