The Poor People's Campaign was a march on Washington D.C. to gain economic justice for poor people in the United States that began on this day in 1968, just one month after the assassination of one of its key organizers, MLK Jr.

The protest was also organized by Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and carried out under the leadership of Ralph Abernathy in the wake of King's assassination.

After presenting an organized set of demands to Congress and executive agencies, participants set up a 3,000-person protest camp on the Washington Mall, where they stayed for six weeks in the spring of 1968.

Among those demands was a proposal for an "economic bill of rights" that included a commitment to full employment, a guaranteed annual income measure, and more low-income housing for poor Americans of all races.

"I think it is necessary for us to realize that we have moved from the era of civil rights to the era of human rights…

When we see that there must be a radical redistribution of economic and political power, then we see that for the last twelve years we have been in a reform movement…

That after Selma and the Voting Rights Bill, we moved into a new era, which must be an era of revolution…"

-MLK Jr., in a 1967 planning meeting

I wish people would stop thinking I'm flirting with them when I'm just being polite

How do people feel about Constantine? Specifically the 2005 film starring Keanu Reeves, that is. My understanding is that critics at the time didn't like it, but I'm a big fan. I will admit I've never read the comics, nor have I ever watched the Constantine TV show or The Sandman. But on its own merits I think it's a very strong performance from Reeves - or at the very least it's a role well-suited to him - and an underrated gem of his career.

Going to a space run by leftists and seeing an "anti-tankie aktion" sticker on the wall clark-kent-stare

Bit idea: Making the removal of PFAS and PFOA forever chemicals woke, and convincing conspiracy brained people to drink airport firefighting foam as a cure-all. The deep state doesn't want you to know that replacing all your fatty tissues with organic flourine is the one true way to become the anti-woke warrior.

Do not actually do this.

Sabrina Carpenter’s aunt is apparently Nancy Cartwright. Does this mean Sabrina is also a member of Scientology?

many criticisms are made against Friends, and most of them are valid, but in my opinion the greatest sin by far was acting like paleontology isn't interesting as fuck

Need him back on screen post-Empire where he just goes "back in the good old days" yapping to passengers. Most realistic/grounded character in Star War.

I hope the Superman movie randomly have real world geopolitics like that time Superman mentions kashmir which got people mad.

I love how the Penguin implies Taiwan has sucessfuly reunited itself into China.

In the new Superman trailer, Superman is getting interviewed and the interviewer is like "sure you stopped a war, but did you ever stop and think that it was illegal for you to enter that country" smuglord

Feels like it's critiquing libs but from the fascist point of view. I haven't watched any new superhero slop since the batman and looks like that shall continue

[-] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 7 points 7 hours ago

I think its just lois lane giving him a hard time so he would be ready for the US gov people angry at him. I feel the trailer was showing him on the right but the world is against him

But i could be wrong, it wouldnt be the first time superman gets used to push reactionary propaganda

It is scary when I don't see my friends for so long, they just stop existing and nonexistence is something my brain can't wrap itself around. Hope they are ok in the void

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 8 points 9 hours ago

Companies are actually making more money off piracy than ever before cause you used to be able to rent a shitload of movies, rip em and upload them. Now people need to buy them

[-] Wmill@hexbear.net 8 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Having my cake and eating it too, what a dumbfuck saying what else am I gonna do with this cake?

[-] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 9 points 10 hours ago

they were gonna do 5 seasons of Andor but they "realized the time commitment of filming each season" which translated means: Diego Luna didn't wanna work on this shit for much longer

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 7 points 9 hours ago

That is quite the commitment. I think if this season had been split into 2 seasons then a lot of the issues I had would resolve themselves just by having more breathing room. Wouldn't fix the last scene though. Bix deserved better.

[-] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 4 points 9 hours ago

I think the moral of the story is that it's happening everywhere, and we all deserve better

[-] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 4 points 9 hours ago

Sorry i only just watched episode 3 so i don't have more lines to meme with guys. Im unemployed for 3 months tomorrow though so I'm going to make my partner watch it with me godh dang it

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 2 points 9 hours ago
[-] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 5 points 9 hours ago

Bix deserving better and general fascism stuff idk I have only seen the third episode and brasso was all "it's happening everywhere" which i found to be particularly impactful and like, everyone everywhere deserves better

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Oh, okay. You'll see what I mean later. I meant the final scene of the season/series

[-] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 4 points 9 hours ago

I think i already read what happens but idk my hope is i smoke enough weed and my partner makes me wait long enough to watch it i'll forget lol

Aight dawg have a good night im gonna go to bed and then serve a bunch of cold food i already made and spend all day cleaning a kitchen while hating every aspect of that (but it might not be so bad because we did a lot already) before being unemployed for 3 months, yee haw!!!!

[-] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 6 points 10 hours ago

andor question, episode 3, minor spoilers

spoileri guess that petty bourgeois farmer guy did betray brasso? like, idk, brasso just kinda like comes at them and then gets caught, and then starts going all DON'T PRETEND YOU DIDN'T TELL THEM, BETRAYER at the farmer guy, and then later there's a short like, look and a nod between them? I guess like him being like "yeah i did" or something? because I thought it was like some signal to do something but then nothing was ever done

[-] VHS@hexbear.net 3 points 4 hours ago

I think Brasso acted as if he was ratted out so that the imperials wouldn't think the farmer guy was a rebel sympathizer

[-] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 1 points 1 hour ago

That was my initial thinking but like it doesn't make sense? because if the farmer DIDN'T narc, he's telling the imperials that he knew they were illegal and if he didn't mention it already then he was hiding it

I'm finishing Jakarta Method by Vincent Bevins. I don't know how to feel about the world. I've read enough to know about all of these things in bits and pieces. Listened to Blow Back. But I continue to feel likeAmerican collapse is the only deserved and moral outcome.

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 9 hours ago

My most lent out to libs books I have are that, Shock Doctrine and Killing Hope.

can someone give me a quick rundown on the revcoms

what's their deal

[-] Bolshechick@hexbear.net 4 points 9 hours ago

Formerly Maoist, were a member of the RIM (Revolutionary Internationalist Movement), a now defunct Maoist international. For some reason they had a very large ideological influence in this org, despite the fact that most of the other parties were actually engaged in waging people's war (like the TKP-ML, the Shining Path, Indian Maoists, Nepalese Maoists, etc.), and the revcoms obviously weren't.

Then chairman Bob Avakian came up with "the New Synthesis", and they are now just a weird cult dedicated to him; apparently the greatest Marxist theorist ever.
