They are mostly gaelic names pressed through a bazillion years of gallicization and Anglicization, of course people lose their OG context and miss the meaning. A lot of other cultures still have names where the og meaning is still evident.

I have heard that my entire life. Looked through books of names, and struggling to recal a time where any etymology was provided to suggest that the author didn't just make shit up.

Taking names (with meanings) from other languages and then calling them "bad scrabble hands" as if you're not just mimicking every Brit who is angry that our languages use their Latin letters in ways they don't like.
