The last paragraph really drives home that this person just led a fucked up and depressing existence, and then, on top of that, a close friend dying/being murdered/suiciding in a clearly confusing arrangement.

I dunno. I don't feel overly angry at this person, what they've done is utterly and truly awful and should never have been done. But I can see how an awful life like that could totally warp your view of the world. I'm extremely mad at our shit society that frequently lets people get to this point without helping them or really giving a shit.

yeah i'm not gonna go bomb a fertility clinic but my life has been predominately suffering and it would be a crime to force someone to live many of our lives.

This is what a few hundred years of capitalism does to people

Is anyone else increaseingly worried they'll get taken out by one of these maniacs. America is so unsafe, but everyone acts like its nbd. I hate it. I dream of the day I'm in China and won't have to worry im gonna get blown up, or shot randomly while grocery shopping or something.

By the most alienated idiot with the most stupid "ideology"

You know there's something seriously wrong with capitalist society when a ”philosophy” as nonsensical as efilism is developed.

soypoint-1 Whoa, it's like…life spelled backwards, that means we should kill everyone. That's so deep.

I also think this post needs CWs for ableism and self-harm, the last paragraph on that site is so sad desolate

[-] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 30 points 14 hours ago

Dang, I had thoughts like this for a while. Thank the heavens I found some actual sense of purpose in life.

All a promortalist is saying is let's make it happen sooner rather than later (and preferably peaceful rather than some disease or accident), to prevent your future suffering, and, more importantly, the suffering your existence will cause to all the other sentient beings.

Wow they killed one person whoo. Suffering is over for all sentient beings! lets go matt

It's not like you can end all suffering, delete the universe by snapping your fingers.

Seriously, wouldn't real anti-natalist "praxis" be like dumping a bunch of birth control in the water supply?

no they just think life is bad, there's inherent value in the universe. somehow.

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 22 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

AFAIK the reasoning is

Suffering = bad
Joy = good
No suffering = good
No joy = neutral

Therefore, life, which contains suffering and joy, is neutral. But no life, which would avoid suffering entirely, would be good. The inherent value in the universe is the avoidance of suffering.

In the download directory, you should be able to find an mp3 file where I explain, but basically, I'm a promortalist. Efil blaise explains what this is quite well.

We had a thread here about Efilists subreddit just a week or two ago and this happens. Someone took the Inmendham jrpg villian arc seriously agony-deep

Smelled like fed shit then and it smells like fed shit now. The right has been itching for someone like this to come along and here they are. They also left an audio diary and a webzone explaining their motives in a way that fits exactly with the right's grudges against environmentalists.

Inmendham

oh holy fuck this unlocked some memories

  • (specifically of him being a much-derided figure in the "new atheist" youtube circles back when I watched that shit in the late 2000's)
[-] RaisedFistJoker@hexbear.net 40 points 16 hours ago

real life person with the philosophy of an over the top supervillain

[-] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 30 points 14 hours ago

The Efilists' ideology came about within a year of Gurren Lagann being distributed in the US. I have no evidence of this but I swear it looks like the guy behind Efilism literally just saw the fucking Anti-Spirals and thought "neat, this is definitely a coherent and reasonable ideology, DNA really is the ultimate evil that will destroy everything, we should be the antithesis of all life and progress". Efilism is literally a cartoon villain ideology, and not just in the abstract it's literally one specific, somewhat famous cartoon villain ideology.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 14 points 13 hours ago

How is that the TTGL ideology that caught on irl? Is it that the type of guy who unironically lifts his ideology from anime just definitionally isn't cool enough to be Kamina?

[-] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 25 points 14 hours ago

That's the most reddit thing I've ever seen

[-] XiaCobolt@hexbear.net 20 points 14 hours ago

Huh I genuinely thought it was an anti-abortion thing (IVF and abortion are obs-gynae and some doctors do both).

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 23 points 15 hours ago

i wouldn't say anti-natalism was the primary ideology at work here.
