Alternatively, you could stop being so poor. Simple as that!

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

you can buy your 5th house to rent and draw from your multimillionaire trust fund.

[-] chaosCruiser@futurology.today 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You can also borrow 100 million, build some commercial properties, and lease them to tenants.

Alternatively, you should try being a velociraptor. I hear they don't get sick nearly as often as humans.

[-] chaosCruiser@futurology.today 2 points 1 week ago

When was the last time you saw a velociraptor coughing from pneumonia? Never. How about a velociraptor with depression, anxiety, cancer or heart disease? Yeah, never seen any of that either. Those guys just handle it like it's nothing.

We have never not needed these.

We just forgot that they are required.

I'm sure the French could give us some pointers though.

[-] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

We should just start building guillotines and placing them in town squares. Just as, like, a message.

[-] turtlesareneat@discuss.online 2 points 1 week ago

I got banned from the r-place for saying something like this.

Carry on.

No man, Yesterday I only didn't eat 3 cakes and I was able to run a 12 mile drive to work... In my car! The other weekend I didn't eat a wedding cake and that cured my diabetes that In didn't even have!

[-] xorollo@leminal.space 7 points 1 week ago

Let them eat less cake!

[-] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

This is the whole crux of MAHA. Make health a completely personal choice by denying any external causes of disease and then when you completely cut any possible health assistance then that's fine because health is a completely personal choice and responsibility and people should just try harder to he healthy

[-] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Didn't forget the part where you get to blame people for their own illness! Being sick now becomes a moral failing because you didn't do enough to stay healthy.

[-] Revan343@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Being sick now becomes a moral failing because you didn't do enough to stay healthy

But if you do try to stay healthy (e.g. wearing a mask and social distancing during cold and flu season) you're a $insult_of_the_week

[-] Aspharr@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

It's "prosperity gospel" but for health instead of wealth. I'm healthy because I'm a good person and you're not because you're a bad person. It's literally the same talking points too. Point at the minority of folks in a demographic who actually make genuinely bad decisions and apply that to the group as a whole.

Mary Antionette: "Let them eat cake."

"Dr." Oz: "Let them stop eating cake."

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 6 points 1 week ago

Funnily enough, just had an exchange with someone here about doctors needing to always be empathetic towards their patients so they can't say "get fucked, fascists" and such.

Dr. Oz is a still practicing (to maintain his license) cardiovascular surgeon.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago

he needs to upkeep the image that he can sell snakesoil to the plebs. its the same thing "llmd" for the fake disease "chronic lyme" sells pseduoscience to patients, they are even more dangerous oz.

Gall stones? Cancer? Parkinsons? Broke your arm? In a car crash?

Eat less cake, peasants.

I know many red states have been trying to defend Republican Medicaid cuts by blaming residents for being unhealthy.

"We tried to give you healthcare, but it wasn't sustainable bc y'all just don't know how to take care of yourselves."

The cost being unsustainable is pure bullshit anyway, but even if that were true, the idea that when looking at the cost of covering healthcare in the United States, their go to argument for why it's so expensive, places the blame on the patients for needing healthcare.

As if nobody has ever pointed out side by side bills comparing the cost of the same hospital stays in the U.S. vs just about any other county.

Peak authoritarian government acting like a narcissistic parent and gaslighting America into believing the reason they can't take care of their kids is bc the kids are at fault. Not bc they just suck as a parent and shouldn't have kids if they can't take care of them.

[-] Aspharr@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

And the rich part is that if they wanted to go down the route of "healthcare is expensive because America is overall unhealthy" that's "fine". As the folks in charge do something about it?

Invest in better education on the importance of proper diet and exercise. Invest in providing cheaper and more readily available whole foods. Subsidized or provide classes that teach people how to actually cook. Do the things that would actually help "make America healthy again" instead of worrying about fucking food dyes and weather or not a trans person is getting healthcare.

If they did that while spouting that kinda bullshit at least they would be intellectually consistent, but they don't and that's how you know they're full of shit.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

Modern "Let them eat cake."

These people are so fucking out of touch.

[-] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 4 points 1 week ago

This is somehow worse, the "let them eat cake" was said from a very out of touch person who just did not understand. While this is comming from someone who willingly is going out of their way to blame the peasants for the actions that they are doing to those same peasants.

[-] telllos@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

He is completely wrong, while being right too. Americans could benefit from a better diet.

Maybe the American government could provide proper health care and not support junk food industry.

[-] abbiistabbii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

He is completely wrong, while being right too. Americans could benefit from a better diet.

Yes. Let's actually put some reigns on the food industry, sugar in bread is not normal. Also walkable places that have public transport, but the Auto and Food industries have the Government of America by the short and curlies.

[-] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

the Auto and Food industries have the Government of America by the ~~short and curlies.~~ wallet.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Americans could benefit from a better diet.

Sadly, yes, living a healthier lifestyle is going to be a person's best option in the wake of health care being even more enshittified.

Hard to do in a nation where there are food deserts, gym memberships a luxury, and the nearest health care provider is upwards of 50 miles away.

This, to me, stinks of the same garbage people are fed about recycling, when we all know that it's the billionaire class and their institutional, astronomical waste and energy usage that is the real problem, not individuals tossing out the dozen soda cans they drink in a week.

[-] Fleur_@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago

In my opinion this is why unhealthy foods should be taxed to all fuck and back. Don't want to spend money on healthcare, tax what's making people unhealthy. Then with that extra dosh maybe you could fund healthcare a little more. Unfortunately there is no population on earth who'd accept their luxuries being taxed like that.

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

yeah taking out the grain subsidies and moving them over to fruit and veg based on lowness of sugar content and highness of fiber and nutrient content. That might be something to do.

[-] Aspharr@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I get what you're going for here, but the lowness of sugar isn't really all that important if we're talking whole fruits.

Mangos for example would be considered high in sugar, but I would argue they shouldn't be discriminated against in comparison to something like an apple. Mangos are also quite filling compared to something like a candy or juice of similar calorie content just like other lower calories fruits such as apples or strawberries.

Potatoes and other starchy vegetables could potentially get a bad wrap too for similar reasons.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I can say confidently there isn't a person in this administration I would eat. with the rampant drug use and sex trafficking I don't even want to look at their diseased riddled bodies.

I think he'd get along great with my old dentist. The guy gave me a bad crown, then when I complained about it, it was "eat less chocolate" and "you just need to floss more."
