Also cookie warnings that put the 'only necessary cookies' button behind multiple extra clicks, or make it really small and unhighlighed

I get these a lot. Unsubscribe link will be a tracking link that's blocked by multiple layers of adblocking. Drives me nuts

That or 'enter your email to unsubscribe' Fuuuuuuck you

The CEO gets an unwanted mail in return a-guy

Worst unsubscribe page I recently found had a big, colored button that said "update my preferences" that actually... resubscribes you. Because it already quietly unsubscribed you as soon as you clicked the link in the email.

And they also say on the page to allow a few business days for it to take effect so you will assume it's delayed and forget about it.

gui-better

i'm enraged just reading this. this is enraging. this calls for the nine familial exterminations, but with nine levels of corporate responsibility instead. board of directors, CEO, CTO, VP of sysadmin shit (idk what the real title for this would be), etc., all publically shamed and cut into little pieces on national TV, all the way down until we get to some wageworker who's struggling to pay rent, whom we immediately promote to CEO

[-] Edie@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Sys admin shit is probably Chief information officer

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago

This shit isn't even beneficial. There is no benefit to having a person who doesn't want to buy your shit on your mailing list, they're just increasing your mailing costs.

[-] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

it is when you have a marketing department, gross enough, and then they operate on KPIs of "user acquisition". Big number more gooder!

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

A shit marketing department operates like this. The good ones fundamentally understand that a big mailing list of useless mailouts is just a cost. You want to market to people that will actually want your shit, it's common sense.

Like trying to sell bras to men. Just pointless. You genuinely want many people to unsubscribe because it strengthens your remaining list.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You could say there is a contradiction in marketing between having a large list and having a useful list. Every marketing department wants a list that is both large and useful, but the larger the list is the less useful because it's like trying to sell bras to men. They can't have both without weakening the list overall, but they need both to grow.

Every marketing team trends towards decay as the contradictions rise, until eventually they all become worthless spam.

[-] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

I'm gonna assume most companies aren't ran by people who'd take this sort of holistic view of things and instead if KPI go down the head of marketing gets fired or whatever. I mean fuck marketing departments but I assume even they're like "incessantly mailing bra ads to people who try to unsubscribe probably doesn't win us any favours with anyone"

[-] moss_icon@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago

This surely has to be illegal, what the fuck.

[-] companero@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

Technically they did explain it on the page, but it was clearly intended to trick people

[-] Sickos@hexbear.net 30 points 2 days ago

if a company ~~sends me an unwanted email and the unsubscribe button links to an error page~~ the CEO should be executed immediately

[-] john_brown@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago

I will never forgive Bernard "Zionism" Sanders for selling my email to the DNC, and I will never stop flagging every email from a Democrat as spam.

[-] roux@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago

Email spam should be opt-in. No fucking exceptions. If you go against this idea, you get the wall during the revolution.

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago

All spam should be. It's wild that the fucking physical mail system carries like 80% spam mail

[-] roux@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

Physical junk mail is a whole ass rant I don't have the energy for today. I'm so jaded that now when the mail person drops it in my mail slot I just say "Thanks, I'll throw it away for you."

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

in our broken ass-country the junk mail is a significant portion of funding for the post office

[-] KoboldKomrade@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

Even wilder, there are ways to stop it. But you have to PAY for them. Or else call 200 companies and hope it stops. Evil system, hope marketers go to hell before they die.

Im honestly surprised it hasn't been privatized away like "have your mail sent to us, then our licensed mail sorting experts will throw out all the junk" or some shit

[-] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It’s not ridiculous to say that!

[-] pumpchilienthusiast@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago
[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

why wait for an email? we can just luigi-dance them at any time and it would be justified.

[-] Hexamerous@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

They should be sentence to 10 years of manually sorting spam emails on the server farm.

[-] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

After the revolution, all server farms will be free range and organic, can't wait. Many of our servers have never even seen the sky.

You can summarily block them
