If the levels are going to be 1:1 the ps2 game then it's going to be really short compared to The Phantom Pain which most MGS fans are now accustomed to being the game's standard.
It's difficult to be excited about this one in light of those shit ports of MGS1-3 they just put out
Don't know why I was surprised by how shoddy of a job they are. Guess I assumed Konami would be putting their best foot forward after almost a decade of them being a laughing stock
Pausing taking 10 seconds was wild.
I don't care about ever increasing quantities of pixels and polygons for its own sake. The more they chase shallow verisimilitude, the more they call attention to its uncanniness.
I care about artistic cohesiveness, readability, performance, and playability.
That's why some of the most well received games outside the AAA industry are exactly that. A simple week engineered mechanic or two with everything else built in service if that primary game loop.
Games like Rainworld, Hotline Miami, Witness, Antichamber, Superhot, etc.
The old MGS games were built like that too, everything was pretty well telegraphed through visual design in service of the primary stealth game loop.
I hope it's good. I only had an Xbox as a kid, so I never got to play MGS3 (and I was too into Chaos Theory to play other stealth games anyway.) But Splinter Cell hasn't had a new entry in a decade, and MGS3 is a classic that I definitely feel I missed out on. Lacking any other games to scratch the modern stealth itch, I really, really hope this doesn't turn out to be shit.

You could probably emulate the older MGS games. They still hold up pretty well.

Modern by recent-ish releases? Have you played the newer Hitman game (I think it's renamed World of Assassination now), the mimimi isometric stealth games (eg Shadow Tactics), or the Dishonored games?

True, though while I've got nothing against playing games with dated graphics, that control scheme is something else entirely lol. Granted, I've never played any of the MGS games on PC, and my sole experience with the series beyond Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain has been the MGS2 Xbox port.

I'll confess that I haven't, but I'm probably missing out there too. I've always been slow to try new games (thanks ADHD/ASD/whatever on Earth is up with me), but I've been better about that these last few years. Might should give some of these a try. Appreciate the recommendations in any case!
Edit: I should specify that by "modern" I mean games set in the modern day with modern tech (sorry Thief, I'll try you eventually.) But I suppose I also mean it in the sense of recent-ish releases
That Hitman game is probably one of the biggest and best stealth games in a long time. Going to double down on my recommendation for that - especially if you can snag it on a good sale.
Well how can I say no to that? Thanks man, I'll quit sleeping on it. Definitely gonna catch it on sale if I can though, I've been out of work for a minute lol
i would recommend Hitman too. I picked it up last year and now have around 300-400 hours in it. The roguelike mode Freelancer is really fun too once you level up several times and get a silenced weapon. It really tests your map knowledge and game mechanics.
