Now all those American players can go back to their Canadian teams and continue to suck in the playoffs and never win a cup.

Something from this podcast stood out to me.

He talks about how Austin Matthews is a great guy because he spends a lot of time at Sick Kids playing with the children. Does Austin sucking up to known big league pedofile Trump cast that in a different type of light? Just speculating.

[-] OccamsRazer@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

The single most important purity test is Trump. Abraham Lincoln, Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., Mr Rogers, and uhh Eleanor Roosevelt would instantly become terrible people if they shook Trump's hand, regardless of anything else they did or accomplished in life. That's how it works. It's like King Midas kinda.

Ghandi had his own issues with sleeping with young girls.

Doesn't surprise me tbh. I'm pretty cynical about powerful people in general. I think if we knew everything there are very few who would survive with reputations intact.

King Mierdas

[-] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I fully agree with Steve Dangle. When will a Canadian NHL team finally take the Stanley Cup?

[-] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

If Buffalo wins it, would that count?

[-] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

LOL! Man, I feel sorry for Buffalo, the Bills had numerous chances and the Sabres (in 2nd place!!!) drought continues. Are there Canadian Sabres fans watching from west bank of the Niagara River?

[-] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

Probably. I've seen some Leafs' fans declare they've jumped ship, for the rest of the season at least.

One said they feel bad for the Eastern Conference bc there won't be a "Get Out of 1st Round Free" card since the Leafs won't make the playoffs.

I’m about to say sounds silly but I say it often.

“He wants to make all of Canada a single state…wouldn’t you break it up into multiple states? With Canada as the 51 state be the new powerhouse? Like California? Because Canada is like a whole ass country”

And I know that’s not the issue. The issue is that he’d threaten war at all… but imagine the entirety as Canada as one single state. Also Venezuela is the 52 state. Iran and Greenland are combined to the 53 state because fuck it its nearly 5 o’clock”

Puerto Rico will remain not a state

[-] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Trump doesn't spend time thinking about the practicalities of something like this, because when he says "51st state" what he means is "The latest expansion of my kingly domain."

He has zero intention of letting newly subjugated Canadians vote. He doesn't even want to let Americans vote. These are the fantasies of an autocrat, not carefully thought out plans.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

He's just a spoiled rich kid in a toy store, demanding everything he sets his eyes on: "I want Greenland! I want Canada! I want everything!"

His parents were monsters, so they indulged him, and so did everybody around him for his entire life, and now he thinks that's what life is - he gets whatever he demands, because he's better than everybody else, obviously. And for some reason, those around him continue to indulge him.

What he needs, is a spanking, and a time out.

If Canada was a state, the Republicans would never win the electoral college again. There would never be another Republican president.

And the House of Representatives would be permanently blue.

And even just 2 more senators would be a massive risk for the Republicans too. If each province was a state, it would be game over in the senate as well.

California, Texas, New York, and Canada would all be blue in 2028. There are only so many Floridas and Texas is not guaranteed.

And if the Canadians in Florida and Arizona and Nevada could vote, they may not be as red anymore either.

Canada will never be a state. But it would certainly kill the US Republican Party if it did.

I don't think you are accurately accounting for the popularity of politicians who align themselves with MAGA policies in Canada

Everything is bigger in canada

[-] Aeao@lemmy.world 38 points 3 days ago

Bro I live In Texas. I just saw this in all.

Everything, and I mean everything, is bigger in Texas

Except budget, taxes, healthcare, eduction, over all happiness, morals or freedom

But we’re number one in having an Alamo.

To be clear this is satire.

Excuse me while I take a break to drink my large soda from Whataburger.

It's gonna be a while.

It better be a dr. Pepper! And that’s just to hold you over until you get to the drive thru bar. Thier specials have been pickle flavored for a while, who wants to get drunk on that?

Making it 4-5 states would hand the Dems the senate. They want another Puerto Rico with no real representation.

I wouldn't shake Trump's hand. It has been up someone's asshole, and they didn't consent.

[-] orbitz@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

It may be worth it if you had a chance to say 'how tiny' as you clasped his hand. Though representing the NHL not like they could do that, or most people in his insulated environment.

[-] bluejade@lemmy.ca 46 points 3 days ago

I feel a certain kind of way towards Canadians who are willing to take foreign money to promote separatist views that would be used to extract from them. I feel a certain kind of way towards Canadians who would work with our enemies against us and sowe pointless division between us

[-] Gathorall@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Professional sports are state sponsored to promote patriotism. Sports leagues are made to empower and legitimize people like Trump.

[-] Bullerfar@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

As a European, I disagree hard on this. Sports is mostly about community, local clubs and entertainment for the 9-5 worker. To have something that takes away the thoughts of the housing loan, ensurance bills, health, kids, job, etc.

Media outlets should not repeat “51st state”.

That doesn't really seem newsworthy. Basically, "podcaster says something".
