and the people who set this policy are able to just, like, walk down the street somehow

the most cucked population in history

[-] GarfieldYaoi@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

Agreed, it just goes to show how people claim that respecting property rights are sacrosanct, but the wealthy can pull the right strings to basically lawfully steal from people through extortion. Take the landlord who will raise rent "because I can lol" and same with that asswipe who raised drug prices because "I can do what I want", the medicine did not become more scare, the high prices are just legal stealing. Textbook lawful evil

But at what cost?????

I’m currently in a legal battle because my baby was born at a hospital without medication or before vitals were hooked up. they sent a letter saying they need proof that our reason for visiting the hospital for 2 days was a medical emergency and our OBGYN has no records of health until after the baby was born. Ultimately I think we will work it out, but It’s honestly so confusing how any of this functions in an economy

Just trying to sign up for health insurance is a Byzantine nightmare of incomprehensible alphabet soup. Like even with printouts and explanations and training seminars or whatever it is still completely opaque as to what a policy does or doesn’t cover

Wait but conservatives say that the US healthcare system is the bestest in the world?! How could this possibly be like this? shocked-pikachu

[-] principalkohoutek@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago

Why would China do this to us

[-] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Maybe a stupid question, but couldn't you just fly or have someone fly to China and buy it there in bulk at a cheaper cost for that money?

I wonder if they'll eventually restrict bringing Chinese medicine for personal use into the US because Freedom is when you die for capitalism.

[-] axont@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

I doubt customs would allow importing a bunch of loose cancer medication

[-] MemesAreTheory@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

Easy - just make sure you have a bunch of loose cigarettes in your luggage too, that way you can say "it's for personal use". Just gotta plan on getting a bunch of cancer!

[-] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

Bring Chinese cancer medication in bulk along with boxes of Cuban cigars.

[-] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

I'm going on a China run, honey, do you want anything?

[-] PurrLure@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

You could fly across the world, miss work unpaid, hire a translator, stay at a nice four star hotel, see the sights, eat at fancy restaurants, get seen by a cancer doctor, and stock up on as much medication that customs will allow with a prescription for less than a single vial dose costs.

"Yeah but.....in China...sometimes people are told what to do, so buying the ripoff is the moral thing to do. You wouldn't want to disrespect property rights would you?"

And that's wholesale, by the way. Retail could be an entire layer of fuckery - some 10-20% on top of that

Less than 30 times more

[-] BoxedFenders@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago

But at what cost?

Apparently, $8,892 (wholesale).

[-] GarfieldYaoi@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

straw-hat-pirates is always morally correct, from software to medicine. Yo ho ho!

Is it really medicine if you can afford it?

[-] nightshade@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

From the article:

However, even with the huge price mark-up in America, the Chinese cancer drugs will still be priced significantly less than similar drugs sold in the US.
