starbleck won innovation and harry putzfuck won steam goty, both are getting hammered in the reviews. clearly nobody but the trolls voted this year

[-] Alunyanners@lemmygrad.ml 54 points 10 months ago

correction, pigfarts legacy won steam DECK goty, not goty - baldurs gate ~(an~ ~actually~ ~good~ ~game)~ won that award.

[-] MorelaakIsBack@hexbear.net 31 points 10 months ago

oh good that's actually a relief

[-] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 26 points 10 months ago

Still undeserved

I can't imagine that game being any fun to play on the Steam Deck. Well ever, but especially not on the Steam Deck.

[-] DengistDonnieDarko@hexbear.net 52 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Pizza Tower lost best soundtrack? To a fucking REMAKE?? this is all nonsense, from top to bottom. Fucking RDR2 beat out Deep Rock Galactic for "labor of love", fuuuuuuck offfff

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 52 points 10 months ago

RDR2 was a a labor of love? I thought it was a labor of not letting your workers see their familys for 120 hours straight

[-] sweatersocialist@hexbear.net 24 points 10 months ago

but at rockstar, we are a family porky-happy

this is maybe the funniest possible game to win that award, of all time. never in my life have i heard so much about a game and yet the only thing i learned was that it was boring and completely unoriginal

i mean the harry potter game could have been funnier in a vacuum but that's the blood libel sim that puts millions of dollars in the pockets of big transphobia

[-] Alunyanners@lemmygrad.ml 45 points 10 months ago

bruh what

what did this pile of shit innovate?

how to make even more boring games?

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 37 points 10 months ago

Steam users gave it to Starfield as a joke

[-] Alunyanners@lemmygrad.ml 27 points 10 months ago

well there goes the integrity of these awards

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 36 points 10 months ago

Luckily game awards, or really media awards in general, have never had any integrity so we're okay.

[-] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 19 points 10 months ago

what did this pile of shit innovate?

How to make a titty mod work with a bulky realistic space suit.

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 41 points 10 months ago

Well, Starfield did one thing well

It made me reinstall The Outer Worlds, which is a better game in nearly every way that matters

[-] Esoteir@hexbear.net 44 points 10 months ago

don't forget to also try The Outer Wilds in solidarity for two space games having the same fuckin name coming out at pretty much the same time and making it almost impossible to discuss them without people confusing one for the other

it fucking slaaps

[-] GeorgeZBush@hexbear.net 20 points 10 months ago

Best space game

[-] Alunyanners@lemmygrad.ml 39 points 10 months ago

except for the part where it shoves horseshoe theory at your face

The Outer Worlds, which is a better game in nearly every way that matters

Personally, the writing in Starfield is merely bland but the Outer Worlds is actively annoying. Star field does the bare minimum to get me from quest marker A to B. The Outer Worlds does the equivalent of cracking a knock knock joke and then pausing to wait for me to applaud.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 29 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Personally, the writing in Starfield is merely bland but the Outer Worlds is actively annoying.

That's because Starfield actively tries too be as inoffensive as possible to as many groups of people as possible. It is truly distilled corporate blandness.

As a result of this it has literally nothing to say, no story, no conflict, no message, no art. It is background music to a television life insurance ad, entirely forgettable.

[-] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 18 points 10 months ago

Yeah I agree. Starfield is a peice of toast I have in the morning while groggy from sleep - bland and utterly forgettable. Outer Worlds is the slice of toast someone slathered with hot sauce as a "hilarious" April Fool's joke. I'll remember the latter, but I'd much rather eat the former again.

[-] ProfessorAdonisCnut@hexbear.net 20 points 10 months ago

It also set a bar low enough that if Star Citizen were to somehow come out in this decade it would be guaranteed a positive comparison

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 40 points 10 months ago

My favorite part of video games is when people argue over which soulless company is the most soulless

[-] SovietWaveGoddess@hexbear.net 40 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

That game was legitimately so boring that i truly felt like someone had hollowed me out inside. I once cried because i had spent 5 hours on it in one sitting and hated every second. I hate that fucking game so much it is the worst game I have ever played. That is not a hyperbole. No game, not even ones made by a 5 year old, have given me such a soul-ending sense of boredom.

This game is shit.

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 27 points 10 months ago

Would you say your bored to tears experience "innovative"?

[-] SovietWaveGoddess@hexbear.net 36 points 10 months ago

its unique ability to drain me of joy and happiness is quite innovative indeed. I have never before felt such complete loneliness, self-hatred, and mind numbing from any form of media.

Its brought to life a new frontier of CIA torture methods to be used against anyone with braincells, and has given me a new perspective on how stupidly cucked gamers are. This game was so bad that it made Cyberpunk 2077 seem like an absolute masterpiece.

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 19 points 10 months ago

That's a chefs-kiss steam review if you post it!

[-] SovietWaveGoddess@hexbear.net 18 points 10 months ago

i pirated it, so it probably won't let me post one

even though i pirated it I still feel like i was scammed

[-] BovineUniversity@hexbear.net 23 points 10 months ago

I once cried because i had spent 5 hours on it in one sitting and hated every second.

Doing shit I don't like for hours to own... myself?

[-] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 25 points 10 months ago

If you have spent a lot of money into something you tend to give it a bit more of a chance. Plus, tons of copers were saying “Starfield is amazing you just have to get past the boring beginning section”.

It was all boring

[-] SovietWaveGoddess@hexbear.net 26 points 10 months ago

it was the second thing for me. Everyone said "just wait a bit, it gets good!". It never fucking did. I'm a big space nerd. I loved every bit of the trailers. I wanted to explore space in some way so badly. I've played no man's sky and so much else but nothing can satisfy. I played because i wanted it to get good, i wanted to explore space and do so much i couldn't now, but this game doesn't give anything. I wanted it to be good, knowing it wasn't.

Also they fucking removed all mention of the soviet union, it was there in the trailer, they removed every painting of cosmonauts, and statues of soviet vessels. The only thing that remains is a small town named gagarin. It was depressing looking everywhere for even a soyuz model and seeing them replaced by copy-past apollos.

So I spent the last bit telling the CIA to fuck off and shooting every cop on mars. Only good fucking part of the game is when i murder cops.

Same story with Cyberpunk 2077 tbh

313 hours in Cyberpunk

Preem.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 30 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I can't wait for opinions on Cyberpunk to completely flip again after GTA6 releases and has a properly working sandbox. The cop system update has drastically improved it but they're still missing so much. Imagine if it had actually tried to be good instead of just pretty.

Pretty sure opinions on it will flip back and forth frequently. Everyone clearly wants to like it but it just doesn't meet the expectations.

[-] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 21 points 10 months ago

Clearly needs a sort of gang war system, and the cops are just another gang that's hovering over the other gangs. And... idk.

I think it would be a shame for the map to go to waste though, it's a pretty big high detail map (with not much to do in it).

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 21 points 10 months ago

Gang war and various obvious world interactions. Corpo citizens should have insurance with Trauma Team, their injury should result in a Trauma Team callout involving extreme violence. There should be private fire services that fight one another for fires in the city. There should be significantly more potential random interactions with world and city. Just expand the sandbox. Should Trauma Team meet cops getting in their way? What happens? Private corporations and cops? Different groups and how they interact. All of them should have different responses and different possible outcomes depending on what they randomly encounter in the world while going about their primary duties. The more of these things you add the more interesting and spicy any world things become for the player as emergent gameplay outcomes start occurring.

Add random crimes to the world too. Someone robs a civilian, what happens? How do other civilians react to it? How does the nearby gang react? How do the cops react? Trauma Team? Fire people? Etc etc etc. Different things for different crimes. Random corpo things too.

Right now they're just events at designated places in the world. It's a diorama. A very very pretty diorama waiting for you to interact with it. It doesn't live, it doesn't do its own thing.

You stand in a street in GTA or RDR and let the world go by and random shit starts happening when interactions kick off. A fender bender turns into a homicide turns into a shoot out with the police turns into ambulances showing up and so on and so forth. This shit seems trivial but it really gives life to the world and stops everything feeling like a bunch of cardboard cutouts neatly arranged into scenes.

I spent so much time configuring the perfect spaceship and the fucking automatically generated labyrinthine interiors drove me up the fucking wall. Whoever decided that we just want procedurally generated garbage needs to be put out a fucking airlock.
