“Years ago now — 15 years ago — I was in Washington doing ‘Meet the Press.’ It was a sunny Sunday and lightning struck at home on a little lake that is outside of our home — not on a lake, a big pond,” Biden said.

“And it hit a wire and came up underneath our home into the heating ducts, air conditioning ducts. And to make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my ’67 Corvette and my cat.”

Oh the one hand: "kitchen fire" makes it sound like like an unserious stovetop mishap vs a fire that happened to manifest in the kitchen after a lightning strike. Pretty disingenuous but it's NYPost so not surprised

On the other: Whinging about how you nearly lost your classic sports car in a fire to people whose lives have been at worst destroyed or at best irrevocably altered is not a good look Brandon. Not doing much to beat the "out of touch Dem" allegations

As well as lying about almost losing his wife, to a crowd that may well contain people who just lost loved ones

[-] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 38 points 1 year ago

Me explaining to a shooting survivor who lost friends that my buddy got shot in a COD match right in front of me and it's basically the same thing

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 66 points 1 year ago

i'm convinced we could be getting Trump-level gems regularly if it weren't for those little fuckin shithead aides.

In high school I had a really shitty week where all of my pets died, my adoptive father almost died, and our house burnt down

My AP bio teacher tried "comforting" me by saying "I'm buying a house right now so I know what you're going through" it was so tone deaf I couldn't even say anything

She also very unfortunately experienced 2 miscarriages that year and I get why she didn't want to share that with me but like why compare being homeless and grieving to...buying a house????

[-] SerLava@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago

She really thought the main problem with your house burning down was having to deal with a realtor lol

Not anywhere on the same level, but after I proposed to my wife, I told some people at work and all the divorced shitheads (there were a lot) were all like "haw haw haw good luck" smuglord

[-] HexbearGPT@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

And were they right? Or were they just a bunch of losers too emotionally immature to maintain a marriage? I’m guessing the latter. Fucking men.

[-] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

One is divorced and has a few DV charges, the other I later found out was a horrible, racist sex pest. There were 5 people on the sex offender registry all working at the same time at one point while I was there. There were only like 20 people in the building at any given time.

I know "good luck" usually is said in jest, but I'm having incredible luck being married to her. Best decision I, or we ever made

Regardless of the content of the article:

"as protesters demand prez leave"? C'mon NY post. Is there a headline character limit that you need to change?

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 37 points 1 year ago

They like to pretend people still read print media and need to make headlines fit.

[-] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago

Just replace contagion with conflagration and this still works

[-] stigsbandit34z@hexbear.net 34 points 1 year ago

man, Biden could've had a real good statement here if only Maui succumbed to cancer or was in a tragic car accident.

Joe, these fires have killed more than 100 people. Cool year of car though. I hear '67 cars were great

[-] LeZero@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago

The NYPost doing fact checking of the president is very ironic, very funny

[-] iie@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

lmao. As I read the headline, even though it's Biden, the abstract idea of an old man trying to console people and being told to fuck off still made me feel bad. I imagined some grandfatherly figure bereft of words, feeling helpless, just saying in a quiet voice "ok" as he shuffles away.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

Smh so much for being the griever in chief, Christmancels stay losing.

[-] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

I know! I really liked that narrative. I'm starting to suspect he wasn't making "mourning face", I think he was just nodding off.

My cat makes the same face as Joe Biden when he's falling asleep on his loaf form.

brandon comparing a tsunami to that time he filled the bath too much and water spilt over the side making the floor slippy.

[-] lemann@lemmy.one 6 points 1 year ago

Please, please don't compare a domestic incident to a natural disaster... they are both bad but someone tasked with leading a country should know it's a very short-sighted and inconsiderate comparison.

Just visit the place and provide relief aid where it's most needed 🤷‍♂️

He forgot to mention that one time he travelled to the centre of our solar system in a ship carrying a bomb that was designed to kickstart our sun's core before it died and wiped out all life.

That was warm.
