I think the issue is that none of those run up to mid thigh, lol. :)

[-] BottleOfAlkahest@lemmy.world 65 points 2 years ago

I don't think they're implying that he is wearing those, it's just a reference photo for anyone who doesn't know what spatz are.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 32 points 2 years ago

My issue was not knowing what they were in the first place.

[-] Grass@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 years ago

Yeah I had always assumed they were socks worn inside the shoes but now I have to accept that such a weird piece of clothing exists

[-] grue@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

I have to admit, I thought I knew what they were, but I thought they were part of the shoe, not a separate piece.

[-] TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee 16 points 2 years ago

Doing gods work.

Their intended practical purpose was to protect shoes and socks from mud or rain, but they also served as a feature of stylish dress in accordance with the fashions of the period.

...

Increased informality may have been the primary reason for the decline in the wearing of spats.

...

A revival of high-top shoes with cloth uppers was forecast to replace them.

The important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time.

[-] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 29 points 2 years ago

Seems about right for the joker. Don't get me wrong should still be a knife or something in the pump, but seems about right

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 10 points 2 years ago

Kind of expected a garter belt and a dagger TBH

[-] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Just like Yzma.

[-] byroon@lemmy.world 28 points 2 years ago

What a joker

[-] electric@lemmy.world 27 points 2 years ago

Took me a minute to understand. Someone should recolor the Joker with a non-pale skin color to show how it looks because in my head it looks funny this mobster looking-guy showing up making threats with women's shoes.

[-] Cipher22@lemmy.world 54 points 2 years ago

It is the Joker, that's still in character.

[-] electric@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

I know, just found Joker even funnier now.

[-] Skua@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

Pale, but like... Swedish pale, not clown makeup pale

More tanned. Outlines are a bit fucky on this one and I had to change the building behind him a bit because it was too close to the new skin colour, but I'm not doing an effort job for this

[-] electric@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Joker crazy in the streets and the sheets.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 20 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Wow, I always assumed he was wearing old timey spats or something lol

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Probably was and overthinking an animation flub isn't worth the effort. It's a quick joke and they weren't concerned that kids would freeze the frame and start questioning continuity. There's a McFarlane figure based on the Timm design that has laces where you'd think they'd be.

[-] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 years ago

They are lol, it's just a one off joke because it's ultimately a cartoon

[-] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago

If there's any character that wouldn't give a shit about gender roles, it's the Joker.

[-] Gabu@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

He's batsexual and nothing else matters

[-] gregorum@lemm.ee 13 points 2 years ago

I see a line at the ankle, and a change between white and an ultra-pale pink, but maybe that’s just me.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 years ago

I sort of see it but it could just be compression artifacts. Someone will have to do further digging.

Sample Red Green Blue
Thigh 87% 92% 96%
Calf 87% 91% 98%
Ankle 84% 87% 91%

Samples taken as the average of a 5 pixel radius circle. The ankle is a little darker than the rest, but the colour is consistent

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Impressive work. I wonder how it would stack against a high definition screengrab.

[-] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

The more you look at it, the weirder it gets. Like his legs looks way to thin for his size, or how tiny his feet are compared to his hands.

Or how gigantic that fire hydrant is

[-] WamGams@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago

The animation was originally a female character, they just put the Joker over it.

Back in those days, a lot of animations were reused, especially cartoons. Certain movements could be seen hundreds of places.

[-] moosetwin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 years ago

it also reveals that he is almost as pale as I am

[-] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I'd call myself a day walker, but technically I burn in sunlight.

[-] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Not the entire animated series.

We can only confirm he wore them in one part of one episode ... on one leg.

[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Dudes name is "the joker." He ain't fuckkn round.

[-] greenfish@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago
