What they're trying to say: LLMs are better than people sometimes

What they are actually saying: MBAs are just as pointless as you thought they were

[-] PKMKII@hexbear.net 64 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Okay, but how does ChatGPT compare when it comes to other essential MBA skills like snorting coke and sexually harassing junior analysts?

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 55 points 1 year ago

Someone tell me how to measure my innovation

It's a bean can with one of those peel off metal lids but it has two layers. The first layer reveals the second, a built in colander to strain your beans.

[-] Hexagons@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

Ok, that's actually an amazing idea. I would love cans like that! And it also seems surprisingly practical. Why don't bean cans have a layer that peels away to reveal built-in colanders?!

[-] GaveUp@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Nah that's a lot of extra cost per unit and especially waste to have a built in colander tbh

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

you could have the colander on one side and the opening on the other so you can put it under the faucet

I literally just came up with this to justify clowning on the idea of measuring an idea lol

Okay now try it against a productive member of society

MBA Students: regurgitate a series of well-established strategies for business operations, with minor permutations intended to exploit niche under-~~exploited~~served markets

Sucks. Lame. No innovation. Bad.

Chat-GPT: recycles buzzword MBA talk into weapons grade gibberish

Brilliant! Gorgeous! Revolutionary! Wonderful!

WHAT IF THING BUT ON THE BLOCKCHAIN galaxy-brain

[-] pooh@hexbear.net 42 points 1 year ago

So I trained a ChatGPT discord bot I have to be a stoner who comes up with ridiculous stoned business ideas and one of the ideas was a place where monkeys train kids to ride bikes:

Oh... yeah, dude! I totally got another one. Picture this! A service where we hire a team of monkeys to teach little kids how to ride bikes. Like, they'll be wearing little t-shirts that say "bike coaches" and they'll be so good at balancing on those bikes, the kids will be riding like pros in no time! And then, at the end of the lesson, we'll give the kids a banana and the monkeys will get one too! We'll call it "Monkey Bikes" or something like that, man. It's genius!

This is the “innovation” they speak of.

[-] charlie@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago

I used to think the idea that most reddit comments were chat bots to be ridiculous. I no longer believe so.

This is so cool, where did you get the data to train the model like a stoner lol

New bit idea: use ChatGPT to build word salad about revolutionary productivity solutions, get on Shark Tank, and show up with a one slide PowerPoint deck that just says

PAY PEOPLE FAIRLY

[-] Hohsia@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

Then a guillotine is rolled out and the rest is history 😉

[-] GenXen@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

Innovative = An elevator pitch idea using the correct ratio of current corpo-trend buzzwords that would convince clueless VCs with more funds than brains to invest in.

[-] LocalMaxima@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

a human would struggle to come up with “noise canceling headphones”

[-] charlie@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago

Am I missing something? These aren’t innovative ideas, they’re products and ideas that all already exist.

[-] charlie@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

“Grocery Helper” is literally a hook on my 40 year old swiss army knife. I use it all the time.

And it’s all shit college students would want. I should read the article more fully, lol.

[-] Uncle_Bagel@midwest.social 16 points 1 year ago

In fairness, the MBA ideas are all awful

[-] SoyViking@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

Compact printer

Truly a revolutionising idea that no mere human coup come up with without the bazinga power of AI.

[-] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago

That would be funny if MBAs try to use AI to automate away workers, but they end up automating away themselves.

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

Now ask it to cite 2 real life studies and its authors

[-] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

How is innovation measured? What are the units for innovation?

[-] LocalMaxima@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

Getting ~20 people on mechanical Turk to rate a 70 word description of a product on a scale of very unlikely to buy to very likely to buy

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The same way "utilitons" are measured by capital-R "Rationalists."

That is to say, they make shit up that fits what they want to believe.

[-] Parsani@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago

Chat bots should replace mbas in the workplace ASAP. Would save a lot of money, and somehow come up with less useless ideas

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 25 points 1 year ago

They don't even realize what this actually means lol it's amazing.

[-] Zuzak@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

I could come up with all sorts of innovative ideas. What if dogs could vote? Innovation. What about a toilet you have to put coins in to flush? Innovation. How about a vending machine with equal chances of giving you 0, 1, or 2 of the item you put in? Inno- actually, pretty sure that one exists.

[-] Hohsia@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago
[-] Zuzak@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago

Privatized toilets already exist, but my version is better because anyone can use them even if they don't have money - it only charges you to flush. This could also cut costs on water, making it environmently friendly too eco-porky

When "innovation" is quantified into a crude commodity that's supposed to come off an assembly line, of course you're going to have computer touchers going soypoint-1 about copies of copies getting churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output oncopies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on copies of copies churned out by software modeling its output on

"Good Ideas" are worthless. Good implementation, now there's something that would actually be impressive...

[-] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago

"ideas guy" is not a real thing, if you come up with an idea it's totally worthless unless you're able to implement it.

But because that's all capitalists are able to do because they don't work, they see being an idea guy as innovative as opposed to the actual collective labor power they control being innovative.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 26 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

They don't realize how much creative work happens in the process of implementation either, because like you said they don't work.

So Mr. Idea Guy has the idea for X, and now the rest of the team does all the actual intellectual labor involved in making it real.

[-] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Like Facebook. Starts out with "there should be a website that you can rate girls on" and in the process of implementation, ~~the REST architecture is born~~ GraphQL and React we're born.

Idea: Total garbage

Implementation: One of the more important things in modern web architecture (depending on how you structure your project, we used React for a while until Lemmy switched).

[-] CannotSleep420@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 year ago
[-] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Oops, my bad. They didn't invent REST in house. That's something that was pulled from the public domain. They did GraphQL and React.

Got some wires crossed there, both of those things are restful and I just got the framework they use confused with their implementation of that framework for interface and query processing.

[-] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

Who even thinks that money is made by creating products anymore? That ship has sailed years ago. Nowadays, you make money by being a middleman, you simply create nothing and instead make "Uber but for X", undercutting the prices and cannibalizing whatever industry you're trying to "disrupt" and then you offer worse services for the same price, allowing you to skim money off of every transaction while giving your "independent contractors" basically nothing.

That, or just selling vibes like Andrew Tate. Anything but actual products, especially completely redundant nonsense like what these clowns are coming up with. There is only so much shit people actually need, and that mark was passed probably 50 years ago or longer.

innovative as like what, installing a touch-screen on an egg cooker? making an app for your electric can opener?
