Makes you wonder if this is more of a "friends of the US list" and less of a screening-out questionnaire.

And people still attempt to "reclaim" totalitarianism as an idea for the left to use lmao.

There is nothing to reclaim, the term itself is a nonsense by its definition. Which was also afaik changed multiple times to be more and more specific because its one single reason to exist is to push equation between nazism and communism. Older versions were at least funny because after some pondering things that fulfilled the term the most were capitalism and at least some religions.

"*If you were involved with the CIA at that time, it doesn't count."

Nowadays, because the Cold War against Communists is gone, likely they're going to put up something to the lines of

"If me and your country were to fight, would you support us?" amerikkka-clap

Foreign communists, and others whose potential visits to the U.S. were considered to be not in the best interest of the United States, were prohibited entry into the country. The Subversive Activities Control Act of 1950 barred from entry into the U.S. all those who advocated ‘the economic, international and governmental doctrines of world communism or […] of any other form of totalitarianism’.

Past or present membership in the Communist Party was deemed sufficient to prohibit entry. Moreover, for purposes of this Act past membership in Nazi or fascist parties were not considered to be included under the definition of ‘totalitarian’.

The weird choice to use "son or daughter" instead of "child" means enbies can confidently answer "no" to those questions

[-] Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.ml 20 points 1 year ago

My wife is doing this green card stuff, I’m her sponsor, and three of the questions because she’s from China are explicitly about the CPC and their youth outreach arms.

[-] peeonyou@hexbear.net 2 points 11 months ago

goddamn.. its insane

[-] SoyViking@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

I am trying to imagine the kind of person who would actually answer yes to any of these questions.

"Yes, now you ask I'm actually coming to do money laundering, drugs and terrorism. Thank you for asking"
