Same people that think Russia started the refugee crisis so Europeans could be racist and vote for the far-right.

[-] Maturin@hexbear.net 2 points 1 hour ago

The Russians shit my pants!

[-] TechnoUnionTypeBeat@hexbear.net 28 points 5 hours ago

This is unfortunately not a parody. I know a significant amount of people who truly, deeply believe this. They truly believe that Russia is simultaneously the puppetmaster behind all the world's evil and suffering and yet so incompetent as to be a failing state and laughing stock

Plenty of people I know personally believe Russia actually ordered the attacks on Israel specifically to distract the US and redirect weaponry from Ukraine to Israel

Who North Korea probably still thinks is a world super-power

This is just shitty world-building. Even if you believe North Korea is deeply weird prison country where people eat rats that eat people and push trains, the leadership knows what's going on in the world.

[-] Lussy@hexbear.net 19 points 5 hours ago

Any veil of intelligence this guy tried presenting went out the window with that comment.

I remember as a kid when Saddam Hussein was bad, one of the propaganda things about him was in private he'd wear a cowboy hat and watch US movies. Like that's how they need to Portray Kim Jong-Un. Slipping out of his leader's uniform to put on baggy blue jeans and fire up MTV etc

[-] AmericaDeserved711@hexbear.net 35 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

so Russia is not a "world superpower" but can get all these other countries to do their bidding at the drop of a hat. which is it?

[-] Pentacat@hexbear.net 15 points 4 hours ago

Americans are unfamiliar with “soft power.” For obvious reasons.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 25 points 6 hours ago

They just write little Tom Clancy stories in their heads

[-] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 8 points 2 hours ago

When I was in grade school I read a lot of Tom Clancy and spoiled the ending of debt of honour to my grade 5 teacher

I think he was part mad because I spoiled the ending and part mad that he was reading the same geopolitical thrillers as a 10 year old

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 8 points 2 hours ago

He was right to be embarrassed

[-] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 22 points 6 hours ago

I was just about to say that this is like Tom Clancy but less grounded.

[-] SSJ3Marx@hexbear.net 17 points 5 hours ago

In Chaos Theory North Korea's aggression is entirely the result of Japanese fascists who want to remilitarize hacking their missile systems with the help of an American military contractor who wants to start a regional war for profit, so maybe they should re-read their source material.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 14 points 5 hours ago

This is just liberal Qanon but for geopolitics.

What is Hexbear take on the culture war being perpetrated by “outside influence” like Russia?

The rise of anti-trans/LGBT, anti-BLM discourse, all the MAGA culture war bullshit in recent years, seem to at least in part caused by agitation and stirred up by Russian chuds/pro-Putin agents to sow dissent amongst the American public.

[-] Are_Euclidding_Me@hexbear.net 11 points 3 hours ago

Hey, this is a theory that I've never heard anywhere else. In full honesty, it doesn't seem true to me, I'm pretty sure Amerikkkans are just like that and the reactionary sentiment is homegrown, but I'd like to hear more from you about why you think the culture war has been stirred up by external forces, specifically Russia, if I'm reading your comment correctly.

Would you please say more about why you think reactionary discourse in Amerikkka is coming from external agitators? (Assuming you agree with that framing, if not, please tell me what I've misread.)

[-] xiaohongshu@hexbear.net 4 points 3 hours ago

One of the recent Trueanon episodes covered this, where Russia has been caught trying to boost the right wing, pro-Trump platform Tenet Media featuring right wing influencers like Tim Pool and Dave Rubin.

And this is only the one that got caught and exposed. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Russia playing a large role behind agitating culture war in America. The MAGA Republican chud position is not that different from your average Russian these days.

[-] WaterBowlSlime@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 hours ago

Isn't that more like pouring gasoline on a fire that Americans created themselves? These influencers already had long careers being fascist with much support from their audience before being contacted by Tenet media. It isn't Russia mind-controlling America, it's some chuds from RT signal boosting their fav celebrities.

Also there are many other unrelated outlets that spew the same bullshit: the Daily Wire, Breitbart, Babylon Bee, PragerU, etc. And they all throw around more money than ten million dollars (not that that isn't a lot of money, but it's definitely not enough to sway the politics of an entire country lol)

Americans place a lot of emphasis on Russian influence because it provides cover for homegrown fascism, justifies their war against Russia, and directs attention away from international American propaganda that is 1,000,000x more pervasive and effective.

[-] SoloboiNanook@hexbear.net 11 points 3 hours ago

The maga chud position is like boilerplate fascist shit. It's not unique really. Strong man strong. Return to tradition. The outside enemy is always there. The enemy is strong yet weak etc etc. Russia do be instigating to a degree just like other countries be doing to each other.

[-] Are_Euclidding_Me@hexbear.net 5 points 3 hours ago

Oh shit, I remember now, I did listen to that Trueanon, I remember the name Eduard Grigoriann.

Interestingly, the allegations didn't really stick with me. I remember thinking "Oh great, Lauren Chen is being bankrolled by Russia. Neat, who cares, strange little bit of conservative hypocrisy there I guess". And I literally haven't thought about it since.

[-] combat_brandonism@hexbear.net 3 points 1 hour ago

I think they covered it for two reasons:

  1. funny name
  2. the rampup in unregistered foreign agent prosecutions contrasts starkly with the rising influence of the lobby
[-] TheModerateTankie@hexbear.net 10 points 3 hours ago

Probably 99% of what you see online is homegrown. Russia sucks and I'm sure they are adding fuel to the fire with with bots and fake accounts (along with other crap like anti-vax nonsense), because the cost is trivial, but how does that stack up against the youtube and social media algorithms pushing those views to stir up "engagement"? King Bazinga bought a social media app specifically to promote that shit.

[-] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 11 points 4 hours ago

I'm an American. Nothing has changed accept that Trump is more flamboyant than your typical Republican presidential nominee. The insane culture war hysteria/ absolute lack of class conflict awareness is the same as it's always been. In fact, it's probably more subdued than it has been in previous decades. This is normal America.

[-] tripartitegraph@hexbear.net 20 points 6 hours ago

Some days I kinda wish I were this stupid. Life would be a lot simpler if it obeyed baby-brain lib logic

[-] Dr_Gabriel_Aby@hexbear.net 27 points 6 hours ago

Pretty awesome if Putin pulled this off. Would be the largest strategic victory for a US enemy since Osama Bin Laden made the empire kill itself with 9/11

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 16 points 6 hours ago

It really is the lib version of chuds believing China sent the hurricane.

Liberal fanfiction, this is idealism in action.

Side note, for any DPRK-heads, is there actual risk of war with ROK? Seems to me DPRK is hunkering down after giving up on reconcilliation, not that they are escalating, it's my understanding that neither side wants war.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 27 points 8 hours ago

They're responding to a drone dropping propaganda on them last I heard and they blew up a roadway leading south. So there goes any real talks for now I'd imagine. Still SK are bastards for trying what they did.

[-] Cowbee@hexbear.net 24 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

They've also dissolved peace talk committees, to my knowledge, and are severing diplomatic ties. This to me seems more like hunkering down, you'd figure they would keep talks open during wartime as the goal would be to have favorable surrender conditions for the ROK to the DPRK. Just my uninformed guess, that's why I am asking if anyone knows more.
