I will fight anyone who thinks Yoshi's Story on the N64 was bad. That was charming, unique, and had a great soundtrack.

"Yoshi's Crafted World" on Switch plays very much like the old N64 game, too, although there's a lot more hand-holding. As an adult, it's far more fun if you’re very inebriated.

That said - Yoshi's Island is the best, no contest.

For a while this game was the gold standard on how powerful a retro emulator was because of how advanced this game was graphically for the SNES.

You can play as Yoshi in the post-game content on Odyssey, so there is definitely potential for a 3D Yoshi game.

Yoshi's Story is fun, kind of like Star Fox where you can choose your own routes. Each playthrough is shorter, but more replayable. Unfortunately I haven't played any later Mario game since Galaxy.

I love the graphics, style, backgrounds, enviroments. looks like a good water painting and I like the high contrast background at far away. Musics are also good, especially level 8 bosses and last bosses. I also liked yoshi gameplay feels: you can save the baby and get no punishment except star losses which are not really that important, also yoshi you control is basically indestructible except baby, which feels nice. later games were not this good
