The fact that Zuckerberg whipped up a shitty PHP app to steal girls' phone numbers and is now one of the richest assholes on the planet is frustrating.

The fact that I helped it along for so many years by using Facebook even moreso.

I feel used.

[-] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 42 points 1 year ago

Zuck did little for development. He stole Facebook and conned the other shareholders out of their share. Most tech billionaires have a similar story. They have rich parents and were investors.

It should simply not be legal anywhere to hold more money than you could possibly spend in your lifetime.

Similarly, much like there is a minimum wage (at least in the U.S.), there should be a maximum wage. And that would include stock options.

The middle class gets a wealth tax, but the top people don't. Freaking wealth tax above . This current state of affairs is ridiculous.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Agreed. And I amend my statement. If rich people want to live the high life with all of their money in Tehran or Pyongyang and not have to worry about pesky old taxes, don't let me stop you. Most other places? Tax them at 99.99% at a certain level. All of their assets.

That's $1250 for every person in the world. Imagine what that could do for all the people living off $50/month.

World’s 500 ~~Richest~~ Greediest People

[-] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 year ago

World's 500 juiciest meals.

[-] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 5 points 1 year ago

I imagine they would taste like pharmaceuticals and dry sand. But maybe the fat would make them juicy, idk

[-] uis@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Sounds like food poisoning

[-] dotdi@lemmy.world 34 points 1 year ago

Would be a real pity if someone Luigi’d a few of them

Should we make Guillotine Day a federal holiday?

[-] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 1 year ago
[-] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Ooh. I like it.

As an added perk, pushing for Luigi Day will probably land me fewer beatings with the banhammer, too!

I'm feeling pretty merry this holiday season.

That money is well earned, I've heard billionaires work thousands of hours per day.

[-] Sir_Premiumhengst@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

Why use a played out Trump and Musk photo. Use photos of people we would be surprised to see on the list.

[-] notgold@aussie.zone -1 points 1 year ago
[-] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

Why post just the women? If we need a new face, Bernard Arnault is right there, and the women listed aren't even in the top 15 wealthiest...

[-] notgold@aussie.zone 2 points 1 year ago

Because they asked for people who were not so well known. Number 7 on that list sued her own children out of their inheritances

[-] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

Now THAT is some tea. But then again, rich people being greedy enough to fuck over their own children isn't that surprising.

Only one way to find out

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

So Elon is basically 4% of the top five hundred’s wealth alone?

I wonder how much Putin or Saudi royalty are actually worth.

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Worth? Nothing lol but they have lots of money

[-] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

If they're that buttered up they must be willing to be eaten

CBC has a fundraising drive for food banks every year. This year they raised around 2.3 million dollars.

So yeah.

Efficiency.

[-] PixellatedDave@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

500 huh? Not a lot of people really. Even I could count backwards from 500 really easy...

Ambition requires men to feed upon. It also needs time, direction, and sacrifice. But for every man who fulfills his calling, there are thousands left with nothing.

It's them who knock and open the door to Hell.

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Next year, they will probably just need the top 200 to accomplish that.

[-] MetalMachine@feddit.nl 2 points 1 year ago

The rich keep on getting richer and the poor poorer. At the same time, the middle class shrinks.

[-] skeezix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care.
