Ok Soros is funny and conspiracy nuts will have a field day, but...

Anna fucking Wintour? The demon in human guise that the author of the book "The devil wears Prada" was supposed to make it about, but didn't want to get sued? One of the most cancerous, toxic, damaging voices in the fashion industry, and that's saying fucking something, given the concentration of narcissistic pieces of shit that flock around couture and runways? And she gets the medal of freedom?

I guess it makes sense, because someone who has built an empire on exploitation and pushing the worst of humanity as an ideal is representative of the American concept of "freedom".

former Governor of Michigan George W Romney will receive the award posthumously.

Gotta impotently “reach across the aisle” one last pathetic time.

Biden just had a long conversation with him last month about the good ol days.

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

And by good old days he means segregation.

[-] newacctidk@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Honestly Romney was to Biden's left on segregation. He was certainly an opportunist and did shit like not marching in Detroit with MLK because "it was a Sunday" but then showing up the next saturday to march and subsequently claiming he was there the entire time. But Romney had this weird third positionist stance which served him really well. The GOP disliked him, seeing him as another Eisenhower, someone very much opposed to the Birchers and Goldwater, though the whole "walked out of the convention" this is a total lie one mostly spun by Mitt.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/johnrbohrer/making-mitt-the-myth-of-george-romney

After Cleveland, Romney distanced himself from the stop-Goldwater faction as they endorsed Scranton and promoted party-platform amendments to support civil rights and denounce extremism. Romney instead declared his neutrality and developed his own pro-civil rights and anti-extremism platform amendments. He portrayed himself as a broker, not a member of a moderate faction. “In some things I’m more conservative than Barry Goldwater,” Romney said. (“He did not elaborate,” the Detroit News retorted.) Gerald Ford, then a Michigan congressman rising in prominence, set up a meeting for Romney with Republican leaders in Washington to lobby for his planks, and Romney incorporated their input. He accommodated conservatives by not specifically naming the John Birch Society in the anti-extremism plank because “I am unwilling to condemn anyone on a group basis” — news to his Bircher foe Richard Durant. He also backed off an effort to label the civil rights bill “constitutional.” He was being a team player, open to suggestion, unlike the stop-Goldwater clique.

Of course, Romney might simply have been positioning himself as the neutral alternative if the convention deadlocked between Goldwater and Scranton and moved to draft someone else. Romney announced he was running for reelection as Michigan’s governor in May, yet waited until the very last day of the deadline to file his petition signatures — four days after the July national convention.

This quote sums him up so well

“Romney perplexes his less-principled observers, for no one is ever exactly sure what his principles will tell him to do.”

Honestly similar to Biden

Thank you for the informative post. I didn't know anything about Romney before, I was just riffing on the fact that Biden opposed integrating schools in PA.

I literally just said aloud "FUCKING BONO?" to my friend in voice chat lmao

[-] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 38 points 1 year ago

These things are so silly. Like, do any other countries award so many of these "regime medals" to random people and celebrities?

Usually they award them to other heads of state for no reason

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

Knighthoods

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

I know that China gives out medals but for actual shit like excellence in fields of work and such.

[-] SoyViking@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

In Denmark they hand out knighthoods to:

  • Royals. These people hand eachother decorations like normal people exchange birthday gifts.
  • Diplomats and heads of state which is a very common diplomatic practice. Recently the Egyptian dictator visited and he and his delegation all got fancy orders to make them happy
  • Prominent politicians, like ministers and long-time MP's
  • Fancylads working fancy jobs for the royals. If you regularly attend the same parties as the king they put some bling on you so your dress uniform doesn't look too bare.
  • High-ranking civil servants and military officers
  • The occasional businessperson, scientist or artist

Some of the artists and a few of the politicians do not accept the knighthood. Some refuse because they oppose the monarchy, other refuse because they feel that a snobbish order doesn't fit their personality.

In France we have the Legion of Honor, same shit, they give it to their friends

[-] Sylvartas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago

Which is even more fucked imo. Now my grandfather's highest military honor he got for fighting the fucking nazis is shared with some random rich asshole who was friends with Sarkozy or whatever

[-] xiaohongshu@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago

Is Biden giving out awards to all the people he like before he dies?

[-] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

End stage capitalism(humanity) is awesome. We get to see rich losers that lucked and bullshitted their way to the top suck each other off non stop as of they're better than everyone else

[-] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

Also Lionel Messi apparently lmao

[-] PortugueseDragon@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

He didn't go tho, maybe because one of his idols is Che Guevara

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

He's not even American (neither is bono so idk), but Americans don't give a fuck about football.

Also, another reason why Maradona is the goat. He would've never gotten any honors from any Yankee president.

[-] capitanazo@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Vamos Messi y la puta mdre!!!!!!

CR7 could never

[-] poppy_apocalypse@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

And Magic Johnson jesus-christ

[-] culpritus@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

Is this like a move to take pressure off Trump/Elon about the H1B visas thing? Biden just over here trying to bait the chuds attention onto something else.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

Nah, I think Biden and the WH are just that dumb/full of themselves to not care about the optics of Biden gifting Soros the medal of freedom.

[-] Weedian@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

I read it as George Santos at first lol

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It's an Onion headline. And an Onion photo too.

[-] miz@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

[-] sexywheat@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago

How is this real

[-] newacctidk@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago

Oh fucking course the plastic Paddy would give Bono a medal.

[-] LaBellaLotta@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

Folks, they’re dabbing on us.

[-] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

and Lionel Messi

[-] sisatici@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

many people are saying how bad these people are. I know none besides george soros. could anyone explain me why they are so bad

[-] JayTreeman@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

Soros is ridiculously rich. Bono spends an awful lot of time telling people that they should help out the unfortunate even though he's rich enough to pick a cause and work on it

[-] newacctidk@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

And any Irishman who is upset about colonialism or literal pogroms should just go on tour and make a shit load of money, why are they always complaining?

[-] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Dude starts off Sunday Bloody Sunday with a pompous both sides speech, proudly proclaiming "this is not a rebel song." As far as he is concerned, The Troubles were just a spot of bad weather. No underlying causes or responsible parties. Just something meant for detached lamentation from the ivory tower. Perfect fucking liberal.

[-] newacctidk@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

The Cranberries Zombie is the same way. Marxist Paul has a great video tearing into it.

What's funny is another liberal wrote a song called "Sunday Bloody Sunday": and it has fantastic politics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGvXNvumGjY

I love how the wikipedia article for it uncritically calls Bono's "more nuanced" and sites a bunch of libs on how it fails cause it treats a MASSACRE with such hostility. Even the Wolfe Tones toned down the lyrics which is why I love Eire Og's rendition

[-] newacctidk@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

also stumbled onto our boy Tim Shorrock calling Bono "rock coward Bobo" when Biden gave him the medal https://x.com/TimothyS/status/1875597791336206761
