Remember the first few days after the election when the media was trying to blame Harris' loss on Dems focusing too much on irrelevant issues like LGBT inclusivity while Republicans were focused on the things people cared most about like the economy.

Best part is that dem loyalists will blame Chappel Roan and other queer people for not voting or voting third party

[-] LupineTroubles@hexbear.net 37 points 2 months ago

This is just vile. It is so difficult to witness a state's whole weight utilized to persecute and disenfranchise the few trans people involved in sports this way.

Entire state wielded just to serve the compulsive thoughts of some who are obsessed about trans people and want to take it out on them by not only stealing joy from the ones who want to participate in sports but also word it in the most insultingly self-satisfied way possible.

[-] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 35 points 2 months ago

The goal isn't just the few trans people in sports, its to use this as a foot in the door for persecuting us more generally. That's always been the plan behind this, and its working.

[-] LupineTroubles@hexbear.net 18 points 2 months ago

Of course, the intent and meaning is clear from the wording alone to anyone looking at it in good faith. It isn't just talking about sports but trying to discredit and delegitimize trans people and especially trans women.

However the foot in the door is allowed because there are people whose purpose for being came to be preventing the very few trans people in sports which comes up again and again repeatedly in any competition now including of course against cis people.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 37 points 2 months ago

Just the casual genocide of trans people.

This policy on banning transgender athletes in women's sports has 79% approval amongst the American general population by the way. Yes you read that right, 79%. The situation is that bad...

Source, IPSOS poll pdf

While being able to do sports is not something that really matters, it's a litmus test for what cis "allies" really think. If they want to ban trans women from sports, then they just see us as males(she/her), and any acceptance is just them being polite.

While being able to do sports is not something that really matters

This is pretty important for children's formative developmental years

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

And liberals still blame minorities for this shit because they didn't support Biden or Harris. Despite the fact the democrats' voter base are all a bunch of fucking ghouls who support Trump's policies, just not his demeanor. They'll rub this in trans people's faces like "You deserve this for not voting for us," just like they blame PoC for white supremacy.

This is such a non-issue. Even if it was important, we should still let trans people play whatever sports they want.

It's BS that I blame on Capitalism. We're all forced to compete with each other in every aspect of life. I believe the whole "soccer mom" phenomenon stems from colleges becoming unaffordable for working class folks without taking out massive loans, so parents are pushing their kids to do well in sports to try and get those coveted scholarships. It sucks that something that's supposed to be a fun way to work out and build community is yet another battlefield fragile cis crackers need special privileges to win in.

I'm definitely becoming racist against white people.

Assisted the whole why by the Democrats. It is going to take a long time to deprogram the country on this.

I also think all the activists and "NGOs" that coddled up to the Dem establishment have to take some blame. This was a terrible strategy from the beginning, to get in bed with the Democrat-NGO-media complex to try find an easy way out in obtaining social progress. Even ignoring all the ethical concerns and how this whole strategy backfired with pink washing, LGBT capitalism, a large increase in anti LGBT attitudes, transgender healthcare bans, etc, on a pure mathematical level it means that in order for LGBT people to have rights, Democrats have to win every election. A mathematical impossibility.

If you're going to team up with the Dems at least ensure that you have some guarantees that they'll pass some kind of permanent/hard to remove human rights protections/legislation. Selling out to the Dems and getting this in return is embarrassing and undignified.

I think either that poll is an outlier, or Americans have gotten significantly more transphobic in a very short amount of time. A majority of Americans have always opposed athletes participating in the sport of the gender they identify with, but this poll - admittedly from 2021 - shows it at 62% and I think is more in line with other polls. There’s also the issue that even if a majority are against it, it also is true that the American public doesn’t seem to like making it a political issue, and I think it cost the GOP in 2022 when they ran hard on transphobia. Like, your median American may not like the idea trans women in women’s sports, but it’s also something they probably haven’t thought about for more than 2 minutes of their lives; and when they see a politician basing a campaign around it they (rightly) think it to be weird.

I think the political landscape has changed massively from 2021 to 2025 now. Just look at the 2020 Dem campaign on LGBT issues vs 2024. Big difference. IPSOS is some of the most reliable polling out there. As for Americans rapidly becoming more bigoted, even that poll from 2021 you linked showed a movement of negative 5 points over two years for transgender acceptance in the military. Extrapolate that overall to 2025 for other trans issues, and the numbers look really bad, a basic linear calculation would be negative 10 points on every issue, so 72% against transgender athletes in women's sports using the numbers from that 2021 poll. Trump won the election, including the popular vote, and was polled to be ahead of Harris on every key issue aside from abortion, so I really do think that your average American has become that more fascist over the past 4 years. Even the "#Resistance" by the liberals right now is 10 times more pathetic than it was in 2016. Just look at the "protests" that took place today.

This is the reality of the situation, it really is that bad. I don't think it has quite set in yet, but it's what I'm seeing. Is it a temporary thing to do with Trump, or a permanent change in attitude, that we'll have to wait and see.

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

62% is still an incredibly high number from supposed "allies."

The weaponization of title IX is terrifying.

[-] godlessworm@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

would you be able to explain what you mean by that? what's title ix?

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

title ix is why womens sports get any funding and some other equal access kinda shit

[-] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

So I'm guessing it is weaponized by them threatening funding if they don't listen to orders like this one?

[-] MoonMelon@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

The federal government has a limited set of "enumerated powers", so it's always weaponized funding. That or classifying everything and anything as "interstate commerce".

[-] JohnBrownsBussy2@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago

I was wondering what further indignities that the administration could come up with this week.
