You have 86 days to get all your money out of your bank accounts. This is financial advice.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Conspiracy theory 2: Trump is just doing this to pump the economy with lots of (panic) consumption so he can proclaim that his first 100 days resulted in tremendous success and is proof he is a genius unlike Biden.

This has got to be it, I really don't even think that he will implement the tariffs at all

[-] NuraShiny@hexbear.net 30 points 4 days ago

Please consume product. Then get excited for next product.

Get another credit card so you can stock up on essentials like a new blender or another Nintendo switch. You must continue to consoom

[-] GeneralSwitch2Boycott@hexbear.net 16 points 4 days ago

Don't even joke about anyone here purchasing a Switch2. I'd be so betrayed.

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago

I'm not a bit. I'm the whole package.

I will personally be stocking up on refrigerators and selling them on the black market with my OWN mark up.

Time to just go without the newest shiny thing, jesus christ. Or buy second hand and learn to repair what you can...Although, since thrifting and reselling got popular sometimes shit like shirts from Target will self for MORE at a thrift store than getting it brand new agony-shivering

[-] vegeta1@hexbear.net 18 points 5 days ago

The price goughing will be diabolical

[-] ratboy@hexbear.net 10 points 4 days ago

seriously, i assume that prices won't just rise enough to cover whatever costs the tariffs might incur, but of course someone's going to want to make an extra buck. I could imagine something with 25% tariffs actually selling for 30% markup or something. I wonder if he will really follow through after the pause though

and learn to repair what you can

Funny, consumer electronics nowadays are made to be difficult to repair for a novice. Capitalism, so innovative!

[-] ratboy@hexbear.net 1 points 4 days ago

True :/ I sure can't

[-] rafflesia@hexbear.net 23 points 4 days ago

buy t-shirts and jeans

[-] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 23 points 4 days ago

If it wasn't for Costco, I would be wearing a barrel like a cartoon character

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 14 points 4 days ago

Currently at Costco bc I can get dinner for 4$ and my brain is so fried right now cooking is unimaginable

[-] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago

I'm not really big into the "necessary evil" idea, but if I have to play the game I might as well save money. Plus you can get cheap tofu and bulk rice and beans. When you live paycheck to paycheck, it can be a life saver

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago

I got incredibly lucky a month ago and just happened to stumble across a place that was closing down and having a 75% off sale. Without that I'd still be wearing my jeans that are practically falling apart, lol.

Not even a complete pause.

There are still large tariffs on China.

The admin still added 10% to basically everyone.

De minimis is still scheduled to end on May 2 and result in large customs fees for direct-to-consumer purchases from China. Many sellers on Amazon are shipping from China (the ones that take 2-3 weeks to arrive).

The media has been particularly incompetent in describing the real state of the tariffs. They keep adopting Trump's inaccurate language.

The media has been particularly incompetent in describing the real state of the tariffs. They keep adopting Trump's inaccurate language.

They don't know how to do reporting anymore. They've been publishing press releases from the White House for so long that they literally can't have original thoughts.

[-] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 4 days ago

Who exactly is this targeted towards. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck. They cant "stock up"

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/86_(term)

Eighty-six or 86 is American English slang used primarily in the hospitality industry and sometimes in the military.

In the hospitality industry, it is used to indicate that an item is no longer available, traditionally from a food or drinks establishment, or referring to a person or people who are not welcome on the premises. Its etymology is unknown, but the term seems to have been coined in the 1920s or 1930s.

Military personnel might use “86” informally to refer to scrapping equipment (e.g., “That old radio got 86’d”) or ending a plan or mission (e.g., “The op was 86’d due to bad weather”). It’s not an official term in military doctrine or manuals, but it’s part of the informal jargon that soldiers, sailors, or airmen might pick up and use, influenced by broader civilian language.
