Yeah it hasn’t aged well and after watching Perfect Blue it seems kind of damning how much was ripped from that. Perfect Blue btw is an absolutely amazing film if you haven’t seen it.

This is a loyalist area if I understand correctly. From what I’ve read this town has been home to hateful bigots for a good while. Apparently loyalists tend to be much more xenophobic in general which I guess shouldn’t be surprising: https://www.irishtimes.com/politics/2025/02/15/sharp-divides-in-attitudes-to-immigration-within-northern-ireland-and-either-side-of-border/

What about Los Locos? They seemed pretty scary in Short Circuit 2.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but pharma tariffs from the US don't seem all that scary from the EU perspective since the cost is just gonna get passed onto health insurance companies and therefore patients, but they don't seem likely to lose that market. It's just going to make life worse for people in the US who depend on those medications. On the other hand, China is a 1.4 billion person market which seems like it would be pretty hard to pass up.

The pharma companies have also been front-loading anyways, in preparation for this:

CSO data published on Tuesday showed there was a more than five-fold increase in pharmaceutical exports to the US in February compared with the same month last year, up from 1.87 billion to 10.45 billion euro.

Exports to the US in general were up 210%.

EY Ireland partner and chief economist Dr Loretta O’Sullivan said: “This bears all the hallmarks of a pre-emptive strike.

“The pharmaceutical sector was not alone in frontloading in February; the drinks industry also took steps to get ahead of policy shifts by the Trump administration, a smart move now that whiskey and other products have been hit with a 10% tariff.

This reminds me of a discussion I once saw on Reddit where someone gave a very poor explanation of how a completely decentralized economy might work.

Was discussing this with tracha, and thought why not invite everyone and make it a bigger thing. I know the movies usually start at 8pm EDT, so I figure we have time. Let me know if there's anything else that might interfere. Otherwise, we're watching Columbo at this time.

Happening here as usual: https://blorp.zapto.org:8443/o/visual_cuisine

Aber, who served as U.S. attorney in Virginia for most of the Biden administration, took office in October 2021 after being unanimously confirmed by the Senate and stepped down in January, shortly after President Donald Trump's inauguration.

As U.S. attorney, Aber oversaw a staff of some 300 prosecutors and other staff and handled federal prosecutions in the state.

She started working in the office starting in 2009 as an assistant U.S. attorney, prosecuting financial fraud, public corruption, violent crime and child exploitation cases, according to an online biography.

She was supposedly also involved in the Jan 6th prosecutions but I’m not sure why she would be targeted specifically over that, assuming this was foul play, which is a big assumption at this point.

Maybe this is the reason for the sudden flood of US military posts I saw before? If they could get the app to ban American accounts for them, then they could just blame China without having to go through the steps to ban another app.

I agree and I appreciate you posting this. I usually don’t talk about weight stuff with anyone anywhere, because I don’t think the discussion would be handled well, but maybe I/we should expect more when it comes to a site like this.

I very much recommend it, but CW in that it has a lot of very horny jokes which might not be for everyone. Also if you plan on playing it, try to avoid reading anything about the plot to avoid spoilers.

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I swear the article said this pistol requires manual clearing, yet you have a cop quoted in the article saying “his gun jammed? Does it seem like the cops have no fucking clue what they’re doing here?
