huh. I posted the youtube video where Tim Cook (Apple CEO) says it. The time stamp is 9m26s.

The reason I post this quote is that it is an example where an American CEO admits that China manufactures higher quality products than the US and he even says that the labor from China costs more.

[-] dead@hexbear.net 18 points 6 days ago

There's a confusion about China. Let me at least give you my opinion. The popular conception is that companies come to China because of low labor cost.

I'm not sure what part of China they go to but the truth is China stopped being the low labor cost country many years ago and that is not the reason to come to China from a supply point of view.

The reason is because of the skill and the quantity of skill in one location and the type of skill. The products we do require really advanced tooling and the the precision that you have to have in tooling and working with the materials that we do are state-of-the-art and the tooling skill is very deep here.

In the US, you could have a meeting of tooling engineers and I'm not sure we could fill the room. In China, you could fill multiple football fields.

It's that vocational expertise is very, very deep here and I give the the education system a lot of credit for continuing to push on that even when others were de-emphasizing vocational.

Now I think many countries in the world have woke up and said you know this is a key thing and we've got to correct that but China called that right from the beginning.

On Friday, Trump had claimed that he spoke with Xi over the phone.

https://www.mfa.gov.cn/eng/xw/fyrbt/lxjzh/202504/t20250428_11606273.html

Phoenix TV: It was reported that President Trump said at a TIME interview on April 22 that President Xi Jinping “has called.” What is China’s comment? Is there ongoing talks between China and the U.S.?

Guo Jiakun: As far as I know, there have not been any calls between the two presidents recently.

Let me make it clear one more time that China and the U.S. are not engaged in any consultation or negotiation on tariffs.

AFP: The U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a television interview on Sunday suggested that China might be denying ongoing talks between the U.S. and China on tariffs because China is “playing to a different audience,” but that there’s a path forward. So would the Foreign Ministry like to respond to Mr. Bessent’s assessment of the situation?

Guo Jiakun: China’s position on the tariff war is abundantly clear. Tariff and trade wars have no winners. If a negotiated solution is truly what the U.S. wants, it should stop threatening and blackmailing China, and seek dialogue based on equality, respect and mutual benefit.

AFP: Can the Foreign Ministry share any details about Wang Yi’s trip to Brazil for the BRICS meeting, including any deals that he hopes to land with other countries on how to respond to tariff tensions?

Guo Jiakun: China previously shared Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s attendance at the Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs / International Relations and other relevant meetings. Readouts on Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s activities in Brazil will be released in due course. Please stay tuned.

WPK Central Military Commission Highly Praises Combat Sub-units of Armed Forces of DPRK for Performing Heroic Feats in Operations to Liberate Kursk Area of Russian Federation

Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- The Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea highly appreciated the combat sub-units of the armed forces of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for performing heroic feats in the operations to repulse and annihilate the grave sovereignty infringement by the Ukrainian authorities, who invaded the territory of the Russian Federation, and completely liberate the occupied area of Kursk Region.

The WPK Central Military Commission said as follows in its written stand sent to the Rodong Sinmun and the Korean Central News Agency on April 27:

The operations for liberating the Kursk area to repel the adventurous invasion of the Russian Federation by the Ukrainian authorities were victoriously concluded.

The sub-units of our armed forces, which participated in the operations for liberating the Kursk areas according to the order of the head of state of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, fully demonstrated their high fighting spirit and military temperament and made an important contribution to annihilating the Ukrainian neo-Nazi forces and liberating the territory of the Russian Federation by displaying mass heroism, matchless bravery and self-sacrificing spirit.

It is the pride of our state and the greatest pride of our people to have such excellent soldiers.

The victorious conclusion of the operations for liberating the Kursk area is a victory of justice against injustice and, at the same time, a new chapter of history which demonstrated the highest strategic level of the firm militant friendship between the two countries of the DPRK and Russia and the alliance and the fraternal relations between the peoples of the two countries.

Thanks to the precious victory won by the armies of the DPRK and Russia while shedding blood in the same trench shoulder to shoulder, the occupation of the Kursk area by the Ukrainian army for nearly nine months came to an end and the adventurous political and military attempt of the Western forces and the Ukrainian authorities to frustrate the special military operations of Russia was frustrated.

The Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea extends the warmest and ardent congratulations to the commanding officers of the special operations group and all officers, noncommissioned officers and soldiers of the combat sub-units who participated in the operations for liberating the Kursk area to defend the precious honor of our army and performed immortal feats to be recorded in gold letters in the history of the development of the DPRK-Russia relations.

The Ukrainian authorities, out as the vanguard and shock brigade of the imperialist powers to inflict strategic defeat on Russia, made a vigorous attack on the Russian mainland by surprise with the involvement of tens of thousands of elite forces armed with ultra-modern weapons and combat and technical equipment of the West in August 2024 under the sinister intention to reverse the war situation in which they were thrown into tailspin, and thus occupied an area of over 1 200 square kilometers in Kursk Region, turned many residential districts into ruins and mercilessly killed many peaceable inhabitants.

The reckless military moves of the hostile forces that violently plundered Russia, the fraternal country, of its sovereignty and security became a threat to the accomplishment of the common cause of the DPRK and Russia for realizing international justice and defending global peace against the imperialist high-handed and arbitrary practices and a grave challenge to the militant friendship and unity between the armies and peoples of the two countries.

On the basis of the analysis and judgment that the prevailing situation was conformed to the invocation of Article 4 of the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership concluded between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation, Comrade Kim Jong Un decided our armed forces' participation in the war, informed the Russian side of it and, in accordance with the agreement, issued an order of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea to combat sub-units of the armed forces of the Republic to annihilate and wipe out the Ukrainian neo-Nazi occupiers and liberate the Kursk area in cooperation with the Russian armed forces.

Comrade Kim Jong Un, determined to make the combat sub-units of our armed forces participate in the war, defined it as a sacred mission to further consolidate as firm as a rock the traditional friendship and solidarity between the two countries of the DPRK and Russia, guarantee the development and prosperity of both countries and defend the honor of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The military activities of the armed forces of the Republic conducted within the boundary of the Russian Federation fully conform to all the provisions and the spirit of the UN Charter and other international laws and the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between the DPRK and Russia and serve as a model example and an excellent model of the most faithful expression of action to implement them.

Under the order of the head of state, the sub-units of the armed forces of the Republic regarded the territory of Russia as the one of their country and proved the firm alliance between the two countries of the DPRK and Russia and recorded legendary tales of military feats with their high will of defence, the do-or-die spirit and practical combat action accompanied by sacrifice.

On the occasion of the liberation of Kursk, Comrade Kim Jong Un specially stressed the following:

"They who fought for justice are all heroes and representatives of the honour of the motherland.

In praise of the heroism and bravery of the proud sons of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, a monument to the battle feats will be soon erected in our capital city and flowers of praying for immortality given by the motherland and the people will be placed before the tombstones of the fallen soldiers.

The fighting spirit and heroism of the soldiers who demonstrated the great name of the strong and the glory of the victors will shine long in the high platform of respect and honor generation after generation.

The motherland should hand down forever the soul of them who fought to defend the great honor and take important state measures to specially and preferentially treat and take care of the families of the brave soldiers who participated in the war."

The head of state of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea said that he extends warm militant greetings to the Russian army and people who won a great victory.

The government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea regards it as an honor to have an alliance with such a powerful state as the Russian Federation and is pleased that the participation of the sub-units of our armed forces in the war has further strengthened the militant ties between the two countries of the DPRK and Russia and contributed to conducting the special military operations of Russia.

The Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea is convinced that the invincible militant friendship between the two countries verified at the cost of blood in combat gunfire will greatly contribute to expanding and developing the future relations of friendship and cooperation between the DPRK and Russia in all aspects, and affirms that it will invariably and fully support the sacred cause of the Russian army and people in the future, too, and as ever remain faithful to any action based on the spirit of the DPRK-Russia inter-state treaty, upon the authorization of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. -0-

The birth of the new-type multi-mission destroyer, which is an ensemble of the state economy and an aggregate of self-reliant defence technology and which is equipped with the powerful cutting-edge strike weapon systems of the Korean style which do not allow comparison, is a brilliant fruition of the iron faith and will and outstanding leadership of the great Comrade Kim Jong Un, who indicated the path for rapidly developing the naval force of the DPRK into a powerful treasured sword for defending justice and peace and a service equipped with the comprehensive fighting power with nuclear weapons as the main axis and is dynamically steering the rejuvenation of the warship-building industry, and a valuable victory won by the strong aspiration and indomitable advance of the Korean people to outpace the world with the conviction in their own strength and courageous struggle.

Global Times: It’s reported that talks continue between the U.S. and China on tackling the fentanyl issue, but the Chinese are failing to negotiate in good faith. The U.S. might consider additional punitive measures to compel China to take meaningful action. This is according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter. What’s your comment?

Guo Jiakun: Fentanyl is the U.S.’s problem, not China’s. The U.S. and the U.S. alone has the responsibility to solve it. Despite the goodwill China has shown, the U.S. slapped tariffs on Chinese imports and blames it on fentanyl. This is bullying through and through, and highly damaging to dialogue and cooperation on counternarcotics. The U.S. should know that vilifying others will not hide its failed responsibility, to punish those who try to help will not solve any problem, and intimidation or threats are certainly not the right way to engage with China.

Reuters: I have two questions. The U.S. side said that trade talks between the U.S. and China are ongoing and a White House official said lower-level in-person talks as well as a phone call between U.S. and Chinese staff have taken place this week. Has the U.S. tried to reach out to the Chinese side? If so, is China willing to engage in trade talks? Second question, China is considering exempting some U.S. imports from its 125 percent tariffs and is asking businesses to identify goods that could be eligible. Can China confirm this?

Guo Jiakun: On your first question, yesterday, both my colleague at the Ministry of Commerce and I gave a clear answer to this question. China and the U.S. are not having any consultation or negotiation on tariffs. The U.S. should stop creating confusion.

On your second question, I am not aware of the specifics. I’d refer you to competent authorities.

CCTV: Recently the Permanent Mission of China to the UN held an Arria-formula meeting at the UN Security Council on “the Impact of Unilateralism and Bullying Practices on International Relations” in New York. Can you share more information about that?

Guo Jiakun: On April 23, Ambassador Fu Cong of the Permanent Mission of China to the UN chaired the UN Security Council Arria-Formula Meeting on “the Impact of Unilateralism and Bullying Practices on International Relations.” Representatives from over 80 countries, including UNSC members, attended the meeting. China stressed at the meeting that the U.S.’s tariff levies severely infringe upon the legitimate rights and interests of all countries, severely violate the WTO rules, and severely disrupt the global economic order. It is essentially about subverting the existing international economic and trade order by means of tariffs, putting the U.S. interests above the common good of the international community, and serving US hegemony at the cost of other countries’ legitimate interests. The world needs openness and inclusiveness, not closure and isolation, sovereign equality, not the strong bullying the weak, fairness and justice, not putting one’s own country first, and solidarity and cooperation, not division and confrontation. The international community must make the right choice, make its unified voice heard, and take joint actions.

Many countries at the meeting called for upholding multilateralism, strengthening dialogue and cooperation, safeguarding the WTO-centered multilateral trade regime, abiding by the UN Charter and basic norms governing international relations, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and promoting the stability and development of all countries.

We hope the U.S. will face up to the widespread concerns and strong call from the international community at the meeting, stop unilateral measures and bullying practices targeting other countries, and stop serving its own hegemony at the cost of other countries’ legitimate interests. The world should not return to the law of the jungle where the strong bully the weak. The U.S. should not go further down the wrong path.

“They had a meeting this morning,” Trump told reporters, declining to say to whom he was referring. “It doesn’t matter who ‘they’ is. We may reveal it later, but they had meetings this morning, and we’ve been meeting with China.”

China on Thursday said it had not held trade talks with Washington despite repeated comments from the US government suggesting there had been engagement.

“China and the United States have not conducted consultations or negotiations on tariffs, let alone reached an agreement,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told reporters at a news briefing, calling reports of such information “fake news”.

4chan the website is unavailable. 4chan the ideology is very much alive. The culture of 4chan has invade every aspect of society. Everywhere you look, wojaks, pepes, the chad/stacy paradigm, the concept of "normies", redpill, etc. The White House posts 4chan memes. The "chad" emoji that everyone uses has blonde hair and blue eyes because a 4channer drew that image to say that the aryan race is superior. The disappearance of the website is like the withering of the state. The ideology does not need to hide within the website anymore because it is all around us. It already served its purpose. To quote Trump, "Everything's computer." And everything is 4chan.

Frogan, Vio, Denims, and Capri are all friends of Hasanabi. I think they're all Leftist. Frogan is a muslim woman and said she hopes that American soldiers get PTSD for helping Israel (based). Vio is comedy twitch stream, but I think with Leftist sympathy. Vio also lives with / is dating Central_Committee (Mike_From_PA on twitter), which is the second largest self-proclaimed socialist news channel on twitch. Denims is a woman on twitch who talks about some Leftism stuff. Capri aka CapriSunnPapi is Palestinian/Lebanese man. Frogan and Capri both have family who live in Lebanon. I think these are actually cool people, not vaushite people.

here's a video where Frogan and Capri talk about their family in Lebanon. They talk about their families being bombed by Israel.

Roe V Wade was overturned before the midterm. This jackass had more than half of his Presidential term to do anything about Roe V Wade. He was the vice president for Obama for 8 years and Obama promised to codify Roe V Wade into law in 2008. The reality is that he doesn't support Roe V Wade or abortion access. He's just lying.

Then, reiterating his position on Roe, he said, “I’ve never been supportive of, you know, ‘It’s my body, I can do what I want with it.’ But I have been supportive of the notion that this is probably the most rational allocation of responsibility that all the major religions have signed on and debated over the last thousand years.”

I was looking at his reddit account yesterday and the posts of the reddit account match the information of the article. Maybe the intent of the article is to smear him. I don't think that him being an anarchist or previously a radical christian devalues his action.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/02/26/israeli-embassy-airman-fire-death-gaza/
https://archive.ph/flTlp

His username on twitch was lillyanarkitty when he streamed himself self-immolating. It was found that he had previously changed the name from "acebush1" using twitch moderator tools. I tried to use the tool and it said I had to buy a subscription. I'm posting the link anyway. If you have a subscription, you can see it. https://twitch-tools.lolarchiver.com/username_changelog?name=lillyanarkitty

The username acebush1 matches his real name. Aaron BUSHnell. AceBUSH1

On instagram, the account for acebush1 has 0 photos, 28 friends, and says "Aaron Bushnell" on the profile page. https://www.instagram.com/acebush1/

On soundcloud, an account called acebush1 uploaded a single audio track 10 years ago. It says like: Hi I'm aaron bushnell welcome to my podcast. https://soundcloud.com/acebush1

Based on all of that information. I believe that this was his reddit account. https://old.reddit.com/user/acebush1/

acebush1 posted in many anarchist subreddits, posted in airforce subreddits, etc.
2-3 years ago he posted about being a radical christian, which aligns with the headline of the article.
He posted about hating Marxist-Leninists a few times.
He has many posts in the airforce subreddit telling people that airforce members should be able to use their airforce healthcare for gender affirming care, ie gender transitioning. Some people on hexbear and twitter were suggesting that he might be interested in transitioning based on the username lillyanarkitty. I don't know.
He has many posts on different fantasy series subreddits, such as LoTR. I'm mentioning this because the WAPO article also says that he loved LOTR.
He also had posts saying that he had read anarchist literature, so he probably didn't become an anarchist from reading memes.

Is the washington post article trying to smear him? maybe. probably yes.

Was Aaron Bushnel an anarchist? based on his twitch username that he streamed himself being named "lillyanarkitty" and his alleged reddit account. I would say he was an anarchist.

Does this devalue his message at all? No. He is correct about Gaza.

edit / It looks like reddit has deleted all his posts or shadowbanned him or something. You can still see the posts on the profile but if you click "permalink" on any of his comments, it says deleted.

I was shooting heroin and reading “The Fountainhead” in the front seat of my privately owned police cruiser when a call came in. I put a quarter in the radio to activate it. It was the chief.

“Bad news, detective. We got a situation.”

“What? Is the mayor trying to ban trans fats again?”

“Worse. Somebody just stole four hundred and forty-seven million dollars’ worth of bitcoins.”

The heroin needle practically fell out of my arm. “What kind of monster would do something like that? Bitcoins are the ultimate currency: virtual, anonymous, stateless. They represent true economic freedom, not subject to arbitrary manipulation by any government. Do we have any leads?”

“Not yet. But mark my words: we’re going to figure out who did this and we’re going to take them down … provided someone pays us a fair market rate to do so.”

“Easy, chief,” I said. “Any rate the market offers is, by definition, fair.”

He laughed. “That’s why you’re the best I got, Lisowski. Now you get out there and find those bitcoins.”

“Don’t worry,” I said. “I’m on it.”

I put a quarter in the siren. Ten minutes later, I was on the scene. It was a normal office building, strangled on all sides by public sidewalks. I hopped over them and went inside.

“Home Depot™ Presents the Police!®” I said, flashing my badge and my gun and a small picture of Ron Paul. “Nobody move unless you want to!” They didn’t.

“Now, which one of you punks is going to pay me to investigate this crime?” No one spoke up.

“Come on,” I said. “Don’t you all understand that the protection of private property is the foundation of all personal liberty?”

It didn’t seem like they did.

“Seriously, guys. Without a strong economic motivator, I’m just going to stand here and not solve this case. Cash is fine, but I prefer being paid in gold bullion or autographed Penn Jillette posters.”

Nothing. These people were stonewalling me. It almost seemed like they didn’t care that a fortune in computer money invented to buy drugs was missing.

I figured I could wait them out. I lit several cigarettes indoors. A pregnant lady coughed, and I told her that secondhand smoke is a myth. Just then, a man in glasses made a break for it.

“Subway™ Eat Fresh and Freeze, Scumbag!®” I yelled.

Too late. He was already out the front door. I went after him.

“Stop right there!” I yelled as I ran. He was faster than me because I always try to avoid stepping on public sidewalks. Our country needs a private-sidewalk voucher system, but, thanks to the incestuous interplay between our corrupt federal government and the public-sidewalk lobby, it will never happen.

I was losing him. “Listen, I’ll pay you to stop!” I yelled. “What would you consider an appropriate price point for stopping? I’ll offer you a thirteenth of an ounce of gold and a gently worn ‘Bob Barr ‘08’ extra-large long-sleeved men’s T-shirt!”

He turned. In his hand was a revolver that the Constitution said he had every right to own. He fired at me and missed. I pulled my own gun, put a quarter in it, and fired back. The bullet lodged in a U.S.P.S. mailbox less than a foot from his head. I shot the mailbox again, on purpose.

“All right, all right!” the man yelled, throwing down his weapon. “I give up, cop! I confess: I took the bitcoins.”

“Why’d you do it?” I asked, as I slapped a pair of Oikos™ Greek Yogurt Presents Handcuffs® on the guy.

“Because I was afraid.”

“Afraid?”

“Afraid of an economic future free from the pernicious meddling of central bankers,” he said. “I’m a central banker.”

I wanted to coldcock the guy. Years ago, a central banker killed my partner. Instead, I shook my head.

“Let this be a message to all your central-banker friends out on the street,” I said. “No matter how many bitcoins you steal, you’ll never take away the dream of an open society based on the principles of personal and economic freedom.”

He nodded, because he knew I was right. Then he swiped his credit card to pay me for arresting him.

The UAW just finished negotiating a new contract with the "Big 3" auto manufacturers: Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis (fka Fiat Chrysler). The contract includes things such as a 25% wage increase for all UAW workers, return of Cost of Living Adjustment, removal of some of the wage tier systems, higher wages for temporary and new workers, bonuses to 401k and pension plans, and the right to strike over plant closures.

The new contract is going to expire on April 30, 2028. Shawn Fain is asking for other unions to prepare for a strike at the same time so that all unions involved will have greater collective bargaining power.

In the longer video Shawn Fain says:

We demanded a longer contract because one of our biggest goals coming out of this historic contract victory is to organize like we've never organized before. When we return to the bargaining table in 2028, it won't just be with the "Big 3" but instead with the "Big 5" or "Big 6".

I believe Shawn Fain is alluding that the UAW is attempting to unionize other car manufacturer companies in the next 5 years.

UAW posted key points of the speech in this twitter thread:
