List more in the comments! I'll add them if they are a community for a video game genre, and have had at least one post in the last month. Crossposted to !games@lemmy.world here.

I also found some genres with dead communities. Maybe someone would like to revive one, or make a new one (preferably on a smaller instance than lemmy.world)?

On my search for communities to put here I found some genres seem to be wholly missing. Let me know if I missed something!

  • MMOs
  • open world/sandbox
  • RPGs that don't really fit in CRPG or JRPG
  • shooters (think FPS, hero shooters, literally any shooting game that does not fit in the shmup/shoot-em-up genre)
  • simulation in general
  • sports
  • stealth

I've previously seen people describe dating a person with ADHD as "Microdosing Wikipedia" and I thought that was a fun idea so I figured I would make a community dedicated to that specifically.

The idea is to post either random or interesting articles you find on any wiki (Doesn't actually have to be wikipedia so a games/fandoms wiki would also be included) and people can discuss the content or the subject of the article.

It's just a small space for people to learn about stuff that they have no reason to learn about otherwise.

This is a no-agenda less moderated climate change community. Moderation power is not abused and mods do not suppress ideas in order to control the narrative.

Obvious spam, uncivil posts, and misinformation are not immune to intervention, but on-topic civil posts are certain to not be subject to censorship (unlike the excessive intervention we see in the other climate community).

Share news and information about climate change without fear of getting banned for pointing out the cow in the room.

Come join us at !cooking_with_fire@feddit.uk

Pictured in the thumbnail is an 'Over The Top Chilli' in its latter stages, an indirect cook, also here:

We also just slap meat on the grill:

but it's not just about meat. Veggies on the grill rule too:

If you or anyone you love deeply, with all your tastebuds, likes to cook over fire then come and join us. We are a small, but welcoming community for people who love to cook over a live flame.

HT to @CheeseToastie@lazysoci.al and threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works for pointing me here!

!trackballs@discuss.tchncs.de

No social media site can exist without a section dedicated to trackballs, the arguably superior input method.

The previous communities went stale, so here is my take on it. Looking forward to welcoming the tens of people interested in this topic!

!gamedev@lemmy.world

Hi all. I took over this community several months ago as the previous owner disappeared (as many do, no judgment.) Now I'm trying to regularly share news that is relevant for both developers and hobbyists. (Studio news, software milestones, talks, interesting columns/posts, etc.) I think I’ve done an okay job, but it’s still pretty low in search results when you search “gamedev Lemmy”, so I'm adding it here in case any of you out there are interested in the field.

I got here from a thread asking for smaller communities trying to replace subreddits, but I'd point out that I used to hang in an IRC chat with some r/gamedev mods, and they were cool. I even made pals with one of them. I just don’t trust Reddit as a company. So this is my way of trying to facilitate a healthy option, and follow the adage of “the grass is greener where you water it”.

So if you’re into video game development and the industry around it, feel free to join!

This community is to find that game you can’t remember. Like it’s on the tip of your tongue.

Do you remember something about a game, but can't find the title? Do you want to finally know what it is? Post here and maybe someone can help.

Come to find your game, or help others find theirs!

Very inspired by r/blooddonors on Reddit. Questions about donations, whether from prospective or current donors, welcome!

If you do not see any content you may need to check on the host instance—I have posted 3 things so far.

We gots a whole mess of different styles like Vidya game art, fancy smancy modern art just for the sake of it, and even some that move!

If you have some favorites in mind that ya wanna share, well we'd like to see those too, just slap 'em up there. Go on, put yer arm into it. There ya go. :)

Alternative direct link for those who may need it.

Here's a list of communities related to conlanging (the art of creating languages) and conworlding (worldbuilding for its own sake rather than for a book or game.) These communities are fairly quiet, since these hobbies are quite niche, but I thought I'd put this out there.

Figured I'd try promoting the community here. It's only been around a few days, but I would love to make this community an active and thriving one.

Ever run acros's something that just annoy's you, like apostrophe's in the wrong place's?

But, you know that it's not worth going off topic for, or bothering someone with when it isn't germaine to the thread. You do know that, right?

Well, now you don't have to fuck up anyone's flow! Just cruise right on over to !petpeeves@sh.itjust.works instead! Make a little post about those rude apostrophe's or whatever, get it out of your system, and go about having a great day on lemmy without interrupting anything!

Think of it as a place for a very specific kind of rant. Just remember to be nice to people, even when they're annoying as hell :)

Cross-postcross-posted from: https://piefed.social/post/598211

!youdontmattergiveup@piefed.social is a community inspired by !dontdeadopeninside@lemmy.ohaa.xyz and !nosafetysmokingfirst@sh.itjust.works.

YDMGU focuses on text that, when read a certain way, produces a positive message (such as "You Matter, Don't Give Up."), but reading it a different way produces the opposite message (such as "You Don't Matter, Give Up.").

Q. This community is just a cheap knockoff!
A. No, it isn't. The other communities focus more on the layout, and less on the text; the posted content is supposed to be read in a certain direction, but visual cues lead most people to naturally read it in a different direction. The resultant message does not have to make sense. Meanwhile, YDMGU focuses more on the content: the two messages must be opposite in meaning to each other.

Q. Ah, so all YDMGU are either DDOI or NSSF, but not all DDOI or NSSF are YDMGU?
A. Not exactly. DDOI and NSSF are very strict with the layout, but less strict with the content. In those formats, the text must be able to be read horizontally and vertically. Meanwhile, a YDMGU is less strict with the layout: text can be read horizontally, vertically, or potentially even in another manner.

Hey everyone, thank you again for participating, and for your submissions!

I'm glad to announce that the voting form is completed, and you can now cast your votes and select your favourite songs. Everyone is welcome to vote, even if your instance or community did not participate! This is a great opportunity to discover new music, cultures, and bridge the lemmyverse together.

The voting form is available here: https://tally.so/r/wvzg8d

I created a playlist so that you can easily listen to the submitted songs, it's available at the following links:

The form will be available until around the 8th of April, I will then collect the results and publish them shortly after. I hope you'll have a lot of fun listening to the 11 songs submitted for this edition. Don't hesitate if you have any question!

Cheers!
