Breaking into the capital, causing physical damage, attacking police officers, stealing U.S. government property. That's defending democracy.

Standing outside a federal detention center where people are being illegally held. That rebellion.

Welcome to trump's America, peace I'd was, slavery is freedom.

Hopefully the protestors can get organized enough to not be crushed. Good luck, stay safe.

[-] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 14 points 11 hours ago

People peacefully assembling to exercise their Constitutional rights, and the guy who planned, led, and launched an actual Insurrection which obviously attacked hundreds of cops wants to claim THAT'S a rebellion.

[-] scathliath@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 13 hours ago

Well, my reading of 10 U.S. Code § 12406 argues that he's full of shit. This is a law written in case of invasion.

[-] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 19 points 12 hours ago

Wow the bourgeoisie is abusing their system of law which they and only they maintain a full monopoly of and theres nothing anyone can do to stop them from deciding it means whatever they want it to mean???

Who could have seen that coming!

[-] jack@hexbear.net 16 points 12 hours ago

Oh shit, send him a letter to let him know!

[-] scathliath@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 hours ago

Only if we go the UHC route for delivery.

[-] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 9 points 12 hours ago

You’re so wrong. Well technically absolutely correct. However since might makes it right… you’re wrong since no one is standing up to stop it.

National protest. Shut down the Interstates. Hit them where it counts. Stocks and cash

Remember when libs kept promising us the military would never use violence against the American people? Remember how they said if a tyrant became president the military would refuse orders to harm fellow Americans?

God it would be funny if there wasn't a literal genocide that needed to be ended first.

[-] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 8 points 10 hours ago

"Remember when libs kept promising us the military would never use violence against the American people? "

Was this before or after the Kent State Massacre?

[-] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 7 points 11 hours ago

That possum comatose thing will stop him for sure! Drumf is finished!

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 8 points 12 hours ago

You're telling me people who join the brown people murder brigade have no scrupules?

[-] jack@hexbear.net 20 points 15 hours ago

We need to do a literal fucking revolution

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 5 points 9 hours ago

Hope the libs will finally realize this.

[-] sudoer777@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 hours ago

No they're telling people to be non-violent and to wave the American flag and not the Mexican flag

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 1 points 16 minutes ago

Yep, figures

[-] Guamer@hexbear.net 20 points 16 hours ago

The irony of the Jan 6 guy doing this lol

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 12 points 15 hours ago

Most honest US politician says unlimited force to protect his elevated position is fine, but the tiniest amount of force protesting that position is illegal terrorism.

[-] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 93 points 20 hours ago

These people are TOAST! If the Wanted to ACTUALLY Peacefully Protest they SHOULD have just BROKEN the CAPITOL WINDOWS, BEATEN CAPITOL POLICE, POOPED ON THE CAPITOL WALLS and USED WEAPONS!

[-] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 12 points 17 hours ago

Maybe even shit on a desk?

Remember! They wouldn't do this if they didn't think they had to - this government action comes from a place of weakness, not strength.

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 14 points 16 hours ago

No it comes from long experience of knowing they will get away with it.

They don't have to, though. There's a vast army of pigs in California. Way more than enough to handle protests of this scale.

They're doing this because they want to.

[-] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 9 points 15 hours ago

Some of the cities are sanctuary cities and the mayors have ordered the local PD to stand down and not join ICE/DHS.

Bringing in the National Guard is a way to circumvent that and get ICE reinforcements without having to do the slow legal confrontations to dismantle what's left of sanctuary cities

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 30 points 20 hours ago

A few protests can be handled by cops, what they're scared of is a repeat of the BLM uprisings. They're trying to get ahead of the problem before it spreads to every city.

[-] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 11 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

BLM spread because of police brutality and overreactions. If they are trying to "get ahead of it" by escalating into extreme violence quickly it will only escalate the protests faster.

The way to "get ahead" of BLM and actually subvert it is to do what Joe Biden and the Democrats did. Coopt the peaceful elements of the movement into the corporate, NGO and DNC controlled sphere, alienate and isolate the radicals, give promises of reforms and then never do anything. Every heavy handed thing the Trump administration did only made the protests in 2020 worse for them and empowered the radicals.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 8 points 14 hours ago

I didn't say it would work, I'm just saying that this is their plan. Make people too afraid to protest.

That's clearly their plan for the anti-genocide protests, after all.

If you choose to go out to help, sharpie the number of a local legal non profit helpline on your arm and leave your phone at home. Bring a sharpie to write the number on others arms. Mask up. Solidarity and safety, my friends.

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 79 points 21 hours ago

OoooooooooK. So, who wants to start a betting pool on which day this week we get martial law? Price is Right rules?

Imma say Tuesday.

[-] fossilesque@mander.xyz 63 points 21 hours ago

This is basically a declaration of it.

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 39 points 21 hours ago

OK, so I'll put you down for Monday?

To me, this looks like yet another sign that the current regime is striving for tyranny. That, in turn, would probably mean civil war, unless US citizens are willing to accept the end of democracy.

At least, that's how it looks to me, a European. Do you feel the same way?

I mean, it's pretty obvious that the US government doesn't care about the law. And then, to top it all off, there's this ridiculous military parade for Drump's birthday ... only someone with dictator ambitions would do something like that.

[-] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 61 points 20 hours ago

Yeah, the LA "riots" where super tame by riot AND LA standards. Like, they didn't even have to bust out the water cannons. A skateboarder tanked some tear gas and flipped them off. It's not like a bunch of people stormed the capitol building or something. This is the flimsiest excuse ever for martial law, so I have to assume it's another step towards tyranny.

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 38 points 20 hours ago

Apparently storming the capitol building is cool with this administration though

The funny consequences about labeling everything as an act of rebellion is that everything suddenly becomes an act of rebellion. The door opens and now we have to deal with rebels everywhere.

ICE cant be everywhere getting everyone because there is a fucking rebellion, so that means there are captured rebels in court, on trail, with jurors ... when the rebels start getting found not guilty by their local courts they are no longer rebels ... what are they? Revolutionists.
