I mean if we could get certain people who are deadset on making the world worse to believe this like the do for every other dumb fucking lie (EG: Vaccines and Autism, Fluoride in tap water, etc) this might be productive.

You don't say!

Personally, I sub out the chlorine for hydrogen and oxygen, which I know are safe because that's what's in water. It also helps keep my soup nice and warm whenever I sprinkle it in.

Eating sodium chloride is kind of insane. It would be like if you took my stuff and poured a bunch of hydrochloric acid on it and then sprinkled that all over your food. Yeah, no thanks.

pure sodium meets saliva

bits of mouth, now spread across the room, catch fire

This sounds like the next thing we should get people riled up with along with the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide.

[-] propter_hog@hexbear.net 5 points 15 hours ago

They put unchlorinated salt in the dang dihydrogen monoxide!

[-] Psaldorn@lemmy.world 38 points 20 hours ago

The pasta would cook itself

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 42 points 19 hours ago

Just don’t put the pasta next to the antipasta.

[-] yozul@beehaw.org 30 points 20 hours ago

Mmm, yes. I too love eating metals that explode when they touch water. Extra spicy. It does more than double the sodium content of your salt though, so watch out for that if you have high blood pressure.

[-] ryannathans@aussie.zone 16 points 20 hours ago

Instead we should be replacing the sodium with chlorine!

[-] LostXOR@fedia.io 4 points 16 hours ago

"This food isn't salty enough" Huffs chlorine "Much better!"

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 7 points 16 hours ago

Na, I don’t think so

[-] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 18 points 20 hours ago

It is kind of funny how, even though I understand how they cancel out, the unification of two very reactive elements makes harmless salt.

[-] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 16 points 18 hours ago

Hydrogen and oxygen are quite reactive as well.

[-] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 9 points 18 hours ago

And both water and salt, while vital to human life, are harmful to others. Water is a powerful solvent, and salt can kill snails.

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 7 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

They're just nearly equally reactive in two opposite directions.

You can absolutely make salts with acidic or alkaline properties by altering this careful balance.

It's like two titans fighting until both are dead and peace roams over the valley. Or, more accurately, relentless robber meeting someone who desperately needs to give something away.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

You just know getting that to happen was the absolute peak crowning achievement of some bureaucrat's career.

[-] MehBlah@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

Naw the army was dumping all kinds of stuff after WWII. They had built up so much material that this would be a unknown rubber stamp action without that film.

[-] Glitterbomb@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

Sorta like the artifical coral reefs the US made out of WWII tanks

Do you want to keep your teeth? How much are you planning on living? I have so many questions.
