There's a girl in my run club like this. I deliberately run hard during the first couple km to wear her down. I ran into her at a work function one time and was going to say Hello, but she was already talking to four people.

AT THE SAME TIME

I don't mean like at one at a time - she was actively holding a conversation with each person while they all spoke over each other. I was bewildered. She might be a witch. But she was having the time of her life.

There are people that I’ve worked with like this. On their cell phone and desk phone plus talking to a person in the office, still able to listen for alerts in the shop. Seriously impressive.

This just proves that we're all NPCs, and she's the main character.

My favorite ex-girlfriend is one. She's genuinely interested in what anyone and everyone has to say, and radiates that enthusiasm.

The oddest thing about it is that even she thinks it's sort of weird and she actually wants to pull back a bit, but she can't. She says it's like a magnet - someone starts talking and she's just irresistably drawn in.

She actually went to see a psychologist about it, and she said that during the session it slowly shifted so that he was doing most of the talking, then at the end, he told her there was nothing wrong with her and that he couldn't see her as a patient any more, then asked her out.

@WatDabney@lemmy.dbzer0.com she's bewitched you too!

Run away!

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I kinda want to date your ex. I need someone like that in my life.

[-] FriendOfDeSoto@startrek.website 8 points 1 month ago

And those folks aren't on here because they already do their socializing in person. A frightful thought.

Add that to the long list of selection biases you see here on Lemmy.

  • techy
  • Linux
  • anti AI
  • Marxist
  • liberal
  • pro queer
  • introvert

What else?

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

.........well god damn.

I'm into tech.

I use linux (though I don't understand it, and it drives me crazy)

I'm literally a mod of fuck_ai

Not a Marxist.

I'd say I'm liberal.

I'm a straight guy, but I'd say I'm pro-queer in the sense that I think they deserve to be happy and treated just like everybody else.

I'm an introvert. hides under covers

Also, I like comic books, model trains, video games, and blowjobs. Is there anybody else on Lemmy like me?

[-] TranquilTurbulence@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

LOL. Looks like you're the right guy for being a mod of fuck_ai.

Does the term "late stage capitalism" sound familiar? You might not be a literal Marxist, but you might agree with some of the ideas.

Some of us are here, too

[-] Beacon@fedia.io 7 points 1 month ago

Have you never had a friend?

[-] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

No friends, but a wife and kids who are cool with me. And I used to have a dog that could tolerate me.

But I'm pretty sure my therapist thinks I'm awful.

[-] Beacon@fedia.io 6 points 1 month ago

Do you like to talk to your wife?

[-] Aurenkin@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

They like.....what....

[-] Maxxie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

I just like talking, who else can I yap to?

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago
[-] Maxxie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago

Did you know ancient greeks called giraffes "camelopards"? Cause they look kinda like a cross between camels and leopards? neat huh

[-] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

That's neat as fuck can you tell me something else?

[-] Maxxie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

there are sea slugs who absorb chloroplast from plants and use it to photosynthesize (convert sunlight into nutrients), it's called "kleptoplasty" how friggin cool is that look at these hungry goobers

[-] Maxxie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

ALSO The North Star is actually three stars! The big one is 5.4 solar masses and 'uuge, a smaller one (1.39) is where our Jupiter is, and there's another one (1.26) waay out there, like 80 times farther than Neptune. All that ~400 light years away from us.

Got funny names too, because in 18th century they discovered the existence of the outer one and called them Polaris A and Polaris B. Only to realize 150 years later "oh crap Polaris A is also two stars, gotta call them AA and AB now"

[-] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Those people should be avoided.

[-] ThisIsNotHim@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 month ago

I'd hazard most people like talking to other people. Even most introverts, although the threshold for how much is enough or too much is lower.

[-] Firoaren@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

🤷‍♂️ Sorry

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

There are very specific people I could talk to for hours.

Every one else can fuck off.

[-] SoupBrick@pawb.social 2 points 1 month ago

An extrovert?

[-] independantiste@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

.. yeah? I love talking to people who match my vibe or people I find funny or people who have interesting stories

[-] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

It appears so.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago
[-] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I like talking to some people. Do you not like talking to anyone? Like even people you care about?

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Ewww. People. 🤢

[-] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world -4 points 1 month ago

Showerthoughts

90 users here now

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
