its simple. the parts i like will be canon; the parts i dont like wont be canon
This is how I approach pretty much anything I'm a fan of because everything is inevitably ruined by capitalism and the endless pursuit of the profit motive. What once was interesting & thought provoking is sanded & smoothed until it's nothing but a corporate pill easily swallowed with a message that inevitably promotes Liberal Capitalism as the One True Answer
I refuse to believe and parlay with the "the TV show is the definitive canon moving forward" fuckheads both at Bethesda and on Reddit.
Power armor shouldn't be able to fly and if you try to tell me that WestTek made three different iterations of Power Armor that for whatever reason can't take a bullet from a pistol to the chest....I don't believe you. It's not even 'haha oh that's a funny joke about war/defense contractors/etc' explanation, the show literally just says 'oh yeah they're all welded like shit in this one spot'???? FO4 already established that the T60 was the entire damn reason the US wasn't overtaken by China during their invasion of Alaska in the latter half of the Sino-American war. Not a single Chinese soldier managed to shoot one of the grunts wearing T60 armor in the chest??? What
I don't even give a fuck about Shady Sands not being where it should be and the whole 'so...the NCR???' cloud that's been looming over the show since they established Shady Sands and whatnot. Don't even care about the Brotherhood's 'Clerics' (ok bro...thematically sure, it works but the Brotherhood literally has like 6 other already established ranks and one of them basically did everything clerics do...) but i swear to god everytime there's a live action series of some long-running series it just stomps around on the lore and AHHH ahhh ahh Fallout 5's gonna be shit but I could've guessed that from 4 and the current state of 76. Woe upon my beloved series.
COLD FUSION
Real ones know that canonicity is a trap for the mind
To allow Bethesda to determine the outcome of a story you had a part in is to allow them to kill a part of you
Do not allow it
kill them back
Metaphorically of course
death to the corporate entity
I'm just so pissed Bethesda ruined fallout lore because at this point, humans have rebuilt civilization in some way already. They have to ignore all that and have everything in a perpetual "several years after the apocalypse" vibe.
it broke my brain so hard my head canon just says there was a total icehouse nuclear winter that encased the whole world in ice for 200 years
but everyone has no idea and ghouls were idk unconscious and it's just a blank spot. so the ice melts and you get a nuclear summer, toxic goo released like in Children of Time, and
radionucleotides become active again and react everywhere because the ice moderator is gone. oh and also every bomb was salted with Americium-241 and other crazy long lasting isotopes
holy shit why the hell did i think so hard about this
I get the sense 200 years is how long it took to recover to a point where nation-states are viable again. Based on in-universe text, the majority of the population died in the opening days of the nuclear exchange and much of the continent was left uninhabitable or ravaged by freak mutant animals that survivors or their aimless descendants couldn't deal with. Not to mention the generational ennui of being the descendants of a civilization that would never be equalled in their lifetimes no matter how hard they tried.
There's thriving settlements again by the time of FO1 which means at least a feudal stage, and the NCR reportedly has industrial manufacturing in some capacity by NV. The Legion only exists because Eddy Sallow rediscovered Rome and implemented a version of it himself.
Because the Fallout setting is cool and the human mind wants things to make a certain degree of sense?
Based off the state of the NCR/BoS in the story I'm inclined to believe a Mr. House ending
I really doubt they'll have a courier ending but Mr house is definitely one of the better written characters and considering the fact they hyped him up it wouldn't make sense for mr house to have been 9 iron'd
Best way to do it would be a Mr House but incompetent ending: Strip families run amok and the freeside holds a lot of power. Platinum chip/securitons get fucked up and Mr houses army isn't as powerful or omnipotent if the bunker factory kept working.
Caesar could make a return I wouldn't mind seeing that either
Just sucks we won't have René to voice act him
its the ending where the female courier tracks benny down in order to sleep with him, lets benny escape to the fort, flirts with benny at the fort, and then kills every legionary at the fort in order to set benny free
username checks out
Remember when one of the Bethesda guys tried to connect lore by saying the MC of 4 was in the opening video of 1 where an unarmed guy gets executed?
Behold the lore and despair!
one of the Bethesda guys
The modern Bethesda writer, Emil Pagliano. He's the lead/only writer on all their most recent games, like Starfield.
This is why the spinoffs managed by different teams, like FO76 and ESO, are much better written than their mainline slop where Todd and Emil pursue their shared unseasoned-mashed-potato vision and create the blandest only-vibes-no-coherent-worldbuilding slop.
And it didn't even work with the timeline.
Looooore
i do remember the memes about you playing in 4 as either a lawyer or a war criminal
Actually a dragon break happened and all the endings are canon
Todd would never be based enough to say this.
What if they reveal none of them are canon because fallout new vegas isnt canon to the show?
that would make every side angry im sure
no i want them to leave my beloved alone and for bethesda to go out of business so somebody competent can make Fallout 5 where the courier gets out of one of those sim pods to reveal fallout 4 didn't happen
its gonna be the boring ass NCR ending.
But you get everyone to help the ncr in exchange for solving none of their problems. ☺️
how would it not be the yes man ending?
It's the siding with Elijah ending
It's the one where you side with the Legion but kill Caesar with a grenade in mid-dialogue, so you still play out the final mission on their side but you're also hostile to both them and the NCR, and the NCR still loses horribly even as you gun down Legionnaires left and right.
That is the most "modern television" ending, by far.
they should canonize the unwritten followers of the apocalypse ending. get john waters to play an aged arcade gannon, and have the show characters meet the theoretical degree guy
lol I know I’m checked out but when did they make a season 1? And which of my playthroughs is it based on?
It's not really based on anything more than the fallout wiki. It's just a boilerplate "vague sci-fi flavoured plot" slapped onto Popular Franchise - actually it's kinda like Star Wars 7 (can't remember the name, don't care).
They've heard of this thing called "lore", and know it gets the line to go up, so they got a guy to add in the maximal lore references and another guy to taze the first one when they start to talk about consistency.
Amazing prop work though, and I liked the actors.
Please be charismatic sunglasses guy
INT 0
STR 10
It's all endings at once and then it was destroyed, the end.
ah, the Daggerfall approach
If ye olde Tumblr was still around to witness this
I refuse to acknowledge this show.
I like Wasteland 3 because you drive what's basically the Spectrum SPV from Captain Scarlet through the snow and the AI Reagan bit is rad.
