he moved to Utah for a fresh start to plow snow

Ah yes. Regular, ordinary career plans.

this is what happens to a generation raised on the simpsons smh

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

As someone who owns a Mr. Plow jacket, this is far too real

[-] happybadger@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

It's good money. With landscapers it pays like $30-50/hr in Colorado, with the state department of transportation it's a proper career and a CDL. I wouldn't be sceptical of that line.

Yeah, someone has to do it, so if someone is doing this willingly then all power to them

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

But there's a maximum of just 4 months a year of work. Are there people who support themselves year-round on those 4 months of main work?

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

My town has a big snow plow station, all the drivers for it are also members of the privately-owned fire department, so they do wildfires during one part of the year and snow during the other.

[-] mufasio@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 week ago

Honestly sounds pretty dope if so.

TBF with the drop in life expectancy millennials are now middle aged in their 30s

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 44 points 1 week ago

just had a moment yesterday where my gf walked on the room and I was just randomly crying because I literally just started thinking about how I'm probably more than halfway through my life

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago

See, I had my midlife crisis early because I grew up in a city where if you weren't white and rich, you were liable to die before 30

Very fun thing to explain to your white guidance counselor

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

Returning to tradition, but the tradition is expelling the Mormons further west every time you move near them

[-] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 37 points 1 week ago

bots and bozos in legacy media comments are bending over backwards to make this one somehow the fault of democrats, liberals, and "the left" which are of course a monolith to them.

the idea that reactionary stochastic violence is primarily coming from right winger crank camps is existentially terrifying to right winger cranks.

[-] Deadend@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago

They liked it when the cranks shot up non-white people. Now the cranks are basically aiming at anything shiny.. and the Crank leadership sole goal is to be shiny and get attention.. they can feel the fandom getting really to do something funny.

To be honest, the second I heard it was a Mormon church, I believed it was going to be some Chud trying to avenge Charlie Kirk

I knew it was sectarianism the minute it hit the news. Because this is what Evangelical Protestants do. It's just rare that they do it to other Protestant sects. Usually what they do is church splits and inciting/enacting religiously motivated violence against non Christians or perceived anti Christian groups. Not attacking each other. But I still assumed it was probably interchurch violence, because that certainly didn't seem farfetched.

[-] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago

Well they're not attacking each other, they're attacking Mormons And as a former friend who was a really devout lutheran told me years ago, "We don't really consider the Mormons Christians."

[-] Sleve_McDichael@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

This is also useful for the Mormon church because it feeds their victim complex. A big part of their founding story is that they were unfairly persecuted by bigots across the US and driven from their “homeland” to Utah.

[-] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

That is, unfortunately, true.

[-] WildWeezing420@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

Yea, it also coincided with the death of their prophet. They gonna be feeling their oats

[-] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

Tbf, I don't consider the Mormons to be Christians either. But, my opinion of the mainstream Religious Right isn't all that much higher than my opinion of the Mormons.

And nothing infuriates both groups involved in a Christian interchurch conflict more, when one or both are a particularly oddball sect, than referring to both groups as just "Protestants" and talking about it the way you'd talk about two different Baptist congregations having a spat over some minor day to day matter rather than a meaningful theological conflict.

[-] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

I think most sects of Christianity, if they understood Mormon beliefs, wouldn't consider them Christian. Especially if you just told them the beliefs and asked if that person is a Christian or not.
