Someone said that when you convince liberals that the reason things are the way they are is entirely and totally caused by the orange man then it is not that surprising that for some of them their solution becomes "kill the orange man".

You don't see marxists or fascists trying to kill Trump because both these wings of politics also understand that killing him will change absolutely nothing. You'll get an aesthetic change. Libs will go back to brunch. Media will change its tune. But fundamentally everything will be the same.

It is only the centrist true believers lenin-dont-laugh that think removing him is the panacea to all things. Much like they think you can do the same with Putin or Xi and magically things will be different. To them everything is done by a single individual and not by systems, organisations and political movements.

Nah fascists definitely believe in great man theory, that's why Pissrael and Trump both open with going after leaders.

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 26 points 4 days ago

the only material advantage to getting rid of trump is that none of the other buffoons can wrangle the cult. the downshot would be that that any replacement wouldn't upset liberals nearly as much so they'd go back to brunch and find a way to get owned in the midterms.

[-] john_brown@hexbear.net 16 points 4 days ago

Trump getting got would be the best thing for the MAGA movement politically, to be fair. There's no more glory for trump's admin in the remaining years, he's going to break the maga coalition apart irreparably if he keeps going. If he gets got he gets a hagiography and hero treatment by his base and all his fuckups will be forgotten.

I've been drinking the kool aid and avoiding discourse for so long that I didn't remember that this is a possible interpretation of the world. Say what you will about my cringe beliefs, but I'm the type of beast that thinks the bore-geo-icy only makes MLK-style concessions when the Black Panthers are the other option.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 32 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Yeah this type of dude just sincerely believes that if Trump dies things will be different instead of just the same monster wearing a different face.

If marxists believed Trump was the problem and getting rid of him would be better then he'd be dead hundreds of times by now. There's been so many opportunities. He's alive because we believe it wouldn't constitute real change.

These radical centrists are sacrificing themselves for this because they sincerely believe it. Their brains are totally cooked by an ideology that you can't even write coherent books about because none of it is coherent.

[-] Tabitha@hexbear.net 12 points 4 days ago

I doubt a Marxist would have an opportunity and just not take it, IMO it's much more likely they're not trying to naruto-run leeroy jenkins everything. You gotta remember that libs don't have 5 year plans.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago

Absolutely brutal takedown of Mamdani

[-] Tabitha@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago

Absolutely not, Mamdani correctly recognized that his mission in life was to reduce Halal prices for me, and that any detours that risked Tabitha not getting cheaper Halal would risk a 1000 year era of darkness for humanity. Cole had better chances than Mamdani, but more importantly, Mamdani had something better to do.

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 90 points 4 days ago

At this point "incoherent politics" is the default assumption for Americans

[-] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 52 points 4 days ago

To be fair, I think his is one of the most coherent politics I've seen so far. Its some sort of hyper liberal, radical centrist.

[-] I_Voxgaard@hexbear.net 87 points 4 days ago

only radical centrists would get worked up enough by Trump to bother assassinating him

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 63 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I think it's some credit to us that 0 marxists were stupid enough to do an adventurism on Trump

[-] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 43 points 4 days ago

A proper Marxist would have the presence of mind to pull an Inglourious Basterds on the entire upper echelon and the Supreme Court simultaneously, and also deploy partisans by train to seize control of Congress. Unfortunately, DC's rail system is not up to the task, so here we are circlejerking about the Romanovs.

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 23 points 4 days ago

So that's why they hate train infrastructure so much...

Yeah we should keep it clean and just punch him in the balls a bunch until he resigns

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 49 points 4 days ago

they're also consistently offered no outlet other than vooting, and adventurist nihilism is what a person turns to when they have given up on any notion of organized resistance.

i've said it a couple times before, but if oil execs start getting capped that's when i'll assume it was a comrade

[-] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 4 days ago

No, that's gonna be either a western anarchist or, gasp, a green

[-] space_comrade@hexbear.net 54 points 4 days ago

When a dem politician becomes President again they won't even pardon him because "decorum" and "rule of law" or some shit, dude ruined his life for absolutely nothing at all.

[-] Nama@hexbear.net 26 points 4 days ago

Of course he won't ever be pardoned.

If the dems get back into power that itself would 'prove' that political violence wasn't neccessary to save the country (from what they will themselves then continue doing while ignoring it over brunch).

[-] jack@hexbear.net 13 points 4 days ago

this dude would be honored to get executed by Kamala Harris

[-] Krem@hexbear.net 68 points 4 days ago

My position on Gaza is nuanced. My position of what's happening to Jews at home is not.

Literalsmuglord face

This is advanced western chauvinism, unheard of and incomprehensible outside international-community-1

[-] nohaybanda@hexbear.net 43 points 4 days ago

The nuance here being “I thirst for the blood of the innocent, but it’s unfashionable to say it outright in my circles.”

[-] Krem@hexbear.net 39 points 4 days ago

100.000 murders, but it's outside of the USA: shrug-outta-hecks

Someone has been insulted and it's in the USA: jokah

Centrists will say voting 3rd party pales in comparison to my strategy of illegal-to-say and then not illegal-to-say.

[-] Wheaties@hexbear.net 62 points 4 days ago

I've seen a whole lot of liberals respond to this just straight up calling it fake, that it was staged by the Trump admin in order to... achieve something? Improve poll numbers, I guess?

It's kinda interesting that, for some chunk of liberals, they're now responding to political news and historical events in the same way MAGA always has: like its a reality television show.

[-] Kumikommunism@hexbear.net 54 points 4 days ago

I've seen a whole lot of liberals respond to this just straight up calling it fake, that it was staged by the Trump admin

Well, that seems to be the prevailing theory among the brightest of Hexbear, so you are correct.

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 26 points 4 days ago

I thought people were just joking, are some people actually seriously saying that this was some kind of "false flag" or something? Just because a would-be assassin is incompetent doesn't make it a false flag. If anything, I would except them to be hyper-competent, like movie levels of competent in a false flag, since they're putting on a show for the public.

[-] Kumikommunism@hexbear.net 24 points 4 days ago

Yeah, every thread on the subject has 2-3 comments near the top saying it. And not in an ironic way.

And out of anything, I think his politics are the biggest indicator it wasn't a false flag. There's no way they are pinning it on a centrist resistance dem who fully supported every aspect of American imperialism. It doesn't help the narrative for a crackdown at all.

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 16 points 4 days ago

I thought most of those were jokes. Oh dear. I think it is normal to have a knee jerk reaction of "false flag" with this sort of stuff, but people really need to just be comfortable with not knowing all the details yet and not forming a strong opinion before more information comes to light.

[-] Kumikommunism@hexbear.net 22 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

There's unfortunately a portion of people here whose worldview is mostly being contrarian, and they just wanna react to things without putting any effort. There's a few things I've been noticing recently that are making me wish the quality of discussion here was a bit higher. I'll just keep complaining about it and hope it gets better lol.

Reminder, this is what he did, the kid who shot Trump in the ear actually did more damage than this bozo

[-] miz@hexbear.net 16 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I have only seen the video where he runs past security, how did he wind up shirtless??

EDIT: best guess from the internet bullshit vortex is that the thumbs removed his clothes to search for additional weapons or explosives

We think this was a psyop on the shooter. This is actually part of a larger psyop to give Adam enough mental damage he crashes out of journalism completely

[-] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 54 points 4 days ago

This is what I meant when I said he was obsessed with Hasan Piker in another thread. It was obsessed in the way an r/neoliberal or noncredible defense poster would be.

[-] quarrk@hexbear.net 49 points 4 days ago

We’re gonna need a :radcent: emoji of this guy’s head pretty soon

Adam stop speaking in twitter-user tense.
