I mean we all knew he was a psycho. Just like that time he killed Oprah with Force Lightning

[-] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 22 points 4 days ago

Yet somehow, Oprah returned.

[-] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 5 points 3 days ago

He struck her down but she became more powerful than he could possibly imagine.

[-] DancingBear@midwest.social 5 points 4 days ago

This is fake news. Tom Cruise never killed Oprah with lightning, he was just tickling her with it.

[-] Thteven@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

She had it coming after the incident with the bees.

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 47 points 4 days ago

If any Scientology member is in any media, it is on my "do not watch" list. I will never support that cult financially. And by the way, where is Shelley? She was last seen 2007 at her fathers funeral, and the police doesn't do shit.

Debbie Stovelman, however, is alive and well. Boom boom!

WDYM WTF? I once tried to commit suicide by shooting myself in the chest 3x. I was still alive so I ate some concrete, grabbed a different gun and shot myself in the head.

[-] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 4 days ago

Yeah this is like the old joke where a black dude was found in a ditch with 17 stabs in the back, and police determined it was a suicide

[-] ITGuyLevi@programming.dev 2 points 3 days ago

Or the guy that suicided himself in his apartment in London, thankfully he was considerate enough to wipe his phone and lock himself in a suitcase in the bathtub after though.

[-] FreshLight@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 days ago

Glad you survived that.

I believe she is the wife of the current leader of the church.

[-] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 17 points 4 days ago

Oh, yeah, she'sdead

[-] naught@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 days ago
[-] ferrule@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

I've always thought how ridiculously on the nose it was for her to star in a TV show where she was breaking out of a religious cult...and that she was in one IRL. Especially that her IRL cult has been linked to murders, silencing witnesses, and a miriad of other illegal acts. She just swapped roles apparently.

He also sucks the life out of nearly every role he's cast in (the one pictured above being a rare exception.) The guy is a walking void of charisma, and I avoid his movies due to the simple fact that they're made worse by his involvement.

[-] merde@sh.itjust.works 31 points 4 days ago

Edge of tomorrow - he is fine in that perfect movie
Tropic Thunder - he is hilarious
rain man
the last samurai
minority report
magnolia - perfect fit for the role

[-] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 4 days ago

He's great in Collateral. He plays great villains.

[-] TheBrideWoreCrimson@sopuli.xyz 13 points 4 days ago

"Vanilla Sky", and his acting in it, is plain fantastic, I have to hand it to him.

You should read "all you need is kill". Edge of tomorrow butchered the book. The same happens with Minority Report.

[-] davidagain@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

No one makes Philip K Dick movies that are true to the book, but they often make interesting movies inspired by the book.

[-] ferrule@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It always bugs me when they make one of his books into a movie because there never is a reason to cut the important parts out. I would understand if the books were long, or had concepts that are too difficult to bring to the screen. Instead its cut because no one wants movies you have to think about.

[-] davidagain@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

You're right there - too complex, too much thinking, a bit weird.

[-] ferrule@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

The one silver lining I guess is that when people say "you really should read the book" with PKD stories they end up being so different that they really feal like a different story. They tend to not have the Green Lantern Effect where the movie ruins the original story for you.

[-] davidagain@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah, spoilers don't quite work because he is always so out there! They took some little different thing and ran with that instead of the full crazy. I feel like Terry Gilliam would have made good PKD movies. He gets insanity.

[-] ChillCapybara@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 days ago

Reacher - is a big scary man but the movie tries to hide that from you bc Tom is small and it’s funny.

If you manage to get your hands on the Playboy PDF full dump, the articles contain stuff very similar OPs quote.

Not sure about old timer Playboy's but the mid to late 2000s have quite a few incredible articles. Lots of them are future predictions by various in the know type individuals. I notice some articles and or "write ups" had zero editorial oversight. None. It makes for some refreshingly honest opinions. No holds bar essentially. Some of the tech predictions are mind blowing.

The "nudy pics" are an annoyance. Given today's pron desensititation, the air brushed titties and mia bushed out vaginas are weak af, not to mention the lack of "moving pictures". I just scroll past them along with the ads until I reach another article section.

[-] Unstoppable_Flop@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago

I also only "read' Playboy for the articles

[-] AnalogRegression@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I wish I could get a bunch of these printed out, it's hard on my eyes attempting to read on these goddamn black mirrors.

[-] FinishingDutch@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

People know the ‘I only read Playboy for the articles’ joke but it’s genuinely why the magazine lasted as long as it has. Playboy certainly wasn’t the only one doing nude photography nor was it the most extreme.

But the magazine has had some genuinely great writers over the years. Notable ones like Roald Dahl, Jack Kerouac, Ian Fleming, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Hunter S. Thompson and a whole slew of journalists and columnists who went on to write great stuff.

Playboy tended to give their writers a lot of freedom and published things others wouldn’t. After all, if you’re already controversial, you might as well publish controversial writing.

This is one of the Mandela effect things, where the correct title (well, right now, in this universe) is the vampire. Where does this image come from?!

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 8 points 4 days ago

Whenever you see or hear about a Mandela Effect thing like this it’s important to remember that 50% of people are of below average intelligence.

[-] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Shit, I remember it being 50% of people are above average intelligence. Guess I got split into the stupid reality :(

Even if it's real, it could just be a typo and editorial oversight.
