He's always been this based honestly. Before Twitter you could find his official account on hip hop message boards block-of-texting mfs about Tiananmen

tbh i'm always afraid of scratching the surface of anyone in hollywood that seems based at first because i'm always disappointed

but every time i accidentally learn something about Boots Riley i'm always so impressed

Boots is the parenti of hip hop - an open communist public figure standing out in the rain railing against the end of history, all while somehow having only good takes.

Honestly he's even better than Parenti, who said some (minor) questionable things that didn't age great.

Woah he's like super based

Went to high school with some Ethiopian Jews, they stayed in Israel for a while but had a lot of issues with discrimination and constantly having that part of their identity questioned,

[-] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 42 points 1 year ago

That really is the difference isn't it?

We have principles, we stand by them and we do not respect those who stand against us

[-] muddi@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

And that is exactly why they are terrified of us

Play on words?

[-] axont@hexbear.net 49 points 1 year ago

probably shouldn't give Israel the ability to extradite him and put him in jail for political crimes or whatever

[-] DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube 21 points 1 year ago

Isn't military service compulsory there? In which case, he most certainly should not.

I took a couple of friends of mine, a married couple of marvel-pilled turbo libs, to see "Sorry to Bother You" as they were constantly pressing me about my worldview. After it was over I got hit with a one-two of "It was incoherent" and "I think you're reading to much into it" and it hurt me deep. deeper-sadness

[-] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago

He's the modern Dalton Trumbo

[-] Hohsia@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

What has prevented him from being merked?

Probably not being a huge celebrity, right?

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago

he's an artist. nothing scary about an artist.

[-] Coca_Cola_but_Commie@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Isn’t there a Vonnegut quote about artists not mattering when faced with state power?

Found it:

Every respectable artist in this country was against the war. It was like a laser beam. We were all aimed in the same direction. The power of this weapon turned out to be that of a custard pie dropped from a stepladder six feet high

I always think about Norm Macdonald saying "oh, you know, everyone says comedy is important, comedy takes down bad people. but, you know, in weimar germany, nazi germany, there were politcal cartoons saying hitler was bad and the nazis were bad, and it didn't acheive a whole lot."
