Imagine being bored to tears as a guard, then seeing this just pop up and be left with zero explanation.

"Sir, I saw a... a..."
I swear to god if one more private brings up UFOs...
"..a screaming skeleton that teleported."

[-] SnipingNinja@slrpnk.net 7 points 11 months ago

Vanished*, you can't be sure it teleported or just became invisible or stopped existing.

[-] tetris11@lemmy.ml 5 points 11 months ago

"..thank... thank you for the clarification sir, I feel much better..."

Fun fact: The Watchmen was the first comic book to use Comic Sans

Fun fact edit: I lied.

[-] PapaStevesy@midwest.social 64 points 11 months ago

Watchmen came out almost a decade before Comic Sans existed, it was hand-lettered by Dave Gibbons. In fact, it directly inspired the creation of Comic Sans according to Wikipedia.

[-] Clusterfck@lemmy.sdf.org 39 points 11 months ago

Holy shit I’m an idiot.

I just realized it’s comic as in books and not comic as in funny.

[-] thanks_shakey_snake@lemmy.ca 29 points 11 months ago

You're not an idiot-- That distinction isn't discernable from the name per se, that information is concealed within some relatively obscure typography lore!

Consider this quote from Wikipedia:

Although many people believe that the "Comic" in Comic Sans refers to the lettering common for comic books at the time, font designer Brian Richardson revealed that this was not the case: While speaking on a panel at the 1999 Microsoft DesignTalks conference for designers, he said "We just wanted to make something fun, that people could use to inject a little bit of humor into their documents. It was actually called 'Funny Sans Serif' during development, but Pat convinced me last minute to change it to "Comic Sans" so that it would appear higher in the font picker."

Now, Wikipedia doesn't tell you that because I just made it up, but it would be totally plausible! Then some of us would be talking about how we thought it was about comic books. So you're not an idiot, IMO.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 22 points 11 months ago

Bravo, the bit about changing the name so it would appear higher up in the list lent this a lot of credibility indeed.

[-] Risk@feddit.uk 8 points 11 months ago

I'm drunk and don't know what to believe.

[-] Artyom@lemm.ee 5 points 11 months ago

All typography lore is obscure.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I thought it was from comics as in newspaper comics, which are usually funny and used to be referred to sometimes as “the funnies.”

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 24 points 11 months ago

Between this and the circulatory system one, I am feeling like they are from the same story and now I am curious wtf is going on in that world. What comic book is this from?

[-] LilB0kChoy@lemm.ee 40 points 11 months ago

It’s the story of Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen.

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 5 points 11 months ago

Ahh... Is the book better than movie? I've tried watching the movie like 8 times; I have fallen asleep at the same part every single time. :/

[-] Rolando@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago

The graphic novel was revolutionary when it came out in the late 80s. For a comic book it's still extremely good, if you like character-based stories.

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world -1 points 11 months ago

Character-based stories as opposed to?

[-] hydrospanner@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

Oil based, or latex.

[-] ASeriesOfPoorChoices@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Plot / story based.

[-] SnipingNinja@slrpnk.net 4 points 11 months ago

Some stories are about the interplay of characters, others are about a theme or an event. All the things exist in every story, but what the story is written with focus on is what is used as descriptive

[-] UnspecificGravity@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 11 months ago

Substantially better. It actually has a theme and internal morality that makes sense.

Zack Snyder has a real talent for totally abandoning the actual meaning of comics in favor of capturing an aesthetic and this is no exception.

[-] Motzart@lemm.ee 13 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Yeah, but the aesthetics though 👌👌👌. I remember watching Watchmen at the theater and thinking these scenes are straight out of the comic panel. Love both of them.

Edit: who watches the watchmen? Me, its me.

[-] Organichedgehog@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Lol yea the aesthetic is pretty perfect

[-] Mr_Reach@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago

Funny enough, the movie has a better fitting ending while the comic has better story pacing.

[-] LilB0kChoy@lemm.ee 10 points 11 months ago

I hated the movie ending which is why I know it was so good. It ended in a way that was unsatisfying to me and I feel like that’s important to the story.

[-] ASeriesOfPoorChoices@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

That's both hilarious and completely understandable.

[-] BaardFigur@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

I actually loved the movie

[-] Motzart@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago

Which part do you fall asleep at?

[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I'd suggest watching the hbo series then going back and watching the movie.

[-] SnipingNinja@slrpnk.net 1 points 11 months ago
[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Oh, I just really liked the hbo series so that when I went back to watch the movie I was able to pay attention.

[-] jopepa@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago

On the first day of Partially Muscled Screaming Skeleton Day my Partially Muscled Skeleton screamed to me, “I hate this and should never be!”

[-] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago

I love this calendar

[-] Getawombatupya@aussie.zone 14 points 11 months ago

How can it scream? Would just be sitting there with it's mouth open.

You could teabag it.

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 12 points 11 months ago

I ain't putting my balls in a skeleton's mouth that still has muscles. What if the jaw shuts?

[-] hydrospanner@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Muscles...and teeth.

[-] mrbaby@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

What if the jaw shuts?

There's only one way to find out!

[-] floofloof@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah just regular corpses for me thanks.

[-] ASeriesOfPoorChoices@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

How can it appear and then disappear?

How can it exist at all points of its life at the same time instead of chronologically?

[-] zzzz@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago

What a great graphic novel.

[-] dauerstaender@feddit.de 8 points 11 months ago

Nothing unusual at the perimeter.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 5 points 11 months ago

Ummm .... what kind of decorations should I be putting up? Is there a playlist of songs I could put on?

[-] HenryWong327@lemmy.ml 3 points 11 months ago
[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 months ago

I've been on my phone a lot lately and haven't had time to look or listen to this link .... what the hell ... I'm both amazed shocked and confused ... imagine if all digital information was lost in the future and the only information left was this video.
