G*mers: We're not racists. You're actually the racist for making Yasuke who was black, black.

"Yasuke, depicted as a black man"

depicted as a black man

jesse-wtf

[-] WideningGyro@hexbear.net 15 points 5 months ago

Whatever site that is really knows their audience. Not only is Yasuke, famously a real human being who actually lived and was black, "originally depicted as a black man", the mod also apparently turns him into an "authentic Japanese character". Which is apparently a more fitting description for whatever generic Japanese dude the modders think up than an actual historical figure. Christ.

Yeah that and

into an authentic Japanese character

are both pretty fucked up

What in the fuck is authentic about turning a black guy asian?

joyce-messier — "According to our survey across various platforms, it was revealed that certain modders are actively developing a means to transform Yasuke, originally depicted as a Black man in the latest Assassin's Creed installment set in Japan, into an authentic Japanese character."

de-reaction-speed [Trivial: Success] — The run-on chaff breezes past you, leaving only the core conceit. "Depicted as". Changing him "into an authentic Japanese character."

de-conceptualization — Certainly takes far less imagination to view a Black samurai as a Black samurai than the tone of this article would suggest.

de-volition [Challenging: Success] — I need you to not listen to what your instincts are about to tell you. Ignore them and walk away from this. Close the tab, close the article. It isn't worth your time.

de-half-light — Pull your gun.

[-] SerLava@hexbear.net 12 points 5 months ago

[-] polskilumalo@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 5 months ago

:peltier-laugh: I think I gotta hand it to him

[-] wtypstanaccount04@hexbear.net 20 points 5 months ago

But he was a Japanese man! He lived in Japan for years and years!

You can't expect those neckbeards that haven't touched grass in a century to understand that ethnicity is independent from citizenship.

[-] Deadend@hexbear.net 19 points 5 months ago

They weren’t mad about the white guy or Yasuke in Nioh.

This screenshot is fake, btw, it's not a real article on PC Gamer. It was apparently made by someone from KotakuInAction.

[-] SerLava@hexbear.net 10 points 5 months ago

Ubisoft, hit these people with an account wide ban so I can have a pleasant game of Rainbow Six

[-] Dolores@hexbear.net 2 points 5 months ago

be pretty funny when the plot and characters bring attention to the fact yasuke is black and then some dead-eyed worse rigged background samurai model they subbed in for him stares back

its been a long long time since i played AC but it was never very mod friendly, the closest i ever saw to replacement of characters was replacing the model with an existing one ingame, which will break customization, cutscenes and more.
