YOU DON'T HAVE TO SUSTAIN IT WHEN YOU ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSES, AND THEY GO AWAY.

They can't understand that because they believe the dirty poor are genetically determined to be poor

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

It also pays for itself pretty much immediately. One person back on their feet and being productive covers the investment in like a month tops

Wait, I just had an idea for the first time ever that no one has ever thought of: what if bright but underprivileged minds were able to find access to education instead of being priced out of it? They might make something really cool! very-smart

And if not, they can now do more technical stuff. Either way, things are coming up Milhouse.

As bad as these articles are, they truly brighten my day by reminding me that there are still a few places on our planet where the people are the priority and that the existence of these places makes the ruling class very very scared.

The article is almost 4 years old, and its contents are about what you'd expect, lol blob-sleep

Despite the challenges, the poverty relief program may have a long-term political benefit that helps to ensure some of it survives. Gratitude for the program seems to be reinforcing the political power of the party in rural areas.

In Youfang, Mr. Zhang was quick to praise not just the poverty program but also Mr. Xi, comparing him to Mao.

I love the open incredulity that the government would do things to help people and that being popular as a result is the entire point rather than some nebulous cronyism.

"They only pretend to love the government because of 10 billion secret police monitoring them"

It's more expensive than simply forcing kids to pledge allegiance every day and simply telling them they live in the greatest country in the world in every form of media.

And because it's more expensive, it's bad

Government bureaucrats shouldn't approach governance materialistically, where they put forward programs that help the people and in return the people show support for the government. A sort of mutualistic relationship between government and citizen. No, they must operate under ideas that mean whatever the people in charge want them to mean and expect the people to fall in lines with their choices because its the right thing to do.

NY Times is fighting the war on poverty on the side of poverty

[-] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 53 points 2 months ago

The US also spent heavily. I assume that was also to help its poorest citizens, right?

Help them to die by police violence domestically and under missile fire abroad.

If we transfer all the wealth to the top maybe some trickles down, allowing more to be transferred to the top

Building cities to house the rural poor dean-frown

Building cities for cops to practice killing you dean-malice

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 53 points 2 months ago

Sweetie, the role of government is to kill poor people, not help them how-much-could-it-cost

Western eKKKonomists in shambles after 1 billion lifted out of poverty in China

[-] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 40 points 2 months ago

Ah yes, because we can't just say farewell to British science of the 1800s that said we need to kill all the poor and disabled people

[-] Tachanka@hexbear.net 37 points 2 months ago

Editorial boards are one trick ponies.

[country] did good thing, but at what cost?

[country] did bad thing, and that's a good thing!

Anyway the New YorKKK KKKrime$ has been an enemy to humanity for over 150 years.

"The best thing for the North to do is to stop talking about it"

Hey, the same thing people say today in regards to people trying to fight racism.

I can't believe that China is pouring so much into helping the poor.

[-] P1d40n3@hexbear.net 33 points 2 months ago

Sure they hate poverty...but that doesn't mean they hate the poor! Just the lazy!

[-] Sickos@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago
