AI is part of the reason games are not great, as well as overworked devs forced to rush games, crypto, microtransactions, 100 GB day one patches, etc. Games will be great if they are treated as art again. Every time I see an emulated PS2 game or before, I'm just astonished with how polished they are. Even the quirky games were fun. (Almost) everything was built with passion. Plus games were shorter and easier to beat for busy people.

If you remember Unity pretty much became associated with crap made by either students or grifters. But rather than a meaningful change or significantly lasting backlash what actualy happened in the end is Unity got a sizeable(majority at some point?) part of the market anyway and I doubt most people even remember or care your making a Unity game anymore.

Its true indie games are also of far higher quality too which is kind of the point. As long as Gamers get their slop and there are enough significant outliers to redeem the industry than all sins will be pushed under the carpet.
