A cousin and I have been competing for years to see how many times around we can go before we either stymie another driver or get pulled over.

I'm currently winning at 43. Neither of us have ever been pulled over, it's always some irate grandma who refuses to enter even though I give her plenty of room.

A dew days ago ist saw an older Dude in a Bike, taking all the left turns in one of our roundabout. (Germany) I know that he rode for at least 3 hours. He wanted to reach 200 rounds, i think. Hope he made it.

[-] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 1 day ago

in germany driving around pointlessly is illegal i think

[-] Tiefkuehlkost@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago

It is, but you have to do something really abstract, like this meme, to not be able to come up with some excuse that nobody cares to verify.

[-] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 3 points 18 hours ago

I wonder if it came about in the times when fuel was very expensive. A German physio I used to go to, told me when he was a kid they would have car free Sunday. Everyone walked or biked and the roads were full of pedestrians, it certainly would have cut 1/7th of the fuel usage.

[-] Kushan@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

I'm in the UK, they force you to turn right.

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

Well that explains the Liberal party

[-] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 80 points 2 days ago

fwiw, I personally know for a fact that 15 to 20 minutes is fine. Ask me about other ironically bad first date ideas

[-] StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 30 points 2 days ago

Dont feel bad, my first date with my fiancée was at a grocery store

[-] Uli@sopuli.xyz 38 points 2 days ago

No way that's where I had my first prune

[-] gandalf_der_12te@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 18 hours ago

explanation? what is a prune?

[-] Uli@sopuli.xyz 4 points 18 hours ago

A prune is a dried plum. And a date is the (often dried) fruit of the date palm tree.

This joke explanation brought to you by fiber. It's good for you!

[-] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

I almost died on the toilet because of this comment.

[-] iii@mander.xyz 25 points 2 days ago

How about other ironically bad first date ideas?

[-] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

One of my personal faves: Told this girl in college that we were gonna go to a place called Donnie's steakhouse. She got somewhat dressed up for the occasion. Donnie's is just McDonalds. If they've got a good sense of humor (and she did), they'll get a good kick out of it. Although it may take a day or two.

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 94 points 2 days ago

I feel like if a cop came by a few times and saw you still going around they would probably pull you over just to see if you're having an episode or something, then probably tell you to go home. I think you'd only really get in trouble if you were a dick about it.

[-] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 5 points 18 hours ago

Imagine a lights and sirens pursuit around a roundabout.

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

I will, as long as I can imagine it set to the tune of Yakety Sax

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

I definitely think they could get you for endangering others, or something like that. I don't think it's explicitly illegal, but I'd be surprised if it isn't implicitly illegal.

[-] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 66 points 2 days ago

Driving? You're fine.

Drifting? You'll get yer peepee whacked.

[-] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 21 points 2 days ago

Drifting it is

[-] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Theres probably easier ways to get your peepee whacked...

If you confuse and distract other drivers, that's endangering traffic and police will remove you.

[-] 4vr@lemmy.ca 44 points 2 days ago

Now I wanted to know the answer.

What happens if a self driving car has a glitch and get stuck infinitely in an round about ?

[-] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 23 points 2 days ago

Prob’ly towed. Self driving cars can’t recognize police. There are several videos of robotaxis horrifically malfunctioning and police can’t do much other than box them in and call the company to have them remotely shut off and towed.

[-] acidbattery@lemm.ee 8 points 2 days ago

You get stuck in vehicular purgatory.

[-] PostProcess@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago

I believe the UK has a law for this and it's 7 times.

[-] gedhrel@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

There's no such law in the UK.

[-] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 days ago

Norway here. I'm sure I've heard 7 somewhere too.

[-] crusty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

I don't think there's a specific rule but if you obstruct traffic unnecessarily you're breaking veitrafikkloven §3

"Everyone must travel with consideration and be alert and cautious so that no danger arises or damage is caused and so that other traffic is not unnecessarily obstructed or disturbed."

American here, although I have no clue 7 sounds fine so we're calling it. Get on with it.

[-] FelixCress@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

American here

Too complicated for you.

[-] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 15 points 1 day ago

Even the word roundabout is too complicated... My GPS refers to them as "traffic circles".

[-] uawarebrah@sh.itjust.works 32 points 2 days ago

Basically Nascar tbh

[-] mriswith@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Despite what many people think/have heard, most places do not have a specific law against doing loops in a roundabout. And when they do it is often a local ordinace(mostly small towns trying to prevent a local car community from driving up and down the main street all night). Although other laws or regulations can apply depending on circumstances.

Things like impeding/obstructing traffic, careless/reckless driving, noise ordinance, etc. But if you're driving around one in an industrial area at night, the worst you'll get is probably some accusing questions and a "warning".

[-] davidagain@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Look kids! Big Ben! Parliament!

[-] morrowind@lemmy.ml 20 points 2 days ago

I remember someone tested this. They lasted like eight hours until some neighbor called a cop

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago

Snitches get stitches.
