Hahaha a four panel meme, "is this...." Wait.... It is....

[-] abbadon420@lemm.ee 11 points 2 months ago

I think I'm gonna cry

[-] josefo@leminal.space 5 points 2 months ago

Oh, I was thinking it was some kind of political compass, but yeah

This one is really flying over my head. What is the joke?

I... Still don't get it. Who are the guys waving and how does that relate to the comic?

[-] xx3rawr@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Their arms follows this format:

||  ||
||  |_

therefore it is Loss.

I see an imposter in frame 1

[-] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Wild. Thanks for the explanation.

The pope-arms follow the people-orientation in the original comic. I'm imagining the evolution of this meta meme and how twisted it must've been. It's like The Game but darker.

[-] DerisionConsulting@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 months ago

Someone else already said it's popes, as for how it relates to the comic, it's the arms.

Frame 1 = 1 arm up
Frame 2 = 2 arms up, one higher than the other
Frame 3 = 2 arms up, the same height
Frame 4 = 1 vertical arm, one horizontal arm.

The guys waving are most recent four popes. I have no idea how it relates to the comic, but other people in this thread seem to perceive a strong connection.

[-] DerisionConsulting@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago

The position of the arms matches the position of the people in Loss.

[-] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

I see it now, but.... Maybe there's a specific meme subculture that I just missed somehow. I think if there were a meta here that I was familiar with, I'd see it as funny. But, this is all new to me so it's just /shrug.

For the content that got me to understand it, it was the one with the original, but then the lines right next to it.

What an age we live in.

[-] mrbubblesort@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

I'm at a loss for how ingenious this is

[-] digger@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 months ago

Wait... Is this detrimentum?

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I think it's relinquish.

[-] dumbass@leminal.space 10 points 2 months ago

[-] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Well played

[-] FourWaveforms@lemm.ee 7 points 2 months ago

was going to ask "is this loss" without recognizing it as such but I can see I'm late again

[-] virku@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Anybody want to clue in us who don't get it?

[-] MNByChoice@midwest.social 6 points 2 months ago

The arm positions are in the positions of "loss", the highly memed comic that gets simplified to one or two lines per panel.

[-] virku@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Ah,Thanks! Never really picked up on that meme.

[-] Noerknhar@feddit.org 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I don't get it.

Edit: I do now. Holy shit.

[-] manucode@infosec.pub 2 points 2 months ago
[-] Pringles@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

I still don't get it at all, tbh.

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

[-] deo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

It's never too late; you're one of today's lucky 10,000!

[-] Tartas1995@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 months ago

I am lacking the artistic vision to make this and without the comments, I wouldn't have caught on.

I am impressed.

[-] altphoto@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

Was there a pope before these popes? Were there cameras for that?

[-] Tungsten5@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

As they say, ‘pic or it didn’t happen’

[-] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago
[-] Birch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago
