Across the country, 10 people have died in ICE custody since January.

I think at this point we can characterize it as killing. ICE is killing people.

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 15 points 2 weeks ago

Killing people in their death camps, too.

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 7 points 2 weeks ago

We are all being killed on this glorious day.

[-] Alaknar@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

While I hate what's happening in the US right now as much as the next guy, let's not over-inflate the language used. It doesn't help anybody.

If we start calling what's currently there "ICE death camps" because 10 old people died across the whole country, people will get jaded, will start ignoring the cries for help as alarmist. And THEN the actual death camps will show up, but by that time nobody will be paying attention.

Exactly as it happened with Gaza.

[-] Goodmorningsunshine@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

The United States government is killing citizens and residents it deems undesirable. ICE is just the bullet.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 2 weeks ago

Before that it was DHS, FBI, various police sheriff's departments. It's just escalating and will continue to do so.

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

How many do you think have died in the El Salvadorean gulag

[-] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

the complete silence about everyone else who was deported there is the scariest fact.

the media just forgot about them, they latched on one person and the rest are forgotten. they will likely never see the lights of day.

[-] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

Because they're invisible now.

We sent reporters over there and now those reporters are threatened against speaking up.

[-] jsomae@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

Out of curiosity, if they weren't mistreating people, what would the expected number of deaths be given the total number of people-days of detention since January?

Without process, kidnapped in the streets, courtrooms and homes to be killed in detention. How can you accept this from your own country? The USA needs a revolution

Edit: I am very happy and would never consider suicide

[-] SARGE@startrek.website 13 points 2 weeks ago

It's been so great the last 10 years saying "this is what will be happening because the neo-nazis are taking over" and everyone telling me I'm overreacting, I'm being hyperbolic, I'm exaggerating or my favorite "you're just being dramatic"

Remember, THERE'S NO WAY they'd overturn Roe v Wade.

[-] Dasus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's really a very small consolation that one can now actually go "fucking told you so."

[-] peteyestee@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The crazy people were/are right.

This isn't a post making calling you crazy...

...The crazy people are actually right. Knowing parts of the truth makes them crazy.

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Remember those FEMA camps the right wing were going on about? Projection.

[-] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

No, he didn’t just magically and coincidentally “die”.

This was murder. We must never forget what is happening right now and we must never forgive any accomplice. Someday, they will be held accountable. Never forgive or forget the terror, slavery, torture, deprivation of human rights, and murder enacted by this administration and its accomplices.

[-] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

two possibilities, both likely (at the same time).

a) Ice does not provide basic necessities to live, like food/water/restrooms/access to emergency healthcare... and people will die.

b) there are so many people detained that it is statistically likely people will die of natural causes (you dont become immortal just because you're detained.

most likely both of those options at the same time.

[-] whostosay@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

They don't have that many yet. They have less than most major colleges I'm pretty sure.

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

more thoughts and prayers? they'll certainly work this time

[-] Lembot_0004@discuss.online 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Hey, less scepticism more thinking and praying! ICE won't "be held accountable" by themselves!

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I rather see more thinking and acting from my American friends

[-] Karrion409@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

The sad thing is I don't think it will be the USA putting them to trial. It'll be other nations that are picking through the rubble or individual governments after the united states balkanizes. Maybe I'm too pessimistic about things but I just don't see a way we get out of this whole.

[-] Assassassin@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

Jesus christ, if this is what's making it to the news, imagine what is being covered up.

[-] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

There are children and adults fighting for water in one of the detention. So yeah.

[-] space@leminal.space 10 points 2 weeks ago

The entire thing is so sad

Republicans call him a criminal. Crossing the border has a criminal act, so that’s all they need for justification.

[-] k0e3@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 weeks ago

Don't they have a criminal as a president?

[-] Soulg@ani.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Doesn't count cuz it's fake obviously.

No that's literally the thought process.

[-] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

“Criminal” in the same way as jaywalking.

[-] Soulg@ani.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's not even criminal, it's a misdemeanor

[-] happydoors@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Can the journalists please headline home as “American”, not leading off with a place he lived over half a century ago?

Was he one of the Cubans mad that his family lost their slaves and plantations? And voted for Trump?

[-] Catoblepas@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

Would that make it okay for ICE to abduct him without due process and kill him?

Keep in mind you’re talking about someone who came to the US as a 15 year old child.

[-] masterbaexunn@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Nobody deserves that.

That said, cubans overwhelmingly support the old orange doofus.

Disfruta lo votado.
