15 years ago they were creating pseudo-Trotskyist subplots about how the Templars invented capitalism to dominate the world, the culmination of which was the Bretton Woods Conference

Alongside outright stating the Templars overthrew the Soviet Union and the Bush admin purposely started the Iraq War for the sake of making work for contractors

Wtf happened to that Ubisoft lmao

[-] plinky@hexbear.net 50 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

bruh imagine trotkyite assasins creed in ussr under stalin, it could go so fucking mental, first you are doing your job fighting porkies-templars in the 20s, then duplicitious stalin betrays revolution™, so you hunt red comissars (with tears on your eyes), but then nazi invasion happens and you fight templars again

kitty-birthday-sad

or you could go anarchist route via kronstadt-lenin-kirov and still arrive at besieged leningrad

p.s. they even have good cities, compared to wasteland of ac3:wooden huts doggirl-cry

[-] LangleyDominos@hexbear.net 68 points 5 months ago

They would have made John Brown a Templar and forced you to not to lower yourself to the level of slavers by killing them.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 13 points 5 months ago

Isn't killing people literally everything you do in AC games though? How would you even make an AC game that opposes killing people?

I honestly can't believe Ubisoft would've made a game like this even without Trump in office without somehow both-sidesing it by making half the KKK black or something

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 50 points 5 months ago

They'd have Frederick Douglass lecture you about how violence isn't the answer and you're just making the KKK attack more black folks.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 38 points 5 months ago

yeah that's way too much "something to say" for ubisoft considering how far cry 5 was

[-] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 27 points 5 months ago

Meanwhile on reddit-logo when someone pointed out the same thing about FC5 in relation to this cancellation

No, that's a good thing. FC5 did a great job of making fictional extremists that wasn't one sided. A hippy drug addled religious zealot. If they tried to take a stand either way it would be worse. Doing a civil war AC would just need to be accurate and not try to act like a poor modernization to mirror a political opinion.

"accurate" dean-frown

[-] Waldoz53@hexbear.net 9 points 5 months ago

why does a game that had a magical alien orb thing need to be "accurate"

[-] blobjim@hexbear.net 30 points 5 months ago

Ubisoft is kinda funny in that it's a French company with a bunch of studios including the famous Ubisoft Montreal in Canada. So sometimes they dgaf. In Watch Dogs 2 there's a level where you break into an FBI office to steal from them, and they're an enemy faction you can fight. I cannot imagine any American company making the literal FBI an enemy faction (the other factions are the police and gangs).

[-] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 24 points 5 months ago

AC4s DLC was quite literally one dude fighting against slavery. They could make this happen if they wanted to.

[-] Parzivus@hexbear.net 66 points 5 months ago

Idk if I trust videogame writing to do justice to the Reconstruction. I guess if you're just killing klansmen then sure whatever but I'm just imagining some Bioshock Infinite type shit

It is so funny how much chuds hate marvel slop given how much it caters to right wing politics.

it would be like their marx who's like "go kill these radicals who want to do political violence. All good communists like me only want to do peaceful reforms"

france-cool scared to insult an english speaking nation, lol

damn that sounds fucking awesome ,shame

The most hilarious thing about AC lore is that Lenin is good

[-] lil_tank@hexbear.net 16 points 5 months ago

I bet the narrative designers are trots

I think this is literally the coolest premise you could have for an AC game that could be published in America, or at least that you used to be able to but evidently not anymore if you're a big studio.

I'm trying to think of others. Apartheid South Africa could maybe be published, probably not Palestine for some time now. Maybe Ethiopia or Algeria. A Black Panther assassin would obviously be interesting but I think that would be too much. Probably the same goes for representing the IRA. Maybe the Mexican Revolution?

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 30 points 5 months ago

assassin's creed gameplay really stops working when repeating firearms are competent so there's a hard date limit on it and reconstruction is pushing up on that with revolvers and lever guns.

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 20 points 5 months ago

That's an interesting point, though honestly I don't think it's that different from Hitman or really even Arkham, fundamentally, not that you can't draw distinctions between them. I think guns would just be a design consideration and not a hard limit, plus they already have some stuff in WWI, don't they?

[-] plinky@hexbear.net 19 points 5 months ago

firearms are loud, so if they've embraced more hitman vibes (plan your shit, don't fight 50 guards) with climbing into hotels and stuff, it could still sort of work. basically introduce thief mechanics with stealth, only with wall climbing and garottes.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 12 points 5 months ago

they already massively changed gameplay once, i guess they could do it a second time if they think they've exhausted history

[-] Coolkidbozzy@hexbear.net 14 points 5 months ago

it would be absolutely hilarious to make an AC game that climaxed with killing JFK and getting away with it

[-] Keld@hexbear.net 10 points 5 months ago

Why didnt Lee Harvey Oswald use his wrist blades?

[-] ryepunk@hexbear.net 8 points 5 months ago

No bales of hay to jump into.

[-] XiaCobolt@hexbear.net 14 points 5 months ago

I'd like a return to middle ages and early modern with the Hussite Rebellion or German Peasants War

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 8 points 5 months ago

You are right, I was being too small-minded. I think the Ikko-Ikki uprising could also be cool, though it presents too much opportunity to lib out, and also they just did Japan.

They finally listened to the G*mers who voted with their wallet and this time they want to play as the KKK 😤

[-] segfault11@hexbear.net 10 points 5 months ago

just to troll people they should make one where you play as a KKK guy but it's absurdly difficult and literally impossible to progress after the tutorial area. they wouldn't even need to make the full game, just like 1 hour or so of content

[-] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 30 points 5 months ago

We gotta oppress G*mers gamer-gulag

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 24 points 5 months ago

Good news is that this means someone else can steal the idea and run with it

Just replace Assassin's and Templars with other shit

Hell, you don't even need a reason, just Django it up

[-] godlessworm@hexbear.net 23 points 5 months ago

that sounds awesome. someone else should make this

I hope the saudis buy ubisoft too

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 16 points 5 months ago

i don't believe them

[-] Blep@hexbear.net 12 points 5 months ago

Theyve already made one of those. One of the side games has you play a mixed girl who was born a slave girl. I remember

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 21 points 5 months ago

Assassin's Creed: Liberation. It had a cool mechanic where different clothing helped you blend into different social spaces, but the game was kinda mid.

There was also Assassin's Creed; Freedom Cry, where the first mate from Black Flag sails the Caribbean freeing slaves. It wasn't even really an expansion, just a mini game.

[-] CupcakeOfSpice@hexbear.net 14 points 5 months ago

There was one with an indigenous assassin (I think, I didn't play much of that one) and Black Flag had a black slave that you free join you and go on to became a famous and influential assassin.

[-] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Very underrated period. The new south was the peak of black Americas political power. With land redistribution swirling around in the minds of people, Liberia, Kansas or Haiti as new homeland for black americans, and poor white-freed black local rule being beset by the KLK
