...I'm like 90% sure my grandmother had a fentanyl patch to deal with the pain of her cancer. Guess doctors just hand out weapons of mass destruction... Interesting.

[-] JustSo@hexbear.net 39 points 1 month ago

yeah before my friend died from neglect (thanks america, let a thousand luigis boom) he was on so much fent, he had fentanyl lollypops and patches and shit.

that was before it became so widely distributed on the black market. the best way to combat fent would be to let the heroin market rip again IMO.

[-] The_hypnic_jerk@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago

heroin market

Send the troops back to Afghanistan, there's another type of tar we're after this time

ay pass that shit homie

edit: inb4 its a pic from the anthrax scare. I'll still take it.

[-] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I believe that this is Rubio photoshopped (or maybe AI generated) to look like the famous photo of Powell lying to the UNSC about WMDs in Iraq.

Ohhh yellowcake I guess. lmao. Americans.

[-] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Might have been chemical weapons, on account of the fact that the Americans knew the Iraqi government had those at some point (don't ask how they got them or where they came from, lmao). I don't remember the exact propaganda, lol.

All I can think, other than the obvious Venezuela implications, is when fentanyl became widespread up here it was all about how china was selling the precursors.

This will be used for more than just right now

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 45 points 1 month ago

The war on drugs is used for everything except actually stopping issues related to drug addiction.

[-] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago

Much like every action this country takes, all I can think is how it will be used as a cudgel against outgroups

[-] JustSo@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

Yeah and the labs doing the synthesis were all in mexico (eyeroll)

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 42 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

there's this old quote in hegel... i know it's in marx, i think it's in hegel too... "once as tragedy, once as farce" fool-me-once

[-] facow@hexbear.net 37 points 1 month ago

Tragedy me once shame on you. Farce me twice, can't get farced again

[-] microfiche@hexbear.net 41 points 1 month ago

fent is a big issue. It kills those who seek it out intentionally, and those not seeking it out because it's now cheaper to cut everything by with fent instead of the real fucking thing.

but all this is going to do is affect the poor, those with habits to feed daily, kids selling dime bags on the corner, and anyone who gets caught with fent and isn't white.

and it'll probably allow him to continue killing Latin Americans in boats.

I'm too stupid to think much further than that.

[-] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 46 points 1 month ago

and it'll probably allow him to continue killing Latin Americans in boats.

This is why he's doing this, I think, despite the fact that the fent isn't coming from LatAm.

[-] unaware@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

Didn't he say it was coming from China just a few months ago?

[-] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago

That's always been the line, but recently I believe he claimed it was coming from Venezuela.

[-] hotcouchguy@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago

It's actually a complex global supply chain involving every official enemy and nobody else.

[-] StarkWolf@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago

This will likely be used as the basis to go beyond just attacking random boats, grounds for escalation, acts of war

I thought the whole thing about fentanyl being super-lethal was made up by cops?

[-] microfiche@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

I'm more talking about folks getting bags of something cut w fent, then being injected or snorted and dying. Or fake pills pressed w fent, that sorta stuff. The whole 'touch three grains of fent and drop dead instantly" is horseshit, tho.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

The thing cops made up is that breathing in or touching fentanyl will kill you.

That said, it's still a very strong opioid, and very cheap. This leads to overdoses when dealers cut their product with it and lie about what it actually is, as well as when users take a similar amount of fentanyl that they would to other opioids not realizing that it's much stronger.

[-] Krem@hexbear.net 40 points 1 month ago

Not a weapon: weapons (everything from guns to cruise missiles)

The most dangerous weapon: a painkiller

[-] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago

Oh this is what they meant by Lethal aid

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 38 points 1 month ago

I've consulted my chud cousin on this very subject over thanksgiving last year and this only applies to foreign produced fentanyl not domestic

Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
