I mean... he's not wrong...
Oh no I am become boomer

Agree. I don't want to live in the world where a smart phone is required to order a succulent Chinese meal.
GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY PENIS
:( no fun
We are all boomers on this day.
Nono, you're simply one of Today's No-Good Teens, and scanning a "Q.R." would interrupt your "Tik Tok" time
*latest fad
This one's actually totally accurate. I fucking hate those codes, they always link to a wonky ass, terribly designed webpage. I try and scroll to the fucking beer menu and then it throws me to the desert page or something. Just print a menu Jesus!
Or it just goes to a page that can't be zoomed in on. Or a image that is so tiny you can't read even when zoomed in
His labels are so good "traditional meal orderers" is one of the best I've seen.
Also, note "today's no-good teens" also not wanting to use the QR code, this is Kelly saying this is intergenerational, thus you are not a boomer for agreeing, you could be a no-good teen
And the vapor from the vape actually spelling out "vape"
I must be becoming a Kelly style boomer because my phone won't even scan those god damned codes and I just want a menu.
Most places I can eventually manage to get a paper menu but sometimes I have to rely on the people I'm dining with to even order coffee.
i do fucking hate when places do this
I fucking hate those QR codes.
Don't scan them! They could be a security issue and they usually just lead you to their website anyway, just search for their website and menu manually if you can't get a physical menu.
I'm waiting for people to make fake QR codes that go to some malicious page, paste them over the real ones. Seems a lot easier to do than skimmers.
Forget malware, just bring back the good old days of tub girl, goatse, and lemon party!
imagining a server trying to explain away some whacked-out tagline for a table of diners
Me when I burn my olive oil
Heh heh heh
Bold of you to assume I haven't already memorized the menu several days prior to going to the restaurant because my anxiety demands I don't think in public
Autism gang checking in. I haven't read a menu in a restaurant since 1992!
The first time this happened to me I knew what I wanted to order without the menu, and they still tried to make me QR code it. I think that place has since reformed but I only do takeout from them now.
I'm trying to scan the QR code but nothing happens
missed opportunity not having it link to Kelly merch or something
My whole ass life it was rude to have your phone go off during a meal. Not because of the interruption (well, kinda), but because you’re snubbing the people you’re with to engage with someone who’s not even there. That’s what the silent switch is for. I still warn people if I’m expecting a call or text during a meal or meeting, not because they’ll hear it, but because I don’t want them to think I don’t respect or enjoy their time because I’m paying attention to someone else during the meal we specifically planned.
Now somehow I’m the jerk for asking for a paper menu.
The part of the boomer mentality we're all rightly scared of is becoming reflexively resistant to change, even good change. Disliking a change for specific reasons isn't that.
QR code menus suck because it gets everyone at the table immediately on their phones when you're supposed to be interacting with each other.
Is this a thing? I have literally never seen this.
When places reopened after the first wave of the pandemic they tried to brute force it into existence. It's faded a bit since then but I still come across it now and then. So not quite (*latest fad), but fad enough.
There are also museums that replaced the about-this-painting placards with QR codes.
There are also museums that replaced the about-this-painting placards with QR codes.
Why? I don't get it. That sounds like such a terrible experience, constantly having to scan a code just to read a fucking description.
It do be annoying, fiddling with your phone at every interesting painting, and descriptions are sometimes shorter than before. (Although audio options are pretty poggers when they go in-depth, but its rare)
Those little audio doohickeys that some museums have are my favorite objects in the world. Museums used to have them on cassette and sometimes they'd let me copy them. As a kid I used to have a cassette for San Antonio's science museum and I'd listen to the dinosaur parts repeatedly.
Yeah, the annoying part with audioguides they are incomprehensible alphanumeric gibberish on a server (sometimes), not structured folder type deal, so you cant backtrack to them from home :(
They claim it's also to replace the headsets for audio explanations, etc., but either way it's bullshit. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/newsletter/2022-01-22/essential-arts-qr-codes-in-museums-blessing-and-curse-essential-arts
Why not have a written description, and then a QR code next to it that leads to more in-depth information?
No text! Only QR code!
So much that the city of Rio de Janeiro had to pass a law mandating bars an restaurants to have physical menus for clients that ask for them.
I've only encountered it a couple times but yeah, I think it got more popular when Covid started.
BEEP!
BOOP!
making optional QR code menus is a good idea tho
I agree. However the back end is always so poorly done it makes it shite in practice.
I've never had to scan a QR code for a menu, but I'm pretty sure this would be the path to bring out my inner-boomer.
Never seen Star Wars
Never scanned a QR code in my life
I might be the most secluded person on this website
Queue for rations?! Not this heart diseased American!
Does the QR code in the comic mean anything intelligible? I can't get it to scan
The timing is not valid and the two encoding bytes aren't the same. So that's probably why you can't get it to scan. Plus the mask is all off because there is a big blob on the lower right corner. With a lot of effort you could probably read something which probably would be random bytes
