Someone else watched this movie? It's fucking incredible.

I could go on for hours about every single perfect fucked up thing in this movie, but I'll stick to just one: I love how he blasts his way through like three different 'lieutenant' type enemies, that in any other film would be showing up repeatedly, chasing him down in a cat-and-mouse game until the one final decisive battle just before the showdown with the main villain, but no - they're introduced, they fight, he kills them, they're forgotten about and the next one is lined up. He's simply an unstoppable, almost elemental force that never faces a single challenge or setback.

The fact they activate the zoomer beekeeper so early is hilarious

The Steven Seagal effect

that part was kind of disappointing for me. like the current beekeeper who they build up like ooooohh she's so freakin psycho the government can't even control her and the only thing that can beat a beekeeper is another beekeeper because they're the specialest of special ops and then she just shows up and dies in 5 minutes. felt like a seriously wasted opportunity to have some real tension to the fights.

That is Kurt Wimmer for you. I was disappointed in the lack of gun fu

The best description I've heard that really absolutely nails it: "Its an absolute 5 star 2 star banger of a movie."

Kinda in the same vein as Commando with Schwarzenegger. Insanely unbelievably stupid movie and so goddamn better for it.

Been meaning to check that one out, we should watch it on hextube for slop night now that it's Dirt Owl approved

I will warn you that it follows all the angry white old man action movie tropes (Ala Taken)

But it does it in such a hamfisted way it borderlines parody and made me laugh.

That is the best description for it. Hamfisted chuddery to a level that could only be hilarious and entertaining.

i really thought he would be using more beekeeping-based attacks. like he'd be throwing bees at people or using the smoker more.

This looks like a screenshot of the latest Siege operator

Even the jar of honey was used in a anti-climatic way, I expected him to save it to use in the final battle or something

[-] nothx@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

This movie is exactly what I expected it to be and I would pirate it again for sure. Perfect mindless action movie to get toasted and eat an entire bag of Doritos while watching.

I'm not a big action movie dude but he also was in both Crank movies, which are ridiculous, high-energy action comedies that I enjoyed immensely.

Also loved the Beekeeper. Since Statham was defending Phylicia Rashad's honor as the driving force throughout the movie, maybe he can hunt down Bill Cosby in Beekeeper 2? timmy-pray

chapo talks about The Beekeeper for most of this episode

Statham does the best tongue in cheek action movies. He plays it straight, but isn't afraid to take really silly premises and make them amazing

It’s just so unapologetic about what it is. Really a throwback to early 00s hot-couch action movies.

looks pretty good, recommend?

[-] Wertheimer@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

Not really - the main relationship is kinda gross and it seems like there are better Angelopoulos films out there. I just watched Eternity and a Day and it's a far superior treatment of similar themes.

[-] D61@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

This is on my "garbage movie to watch list". Choices as to what its going to be about before I watch it.

Statham is a dude who controls bees, or a dude who can shoot bees out of his mouth, or or a dude made up entirely of bees wearing a Jason Statham suit.

I couldn't find this post and was worried that there was something horribly wrong with the Beekeeper movie and you deleted the post. Downloading now.
