Image is of Donald Trump Jr. in Greenland, proudly demonstrating what he's learned in his standing lessons.

The imperial core is continuing the process of self-cannibalization as the interimperial wars between Europe and the US over resource and territorial control continue. Greenland, populated with less than a hundred thousand heavily exploited people, is the newest territory to fall under Trump's gaze. The main draw is the mineral resources present there, of which it boasts nickel, copper, cobalt, and platinum, and much more than remains unexplored under the ice. But the ice is melting, and profit must be made. There is an additional element of wanting Arctic territory to counter Chinese and especially Russian interests and aims; Russia is increasingly eyeing the northern Arctic route as an alternative to more vulnerable routes through the Suez Canal or around Africa, and is investing heavily in icebreakers for that purpose.

However, even if Europe possessed the desire to resist American annexations - and they absolutely do not, at the end of the day - they do not even have the ability. Denmark may, to a lesser or greater extent, make angry sounds and talk about national honour or some such, but their military would be trampled underfoot by even the New York Police Department, let alone a concerted military effort by the US. If Trump wants Greenland, he will have it. This will naturally increase the grumbling in Europe about reconsidering the Transatlantic alliance, and that grumbling may, in the medium-term future, as the American Empire continues its decline, lead to meaningful results. But in the short term, Europe shall have to bear whatever Trump throws at them, for they obviously cannot now ally with Russia, who was the natural counterweight to American interests for decades before 2022.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. Blue MAGA trying to cope give Biden credit like didn't circumvent congress to send weapons for this genocide. How many issues has he circumvented congress on? Just demonic

[-] vegeta1@hexbear.net 22 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Blue MAGA wishing for gaza to be razed even more and them wishing arab americans to be expelled because they didn't cosign this genocide only for this news to happen which was a bare minimum.....is an unfathomably bad look even if its very temporary

[-] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 15 points 3 hours ago

One particularly common line that I've seen is that 'Trump and Netanyahu have been illegally in contact just to make Biden look bad'. It's taking the pathetic nature of Biden's administration and just running with it.

[-] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 29 points 7 hours ago

I just found something spooky

The vote difference between Trump and Harris is almost exactly the same amount as the pre-genocide population of Gaza, 2.2 million votes/people

So, what is up with BadEmpanada? Seems like some neoliberal polandball youtuber got angry at him, and BadEmpanada fans trolled the guy so hard, he thinks BadEmpanada owns 200 different twitter accounts.

BE is basically just a Breadtube guy who also really loves arguing on Twitter. Gets banned a lot for being a little too illegal-to-say

this is an extreme understantment of bad empandas enemy here lol, from my understanding kraut is a "former" nazi who still takes great pleasure in being racist towards russians (and maybe palestinians?). the quality of his videos is even worse than you might suspect, Fredda (norwegian marxist ytber, videos are generally good but he's got a bad trot streak in him imo that seeps thru a bit, especially on twitter) is making a huge take down vid on kraut, and iirc bad empanada has a few vids dunking on kraut as well. afaik what is currently happening is kraut is accusing BE of doxing people, and then BE is saying that these people are just insane stalkers of his (and that apparently they have doxxed him in the past so he is doxxing them in return lmao). the only serious accusation ive heard against BE is that he doxxed bay area, but the evidence for that incident is pretty poor and a lot of which rests upon much hated grad/hexbear user makan/pluto so i dont put much weight on that accusation lol

[-] combat_brandonism@hexbear.net 12 points 4 hours ago

wait lol is one of our.notrious CPUSA debatebro shills leaking into streamer drama. please tell me I read that right

[-] combat_doomerism@hexbear.net 10 points 4 hours ago

i dont actually know if bay area has been brought up, this was just my take on the situation, was basically saying i dont really care if BE doxxed some right wing freaks lol. if the bay area doxxing was brought up or is brought up in the future i can almost guarantee makan is involved, he's the only person ive ever seen accuse BE of being the one to dox bay area lol (for context, literally anyone could have doxxed bay area, the man had a reddit account with the exact same name that iirc mentioned both his job location and maybe even a hint towards his real name despite all the effort he went on with the costume and voice changer lmao)

p.s.
(also p.s. first time ive interacted with someone else who has that's a reference to combat liberalism lol

Today’s news from occupied Palestine and Syria.

Social media users react to ceasefire with mix of relief, joy: https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2025/01/15/740983/Gaza-won-Netizens-react-Hamas-Israel-ceasefire-genocide

The fascist and genocidal Tel Aviv massacred another 62 Palestinian civilians today, as the ceasefire negotiations continued: https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2025/01/15/740980/Israel-Kills-62-Palestinians-despite-ceasefire-deal

Zionist aircraft have now intentionally attacked the “HTS” in Syria for the first time, killing two members in Quneitra province. I wonder how these new rulers in Damascus will respond to this blatant aggression. One frustrating aspect of the previous Syrian government is that they did not shoot back after these kinds of thuggish Zionist attacks: https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2025/01/15/740976/Syria-Israel-HTS-airstrike-Quneitra-Assad

[-] Cunigulus@hexbear.net 18 points 6 hours ago

A major provocation in Syria is necessary for the next step of the Zionists plans. The Gaza ceasefire is not the end of this conflict.

[-] Lemister@hexbear.net 8 points 3 hours ago

They will focus on colonizing the fertile south of Syria. Gaza can wait - for now.

I'm skeptical of the durability of this cease-fire, and this will certainly be temporary for as long as the Entity exists it will never be able to cease the settler-colonial genocide, however I truly hope this is a moment of happiness and reprieve for the indomitable people of Palestine. Glory to the resistance.

[-] SexMachineStalin@hexbear.net 6 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 55 minutes ago)

There's already efforts by piSSrael to sabotage this so-called ceasefire too. Satan also stated he does not wish to uphold Phase 2 and is stalling this current one too. A rocket already landed in an empty lot in the southern area of piSSraeli occupied zone. The images of the casing with the American/British/German serial identification will not be made available.

A brief reminder that the ICJ also gave piSSrael until the 28th of July to provide "counterarguments" against South Africa's case. In reality, it's to allow the killing of another 50,000 at bare minimum and the "hope" that South Africa abandons the case. However, South Africa has put the ICJ's balls into a bench vise and has woved to fight until the bitter end.

Over 64,000 are confirmed to have been killed from direct attacks alone, with the homicide rate at 2,600/100,000. This is in an area only marginally larger than Johannesburg's Inner City with 1/3rd the population.

Also some Boer KKKracker in Cape Town called me a settler-colonialist for being from and living in Berea/Hillbrow for over 20 years because the neighbourhood was no longer segregated since 31 years ago.

whats happening here?

[-] Dolores@hexbear.net 34 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

sorry if this has been covered previously but what did the removal of Cuba from the 'state sponsor or terrorism' list actually do? afaik that designation post-dates the blockade so why would that semantic change do anything?

[-] Beetle@hexbear.net 13 points 6 hours ago

It was (almost) impossible to send any money to Cuba which might change now. Donating for disaster relief was really difficult and not always possible for example.

[-] mkultrawide@hexbear.net 26 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

State Sponsor of Terrorism classification essentially causes a financial embargo. It adds on a ton of additional reporting requirements and potential penalties that banks don't want to deal with, so they will not do business with anyone remotely related to Cuba and freeze their funds.

Bolivian Police Clash with Protesters Demanding Arce’s Resignation Amidst Growing Social Unrest - Telesur English

Article

Tensions escalated in La Paz on Monday as police clashed with a large group of protesters aligned with former President Evo Morales. The demonstration, dubbed the “March for Life,” began in the morning in Achica Arriba, before making its way through El Alto and eventually reaching the city center of La Paz, with the intent of reaching Plaza Murillo.

The confrontation highlights the growing political polarization and social unrest in Bolivia, fueled by discontent with the current government’s economic and social policies. Around 4 PM local time, the situation turned violent as protesters allegedly began throwing high-powered firecrackers and stones at police officers near the intersections of Mercado and Ayacucho streets.

The police responded with tear gas, dispersing the demonstrators into surrounding streets. Gunther Agudo, the La Paz Departmental Police Commander, stated that police intervention was necessary due to the “aggressive” nature of the protest, claiming that objects were thrown at officers. He added that police forces are maintaining their presence throughout the city center, especially around the Obelisk plaza, to prevent further incidents.

The protesters, who have vowed to maintain a vigil near Plaza Murillo until their demands are met, are calling for the resignation of President Luis Arce and a reversal of current economic and social policies. According to teleSUR correspondent Freddy Morales, the protesters believe Arce has betrayed the mandate of the people, and are demanding a shift towards more equitable and progressive policies.

This action underscores the deepening fracture within the ruling MAS party and the broader left, as Morales loyalists increasingly see Arce as departing from the socialist principles they advocate for. Former President Evo Morales has condemned the actions of the government and accused it of operating under a “fascist tyranny,” repressing the people through police violence.

He claimed on X that peasant leaders, “legitimately and democratically elected,” who attempted to reclaim their union headquarters in Cochabamba, were brutally attacked by the police. Morales accused the Arce administration of turning union headquarters into police barracks, claiming this as proof of repression of grassroots movements. Senator Leonardo Loza, among other Bolivian politicians, also denounced the violence against protesters and the threats against them, after they decided to remain in Plaza Murillo.

The events of Monday serve as a stark reminder of the volatile political climate in Bolivia, and the fragility of social progress when governments fail to address the genuine needs and grievances of their people. The deep fractures that exist within the MAS party and the broader left are symptomatic of a struggle for power, but more importantly it underscores the ongoing fight for a more equitable and democratic future. The deployment of police forces against protestors, a tactic reminiscent of right-wing authoritarian regimes, is particularly concerning.

The use of force against legitimate expressions of social dissent reveals the willingness of the Arce government to prioritize its own hold on power over the basic rights of assembly and protest. Such actions risk further destabilizing the country and fueling a cycle of violence. The situation highlights the necessity for genuine dialogue and a commitment to addressing the legitimate demands of the population, particularly in the rural areas and among marginalized groups, in order to create long-lasting social peace. The escalation of violence between social movements and the state underscores the urgency for a reevaluation of the government’s trajectory, moving towards a truly participatory process that puts the needs of the people first.

Are we pro-Arce or pro-Morales here on hexbear? Or just want them to stop it lol.

Some are pro morales because they think Arce is a lib, but most ppl are “hey guys cut it out”

[-] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 13 points 8 hours ago
[-] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 11 points 8 hours ago

Assuming you're in the "cut it out" camp? I've researched Bolivia more than most here, but I haven't seen many indicators that Arce is reversing many "socialist" policies or decisions made under Morales.

[-] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 13 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Assuming you're in the "cut it out" camp?

Yes.

I've researched Bolivia more than most here, but I haven't seen many indicators that Arce is reversing many "socialist" policies or decisions made under Morales.

No, the biggest thing I could think of is that Arce's goverment is closer with Lula's goverment than Evo, who nationalized the gas industry (at the time Brazil owned like 60% of it, Bolivia and Paraguay were pretty much puppet goverments of Argentina and Brazil inside the US Sphere of Influence). But Evo did that in an agreement with Lula da Silva, and I believe Bolivia did pay Brazil and grant them some special trade agreements.

Arce got hit hard because of the Covid-19 pandemic and other stuff. Meanwhile, Evo was attempting to become president again, but the Supreme Court said no. A lot of right-wing people hate Evo, and Evo thought Arce was going to help him regain his right to be president again (In Bolivia a person can only be president 2 times per life time). But Arce didn't. That made Evo angry and he decided to pressure the goverment and make some shitty accusations that Arce was working with the right-wing, Evo got so bad that even Milei said that Evo was right on attacking Arce, then Evo had to say he hates Milei (Milei wants the Bolivian goverment to collapse so he can get some cheap gas like it happened during Macri's goverment that supported the 2019 coup in Bolivia).

I think Evo has some correct criticisms about Arce not having done everything he could to fix the economy and also not having been more radical and combative against the right-wing and the reactionary elements within the army and goverment. But this division will only destroy any chance the left has in the next elections. Also, I do think the assassinations attempts against Evo are real, but Arce was unrelated to them, these are the work of far-right elements within the Army and Police.

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 6 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

My read on the situation, on top of everything you laid out, is that this conflict also shows the difficulties MAS is having with transitioning from being "the Evo party" to being "a structured socialist party that can handle leadership transitions".

Evo is/was a tremendous force for good in Bolivia and in the region, and he was a huge part of why MAS holds the place it holds in Bolivian politics today. But if the Bolivian left wants to have any staying power, they need to sort this conflict out before the right wing seizes the opportunity to reverse all gains of the past 20 years or so.

[-] Thorngraff_Ironbeard@hexbear.net 4 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Agreed. I don't know enough about either dude but if MAS can't change from one leader to another it's not good. Evo shouldn't be the only candidate for president if the party is alive and well.
