He's talking to this other chuddy coworker and they're talking about the American flag for some reason and all of a sudden he's just like "how many stars and how many stripes do you think you could take off of there before anybody starts to notice" and like oh my god holy shit it just killed me

It also doesn't specify the shades of red or blue, nor does it specify how the stripes are supposed to be arranged meaning this is also a code compliant flag

it would look better with only 5 stars and one really big red stripe

i bet you could take out the outermost ring of stars and expand the rest to fill the space and few people would notice there's only 32 of them. probably 4 stripes, at most. that's a little trickier because i think people will notice parity reversal easily, so the red lines need to still be where you expect, so you need to remove them in pairs. like this:

Looks better honestly.

Need to see other intermediate points until we arrive at 🇨🇱

honestly reducing the amount of noise on the flag improves the design somewhat

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 39 points 1 month ago

Probably quite a few, honestly, that's why it's such a bad design, nobody can draw a flag with 50 stars on it.

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 38 points 1 month ago

Oh my god lol he's talking about like posting a flag with 46 stars like "Tell me your favorite facts about this flag, gobbless"

Relevant story:

My car got towed one time so I walked to the tow yard late at night to get it. The guy in the portable I talked to had a big pre-1959 flag hung up behind him. I pointed it out and he just went "Huh?"

So you can lose at least two stars and nobody would notice.

[-] mendiCAN@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

you noticed!

do you always notice small things like that? considering it was late at night and your definitely had other things on your plate I'm impressed you noticed

American obsession with their flag is always just so hard for me to wrap my head around.

[-] stink@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 month ago

When I was in kindergarten I fucked up coloring the flag in and the art teacher pointed it out. I was like "well shit I can't erase crayon" so I kept drawing it how it was and then they put me in ESL classes soon after smh

[-] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 9 points 1 month ago

That is so fucking funny

[-] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

See, this is why the US flag fails one of many Flag Tests. A good flag should be something a child can draw. (Admittedly, you also can't expect a child to draw any flag perfectly.) See, this is why I like so many commie flags, the hammer and sickle symbol is a little tricky, but generally, a red flag with a relatively simple symbol on it is easy to draw at least recognizably, if not well.

I am here and definitely am afraid of people that have them everywhere. What a bunch of tools.

The answer is a combination of “more than you expected” and “less than I’d hoped”

[-] Egonallanon@feddit.uk 17 points 1 month ago

Also going the other way how many do you reckon you could add? I think you could get a decent number of stars on there at least.

[-] culpritus@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

13 stars and 50 stripes might actually look ok

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

Knock off a couple two or tree.
