There is a video of a cybertruck driving through around 1m of water in wade mode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lKAEHMvvxg

Cheap plastic panels fall off in two places seemingly without any impact, exposing the whole underbelly and electrical system in the rear to water. The body retains water hours later and the buttons to open the trunk no longer work with them progressively failing in the hours since.

"Overall guys, things do seem to be... fairly normal. I do hear some water sloshing around in there. I'm guessing it will, kind of, you know, get out of where it's at. Overall the front was pretty dry. The trunk was pretty dry."

How the fuck did this completely unimpressive, incredibly stupid dipshit get such a cult following they'll make a positive review video of their 80k vehicle having multiple failing systems after driving through a large puddle?

[-] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 23 points 7 months ago

I honestly think a Subaru would handle that better, Even though it's lower to the ground. Especially with a snorkel.

[-] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 22 points 7 months ago

Well yeah there's a reason they are one of the most prominent companies represented in rally racing.

Love my under powered Impreza that slams the bumper on the slightest of dips

the sad part is it might have survived relatively unscathed if he'd just gone slow (also if it wasn't fucking shaped like a brick), but that wouldn't match the fake image of an ubercar that can just power through anything without breaking a sweat. Fascist ass vehicle for a fascist-ass man.

I love my Tesla so much even though I drove it through the car wash in car wash mode and it broke it. It's so hard to design a vehicle that can resist water, and honestly why would anyone get their precious car wet in the first place? I can't think of a real world use case for getting your car wet so honestly you really can't blame the genius Tesla engineers for this.

[-] wopazoo@hexbear.net 44 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

If your car wasn't meant to get wet, why does it have a roof? Checkmate.

When he opened the door my eyes went right to the dash and that there's no speedometer no tachometer, no gauges whatsoever and it's so jarring. This car is a living nightmare.

[-] penitentkulak@hexbear.net 40 points 7 months ago

It's even your shifter, unless you get the optional add-on button shifter (that's located above your rearview mirror and has been falling off in the sun even with the two-sided tape Tesla service centers have provided as a "fix")

🤓 ~@MuskFanNTR~

Stop spreading fud. This is standard legal wording. It's completely normal for a car to not be able to survive a car wash. This didn't happen. Heh, source: trust me bro. #laterhaters #tesla @elonmusk #pleasefuckmywife

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 65 points 7 months ago

lmfao wasn't musk claiming to be working on "boat mode" or something equally stupid? And this fucking joke can't even go through a car wash without shorting like an iphone dropped in a pool?

You know what, actually I support this, every cybertruck owner should try to ford the nearest body of water immediately

[-] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 38 points 7 months ago

An iPhone dropped in a pool has a better chance of recovery at this point. Their waterproofing has improved.

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 19 points 7 months ago

Ah fair enough, I've paid 0 attention to iPhone development. The last one I had was an iPhone 4 that stopped working when I got it wet lol

[-] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 17 points 7 months ago

iPhone waterproofing is legit. If mine fell into a pool, I'd give it a solid 60-70% chance of being fine.

My awesome new meme car is so cool that washing it voids the warranty. I definitely don't regret this purchase.

[-] Adkml@hexbear.net 53 points 7 months ago

Wait you can't use fucking windshield wiper fluid?

What the fuck are you supposed to do if you window is dirty, slam on the breaks and hop out with a chamois?

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Wash it with pedestrian blood.

[-] Findom_DeLuise@hexbear.net 16 points 7 months ago

It says windshield treatment fluids, so that's stuff like RainX, which... Eh. If the stock wipers are absolute dogshit, then yeah, OK, whatever. Just sounds like some typical service warranty CYA.

[-] Adkml@hexbear.net 14 points 7 months ago

That makes more sense, just feels like there's an awful lot of wiggle room about what "treatment" means.

[-] Magician@hexbear.net 53 points 7 months ago

What kinda Gremlins shit is this lmao

[-] AutomatedPossum@hexbear.net 47 points 7 months ago

"Don't wash in direct sunlight " looks like a gremlin-vampire hybrid to me, you have to meet both vulnerabilities at the same time, but that also means it goes into beast mode and bursts into flames

[-] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 53 points 7 months ago

This is insane, this has to be fake. Right?

You can't even get these fuckin cars wet?

[-] ped_xing@hexbear.net 17 points 7 months ago

Can't charge them after midnight, either.

even if you turned on Car Wash Mode.

well it actually sounds like not even car wash mode will save you. which is very normal for vehicles, of course.

Teslas have garbage build quality, especially for the prices, with tons of panel gaps. I'm not shocked that when E ~ L ~ O ~ N tried hyping up a theoretically off-road capable truck, it'd turn out like this.

A deeply unserious car for for deeply unserious persons.

[-] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 33 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Read that as “car crash mode” and was like that explains a lot. These fuckers just keep on hitting the car crash mode button.

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 11 points 7 months ago

Accidentally hitting the self destruct button that Elon put in as a meme (that doesn't have a confirmation screen) while trying to change the volume (which is all touchscreen and has no tactile feedback) and dying in an inferno

[-] Ho_Chi_Chungus@hexbear.net 32 points 7 months ago

i would honest to god rather walk to work than take a fucking cybertruck. what the hell

[-] buh@hexbear.net 32 points 7 months ago

but if you put it in car wash mode but don't wash it, that also voids the warranty

[-] ThisMachinePostsHog@hexbear.net 30 points 7 months ago

Where the fuck is the speedometer and shit? Is it supposed to be on the guy's non-working screen, off to the right?

[-] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 32 points 7 months ago

unironically yes

almost everything you do is on that monitor

it has a rearview mirror to satisfy DOT rules but you cant see anything out of it and by that i mean literally nothing you just see the back seat of your cabin you need the screen for a rearview

[-] fox@hexbear.net 27 points 7 months ago

DOT rules just say you need a mirror but not that it has to point out the back of the car? Amazing.

[-] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 17 points 7 months ago

im almost certain thats what they are. like the rules for side mirrors cover the view angle and positioning and such, so for instance a drivers side mirror cannot be concave or convex it must be a flat mirror but passenger side does not (which is why it has the warning about objects appearing closer than they appear), but i dont think that it ever states they need to be unobstructed

this is frustrating for motorcyclists customizing their bikes because (at least this used to be the case) those little round mirrors people would put on the end of their handle bars to replace the bunny ear mirrors on their motorcycles are technically illegal. even though they often function better than the legal ones because they give a better rear view by their nature (and no good motorcyclist would ever merge lanes without turning a little and looking first anyways)

These things seem like such a curse, and inferior to a bog-standard normal car in every way.

[-] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 7 months ago

I feel like a century old Model-T would be a more reliable vehicle.

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 26 points 7 months ago

Washing the car in sunlight voids the warranty.

Washing the car under moonlight also voids the warranty, because moonlight is just reflection of sunlight.

Washing the car during a lunar eclipse also voids the warranty, as the stars are just distant suns.

Washing the car indoors at a carwash also voids the warranty, unless you turn on Car Wash mode.

Washing the car indoors in Car Wash mode may void the warranty, at our discretion. (Spoiler: we probably will)

[-] Esqplorer@lemmy.zip 19 points 7 months ago

Not washing the car? Believe it or not, voided warranty.

[-] whatup@hexbear.net 19 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Teslas are the gremlins of our generation.

[-] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 12 points 7 months ago

In Australia at least, I feel like that warranty voiding would be an easy win in court.

If musk made one of these in his garage it would have been a pretty normal self build. I can't believe this actually made it to production
