Nah man. Let him know this is the way. No always online. No microtransactions in EVERYTHING. We need to go back
I want game manuals back
Oh yeah, I'd devour those whenever I was waiting for my turn on the TV. Used to be helpful shit in there, too
I'd read them in the car on the way home from the local non chain video rental store. I was never allowed to rent mortal kombat though
Play Tunic!
The meaning of "retro" got frozen at the 2D/3D transition for quite a while, but it's long past time to move to a new definition: a console becomes retro when they sunset the online connectivity
"Retro" just means "it happened before I was old enough to enjoy it".
Just like "old" means "anyone older than me".
Maybe a more objective measure is "if it is older than people who are now adults, it's retro".
The Nintendo New 3DS in shambles.

Lost Planet 2 ruled, some of the most fun co-op and pvp in any shooter I've ever played
Introduce them to SSX3. I've been chasing that high ever since
I still emulate it on my phone today
Why did they stop giving us whole mountains with cool shortcuts and crazy parks that weren't too crazy?
I am the one and only enjoyer of the ssx reboot and I will defend that game until the end of days. Same goes for the dmc reboot
I looked forward to weekend at my Dad's because his roommate had an Atari 800.
So you can all shut the fuck up and kindly step off my lawn.
I Was Just Wondering If You Wanted to Hang Out With Me and Smoke Weed and Fill Our Bellies With Diet Soda and Play Burnout 3 for the Xbox 360
Okay, we're going to have to introduce better periodization for retro games.
Hm, feel like we need one more gen til the 360 is "retro/vintage", feels too recent still for those monikers.
Like for the Original Xbox it feels right, but 360's too new imo.
I'm aging into being torn about being old, but also being excited at the prospect of introducing "the youth" to cool old shit they don't know about.
"Sonny, I know you love your Forts Knights or whatever, but have you heard of Halo 2? This was before loot boxes you see..."
but also being excited at the prospect of introducing "the youth" to cool old shit they don't know about.
Try me.
Oh jeeze, the sudden pressure....
uh ... y'all ever hear about Bio-Booster Armor Guyver? Or the two live action adaptations, the first of which blows ass and false-advertises Mark Hamil (of liberalism fame) as the main character, and the second of which (The Guyver: Dark Hero) stars David Hayter (most famous for voicing Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series) as the protagonist "Sean" (the cracker-fication of "Sho Fukamachi").
The basic idea is that a guy gets implanted with an alien parasite that turns into bio-mechanical armor (the titular "Guyver"), but there's this evil corporation of shape-shifting mutants / aliens that also want it, so the plot basically turns into a mix of X-Files but also sometimes he turns into a fucking robot-alien man and explodes monsters with his titty-cannons.
EDIT: The first half of the older anime adaptation (by good ol' MANGA home video!) is available on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWiPz9C7tmq7-Rj2KR7M4EQDb-U0GqBMh
I'll accept THPS2 as somewhat retro
THUG is an OG Xbox title. It's like retro retro.
local Hexbear confounded by process of time moving forward, people referring to games that came out several years before they were born as "retro"
I remember playing Burnout Paradise as a wee'un and loving it, that was the only Burnout game I ever played. Burnout 3 came out a few years before Paradise and I never really heard about it so I guess it was "before my time".
Burnout 3 is probably the best burnout game, it's not open world like paradise, but everything else is better in my opinion. Though my opinion could be clouded by nostalgia.
Burnout Paradise, while a great game, doesn't even have Crash Mode, which was one of the best parts of the original Burnouts.
I played those games as a kid and I'm only in my mid 20s... Burnout 3 was the first proper console game I got, in a bundle with Need For Speed Underground 2 and a PlayStation 2 for Christmas.
I was a high schooler
I've seen people here say "my childhood Nintendo Switch" and it instantly made my back hurt.
I once read a comment that started with “I was born in 2003” and I immediately crumbled into dust
the first THUG game felt old during the 360's time, that shit is hard retro by now.
