We joke, but from what I can tell based on what vegan yt chefs say, there are people who never saute their veggies in oil before simmering them in the soup. My guess is "water based cooking" doesn't use oil. Also just looked it up and it seems like they avoid "dry cooking" (baking) or anything that browns food as a way to avoid carcinogens lenin-dont-laugh

Ok but many flavor compounds are fat soluble, and browning your food makes it taste better.

I'd rather die a couple years sooner and eat delicious food, than live forever being an asetic weirdo who's never tasted flavor before

You seem to know and care about this subject a lot.

Its the way people on this site can tell me about the nuances of "water based cooking" but redditors only say the same 6 things (and they're all evil) that tells me how deeply astroturfed that website is

sure you might eat a few less carcinogens if you don't sear or caramelize your food at all but is it worth the lack of flavor

wtf does "pov" even mean anymore?

[-] Krem@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago

94 out of 100 times you can replace it with "when"

Or just nothing at all.

This one is at least kinda close.

You've started your "water based cooking" and you're looking at the food being made. In 1st person view too, not even 3rd like most of the memes.

[-] prole@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago

This one makes sense tho? Your point of view if you're making soup would be looking down at the soup.

[-] Owl@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

Not really? This is like "pov you're making soup" but the caption is a bunch of abstract lifestyle things. This person isn't spending all their time staring at soup, they're doing other things while also apparently having clear skin and whatever. It'd be just as true of a caption on a picture from the viewpoint of someone sitting on the toilet. It's meaningless.

viewpoint of someone sitting on the toilet.

Um, excuse me sweaty, but I believe you mean someone making water-based sewage.

pov: mfw when words lose meaning

pov: mfw the simulacrum has no relationship to any reality whatsoever and signs merely reflect other signs and any claim to reality on the part of images or signs is only of the order of other such claims.

I love soup. As I've gotten older, I've realized that a lot of the foods I "disliked" came down to texture rather than taste (yay sensory issues). Chop them up and put them in a rich vegetable broth and I'll happily eat them.

and it's so easy too and cheap too; it's hard to fuck it up and it's been my "gateway drug" to veganism and directly responsible for my weight loss and improving health metrics.

if could figure out defeat the cravings that come from my burgerstani upbringing; all of my health problems would ago away.

I’m not a big fan of eating raw veggies so I literally just blend them to make shakes, think I might just make em into a soup to make it quick and essy to eat

[-] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

You can use a blender to make veggie soup if your blender is powerful enough. A secret technique.

I think "water based cooking" means boiling and steaming. It's not talking about soup. It doesn't say "water based recipes". It's saying that cooking things is water is healthier than cooking in oil.
